Around the time that Smallville was in talks, I had heard a rumor that WB was also going to do a show about young Bruce Wayne, before he became Batman (?--I might be getting this wrong, so feel free to correct me) or when he was first starting out as Batman, and focus on his adventures that led him to become Batman, and the training he underwent to become the caped crusader. After reading up on Smallville, I think this might have been a better series. Are they still talking about it?

My understanding is that there was a bit of conflict between the production teams that wanted to start up the Bruce Wayne series and the Year One movie. Something along the lines that the BW show would lead into the movie but the movie wanted to briefly touch on the pre-Batman aspect of Bruce and move on. Given the time required to build up the show to lead into the movie (three to four seasons) with the possibility that the show might flop, then you're back where you started. Or what if the show was a hit, it goes on for five or more seasons and the movie (and the franchise along with it) gets pushed back even farther. So Young BW gets scrapped so Year1 can get made with the hopes of rebooting the movie franchise and bringing the WB $$$$$.

I hope I made an ounce of sense in there. :D

I would have watched that show. You know, though, I begin to wonder why there hasn't been more of an effort to put a live-action Batman back on TV in some form. Obviously they can do it, as seen in the OnStar commercials. And I have to think it would be less expensive to produce than a live-action Superman show, of which there will now have been three (Superboy, Lois and Clark, and Smallville) since the last attempt at Batman.

I think a live action Batman series has more chance of surviving than a lot of other superhero shows that might come along. What was that one on TNT? Dark Man, or whatever? Batman could be done so much better, as pointed out by his appearance on the commercials. I think WB really dropped the ball when they opted to pick up the dismal sounding Smallville and shelved the new live action Batman series. The live action Batman series could have fit in rather well in Buffy's now vacant slot on Tuesday night.

Man, it's been about 40 years since we've seen Batman on TV! What is up with that?

I would have much liked to have the Bruce Wayne then Smallville. Except, if you think about it, The WB would probably be doing the same thing they are doing to Smallville as they would, Bruce Wayne. Let's hope not. I'd rather if the Bruce Wayne series ever gets picked up, that it will not air on The WB. Hopefully, one of the bigger broadcast nets would pick it up instead. The plot sounded alot more interesting then Smallville and I was very intrigued about it. With Batman: Year One most likely won't be made for a couple of years, Bruce Wayne might not see the light of day for a long time. Then again, IF Smallville does well, The WB might want to make a night of DC characters and have Smallville move to 8 and air Bruce Wayne following it.

That makes sense, although it's obviously unfair to the enlightened who are known as "Batman fans". When the parents get right down to it, they can sometimes think that Superman will attract a larger audience because it's less.....well less Batman. For example, my Aunt and mother were discussing the two and what to get him started on when he was like 4 or so and they thought it best to start with Superman, then go to Batman once he got older.

Yes it was a few years ago... and it was stinky. You missed nothing, saw nothing, came out better. It lasted one season and then died a particularly thankful death.
