View Full Version : Cut Scenes That Everyone Saw?

I refrain from putting this in the DVD forum, given that it could also go to magazine ads or VHS cases, but...
What scenes have been advertised for a film, but were cut?
I know that a Buffy The Vampire Slayer scene, with Seth Green as a vampire, was on the VHS box, but was cut from the film. Likewise, a scene from Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, had Kat using a flamethrower on the box, which never happened in the movie.

A clip of a fight with Michael Jai White was included in the Kill Bill Volume 2 teaser trailer, but cut from the film.
If I remember correctly, The Faculty's trailers featured a ton of scenes that were actually scrapped from the theatrical version.
The Dawn of the Dead '78 DVD featured promotional stills on the box that weren't actually scenes from the film.

I don't think promotional stills count... because... well, they're promotional. They don't have to be from the movie.

I don't think promotional stills count... because... well, they're promotional. They don't have to be from the movie. Well, trailers are promotional too. Someone may look at a video/DVD box and say, "Hey, that wasn't in the movie!" the same way they would if they saw a trailer with a cut scene.

Loads of stuff from Terminator 2 (although most of it made it back in when Jim Cameron did the SE laserdisc).

There were 2 scenes in the ROTS trailer which were never meant to be in the film- a suprised Ki-Adi-Mundi with his lightsaber and a lone hooded Anakin striding through a corridor on The Invisible Hand. The two scenes were cut from the film, but placed on different background plates and used in the trailer.

I remember the Batman Forever trailer had a few one-liners that (thankfully) never made it into the final cut, and also showed a pretty cool shot of Bruce opening his arms to match the giant bat creature.
More one liners from Batman and Robin (yes, there were more)
A shot from the Attack of the Clones trailer where Obi-Wan chides Anakin before entering the Outlander club.
Anyone remember the movie "Paulie"? About the bird? Helf of the jokes from the trailer didn't make it into the movie. I never really understood that.

Concerning more recent movies, how about The Longest Yard? The one big man child in the trailers said "I hate you daddy." and then it cuts to a scene of Chris Rock saying "I hate you too!" I never saw a scene with either line in the movie. I didn't think they were part of the same scene, I thought that like a lot of promos, two unrelated lines were combined to make a sketch to grab attention. I was curious to see in what context the two lines were used, but they never showed up.

Wait, why would Seth Green's character in Buffy be a vampire? Was that cut scene included on the DVD?
Anyway, promotional trailers so often contain scenes and audio that aren't in the movie that it would be insane to try to list them all. One of the most memorable for me is the trailer for Deuce Bigalo:Male Gigolo in which he says "I'm Deuce Bigalo, I will be your gigalo for the evening." In the movie he actually said "I am Deuce Bigalo, I will be your man whore for this evening." But, I guess they can't say man whore on TV or something...

In Lara Croft Tomb Raider, lots of commercials showed a part where she was on top of the villain and said "This is where I start to have fun". Not in the actual movie, nor the DVD deleted scenes (assuming because it's way too short to count as a typical deleted scene).

The trailer for Hocus Pocus had a scene with the witch sisters in a "quickie mart" of sorts and the "big one" was squirting something into her mouth. I never saw such a thing in the actual movie.
In the Directors cut, on DVD, there is a really short scene where the family if Nute, comes upon the alien ship, with the eggs, that shouldn't have been cut, also, from the same version, you see Ripley thinking about all she has lost, in a background of green, like the holigram..that should have stayed in...Cameron es, Gale Anne Hurd, the prodcuer explains it was a time factor, they couldn't make it too long, for continuous showings, because multiplexes had just been introduced and the film, was being shown on a lot of single screen theaters, shorter films, means more times played, means more moeny was the idea, orders from the studio she said...Stuart

In Star Wars: A New Hope, there was a scene on Tantooine where Luke talks to Biggs. It was cut from the film, but it was included in a late '70s Star Wars children's book.

Dude, I just posted that. Seriously.
I think I recall a scene in a Clockstoppers trailer where the main two characters are talking in hypertime, but the background didn't look like it showed up in the movie. Plus the movie didn't refresh my memory of the short dialogue in that scene, so I think it was cut.

Due to a set of odd coincidences, I read the pre-release book of Star Wars. (what we now call a "New Hope", 3 days before the picture was released in the theaters..I do recall that scene in the book where Luke talks to Biggs on Tantooine...It was cut from later editions, I suppose to make the book line up with the film. (although I do not know that for a fact, since I never read any later editions) Stuart

Because the movie was well before he was cast as Oz on the show. I think Seth may have been the only actor to be in both the movie and the TV series (the only actor that matters, anyway).

Same with Happy Gilmore. In the trailer (and I think network airings) when he's fighting Bob Barker, he says "The price is wrong, Bob" when his actual line was "The price is wrong, b****"
Wasn't there a Spider-Man trailer where he webs up a helicopter or something in the Twin Towers? That was removed for obvious reasons.

well, some of the Batman Beyond:ROTJ spots featured stuff that ended up being cut, but were again there for the PG-13 cut

I think that was a teaser trailer which was never intended to appear in the film. It's along the lines of the teaser trailer for Godzilla- it's a rainy day in New York and at a museum a bunch of kids are receiving a dull lecture about the t-rex and how it was the mightiest lizard to ever walk the Earth. All the while, the ground seems to be shaking. No soon has this lecture ended, Godzilla's giant foot slams through the roof and crushes the t-rex skeleton.

Now that teaser was more exciting than the entire movie. I also remember a teaser with a fisherman fishing then a huge tsnuami/tidal wave comes & you see GZ's spinal plates rise up

The 4th Highlander movie had a bunch of scenes shot just for the trailer (some of tem wouldn't make sense anyway.)

Im suprised no one has mentioned The Transporter yet. In the Trailer they show a scene with the main character taking a metal plate or somthing to that effect and reflecting an oncoming missile off of it. In the movie, the missile scene happened, but he didnt reflect the missile, he ran away from them

This is an old film and I may be sketchy on the details...
There was this early 90s film titled, I believe it was "Camp Nowhere".
In the television a scene was shown of a few of the campers making a "Popcorn Omlette". This wasn't in the final film.

In this movie called "Good Burger" (based on a recurring sketch on the kids show All That), there was a part where a customer (a tall, black guy) says to Kel Mitchell's character, Ed, "I want a Good shake" [referring to a milkshake]. Ed (being an idiot) says, "Okay," and shakes the customer. This was only in the trailers for the movie, but not the movie proper.

One of the commercials for Anchorman constantly had Ron scream "Lets make a baby!" while grabbing Veronica and breaking a table. I would understand why that was cut since it would go against Ron's character, but it was funny none the less.

The first theatrical trailer for Star Trek Nemesis consisted of about 40% of footage that was removed from the final movie. Most notably, the trailer showed Shinzon in the Romulan senate talking with his generals and Troi being "molested" in the turbolift. Furthermore, almost every spoken line in the trailer was from a deleted scene. The later trailer, probably made after the major cuts were done to the film, features a much smaller percentage of cut scenes.

I trailer for Hulk featured quite a large amount of cut scenes and dialogue. Infact these cut scenes don't even appear on the deleted scene section of the DVD. There was some great dialogue and scenes in the trailers that should have been left in especially some great stuff from Betty Ross.
