Anyone tired of the lack of season sets, and the glut of retreads? I'm talking about these "Best of" discs that repeat, and repeat, and repeat the episodes.

For example:
*previously released
HOME SWEET PINEAPPLE
Released: January 4, 2005
Home Sweet Pineapple
Band Geeks*
Sand, SpongeBob and the Worm
Ripped Pants
Sandy's Rocket
Culture Shock
MuscleBob BuffPants
Employee of theiMonth

FEAR OF A KRABBY PATTY
Released: May 24, 2005
Fear of A Krabby Patty
Shell of a Man
Argh!
Neptune's Spatula
One Krab's Trash
I'm Your Biggest Fanatic
Karate Choppers
MM & BB V

ABSORBING FAVORITES
Release: Sept. 20, 2005
Ripped Pants
Mermaidman and Barnacleboy*
Karate Choppers
Gary Takes A Bath
Jellyfish Hunter
Frycook Games
Club SpongeBob
Plankton's Army
The Sponge Who Could Fly

It's not like they've run out of episodes to put on DVD, since they put so few anyway (dropping from 10 to 8 or 9). Double-dipping is one thing, but it sems like Nick is going for the coveted quad (or even quintuple) dip.

Yup. When I heard about SpongeBob Season 1 in 2003, I sold five of my Best-Ofs because they were no longer needed. And I haven't bought a Best-of ever since.

BTW, the "Absorbing Favorites" DVD is entirely repeats from previous volumes. That's the dumbest decision ever.

I hate best ofs too. The only ones I have is a cartoon network one that came free with a magazine and the SMTV live one, but SMTV Live would be pretty much impossible to put on DVD anyway.

The Season Sets are for the older audience who's a fan of the show.

The Best of discs are for parents who could care less about the show, but pick them up for the kiddies.

I don't get what people are complaining about. Just buy the season sets. Problem solved.

They problem is that they have a couple of seasons left that they could put out, but instead they waste their time on these "best of" singles. Instead of three or four of those a year, they should put out one seasonn set per year until they're done.

Their fourth has just begun broadcasting.

It's some kinda miracle that ol' Spongy can still bring in the numbers when he had to survive for so so long on just those 52 episodes. Even Scooby Doo has over 300.

But picture this scenario: A mom is shopping with her little tyke, and the kid sees a brand new SpongeBob DVD: "Absorbing Favorites". He pleads, whines, cries, until she buys it, not bothering to look at the back cover. They get home, the kid pops in the DVD, and is extremely disappointed to find that the ENTIRE DVD is duplicates from other volumes he begged for. So the mom figures that all future SpongeBob DVDs will be like that- just a waste of money because it's duplicates- and she won't buy any more.

With a kid that young the chances are he won't care or even notice if there are some duplicate episodes. That's how they can get away with selling those things. The targeted consumers aren't very discriminating.

When I was that age I knew EXACTLY which episodes of everything I had taped. I think kids will notice.

This gets me thinking: I should work at a store that sells DVDs, so I can help Mom make the right desicion and buy the best sets. I could even tell her to wait a few months for the box set. But, that'd be bad for business.

But the season sets cost a lot more than the favorites DVDs, right? A kid might ask for the favorites DVDs on a normal shopping trip, but have to wait for a holiday to get a season set.

The season sets aren't THAT much more; typically, best-ofs run at $10-15, and season sets are $35-40.

When you were 4 years old?

No, I suppose not when I was four years old, but plenty of people watching Spongebob are older than that.

And I guess you might be right that kids won't notice. It just makes me sad when they assume kids don't know any better.

I agree that it's stupid what they are doing. That's why you got to be a smart and carfull shopper.

I have Spongebob seasons 1 and 2 DVD boxed sets, so I'm all set for now. Can't wait for season 3 and 4 to come out in boxed sets.

South Park, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and even Futurama have been doing the same thing. Then there are other worthless ones with live action shows like Friends and Law and Order collections.

Since it'll probably be a LONG time before season 4 of Spongebob finishes airing, Nick will probably hold off the season 3 DVD for a while...since that's basically all they've got left to release.

You're better off with the season sets. You get every episode in the season and they pay off in the long run. ;)
