Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is the new PSP iteration of the popular franchise. Here's what we know (thanks to OPM):

It takes place 3 years before GTA3, and you play as Tony Capriani (the guy with the overbearing Mom who gave you missions in GTA 3). He will again be voiced by Michael Madsen.

It's 3D and free roaming. Infact, more of Liberty is accessible in this game.

Anything you could do in GTA 3, you can do here. The cars are the same, plus all the motorcycles from VC are here.

Missions, graphics and game length will be on par with Vice City.

Expect to see some familar faces (rumors on Gamefaqs say an aged Tommy Vercetti is the big bad of the game, but I don't believe much that they say).

I'm pretty excited about this game, Rockstar has had it 2 years in the making. I hope it'll make up for PSp's lack of a good game library thus far.

Release will coincide with the European PSP launch. Should you get a PSP for this? It's up to you, you probably should if you don't have an Ipod already (it's a hundred dollars cheaper, plus it plays video files, movies, and games.) If you do, it's a harder decision.

In other news, Circuit City will have the GTA3/VC Double Pack for $9.99 on July 3rd. Great news for those who don't own the games.

Does this mean that Circuit City is having another $4.99 video game sale a la last year? If so, it looks like I may be doing some Circuit City runs this weekend (as a way to not only find some good games for cheap, but also to find some games that I can sell on eBay to get ready for Otakon).

I just wonder how much of this will be a drain on the PSP's battery. Maybe it'll come with an extension.

They are having a $9.99 game sale this time around and it starts on July 3rd. Some of the more note worthy titles included are WWE Day of Reckonining, Project: Snowblind, Rumble Roses, Ridge Racer DS, and Baten Kaitos.

Expect to see some familar faces (rumors on Gamefaqs say an aged Tommy Vercetti is the big bad of the game, but I don't believe much that they say). God I hope not. Not only is there no good reason for Tommy to leave Vice City, but I really don't want to have to kill the guy. :D

All that is very good news though. I was scared we'd see a serious downgrade from the PS2 games, probably some hybrid of the 3D free-roaming games and the 2D GTA 1&2, which I didn't like. From what I read there, it seems to be GTA 3.5, missing only the planes and choppers (and boats?) from VC and SA. As long as there's either no water or you can swim I'll be happy. There was nothing worse in Vice City than screwing up and finding yourself at the bottom of the ocean.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never really had the battery problems people were making a fuss about before the PSP came out. I usually get a good 5-6 hours before it gets low, 7-10 if I'm only doing music. And that's with the fact thay I leave it on standby 90% of the time.

Here's a list of the games onsale:

KoF Maxium Impact and Baten Kaitos are worth a trip down to my local CC.

Ugh...I really never liked Tony Cipriani. It kind of pissed me off that you never got to kill him in Grand Theft Auto III. Most of the games seem to set up the mafia as bad guys though so it's kind of surprising that you'd spend the whole game playing as someone in the mafia.

I'm not buying a PSP only for GTALCS, all other portable video games suck.
