both of these movies have been cited as the one where the series jumped the shark, but both actually have many redeeming qualities. also, both were sucessful enough (unfortunately in my opinion) to spawn sequels. which of these third installments do you prefer?

BATMAN FOREVER, easily.
Then again, I never really was a fan of the SUPERMAN films.

I couldn't stand the last two SUPERMAN movies; I'd pick the last two BATMAN movies over them, any day.
That said, BATMAN FOREVER wins in this round. Hell, I still think it's a good movie in general, really.

Batman Forever is a fairly good flick. You'd have to glue my head to a tv set to get me to watch Superman III though.

Superman III, for all it's faults, is fascinating to watch due to a few little gems
1. Smallville and Lana Lang: To this date, this is probably the greatest on-screen version of that character, not the gutter slut you see in a certain W.B version, but the innocent first love interest of Clark, to return to the subtle environment of Smallville and reflect on a previously ignored character seemed to give the mythology a broader expansion.
2. Superman Is A Dick: The Movie: Do I really need to explain the amount of evil deeds Superman performs under the influence of Kryptonite? Leaning Tower of Pisa beware
3. Superman vs Clark Kent: What THIS was doing in the third film and not the second where it'd make far more sense (Superman sacrificing his powers to be with Lois could have been reflected somehow through this kind of scenario) baffles me, but it's one of the most fascinating parts of the movie, and indeed, the mythology.

i know superman 3 is "silly" but its still fun to watch. i think it has a bad wrap. it may not be as great as supes 1 or 2, but it certainly shouldnt be as maligned as it is for "ruining the franchise."
while clark is bumbling, at least he is consistent with superman 1 and 2. and he is played by the same actor.
also, i think it ironically is the only movie where superman doesnt demonstrate some ridiculous power that he didnt really have. no reverse earth spinning, amnesia kissing, cellophane shield throwing, teleportation, levitating finger, cloning, or bricklaying vision (as long as you dont consider fighting himself a "power").
the movie lacks a menacing villain, but hell, they could have called the supercomputer braniac if that makes people happier.
richard pryors character is actually fairly well done, likeable and sympathetic.
also a plus is the limited screen time of margot kidder.
my final point for now is that without superman 3, we may never have gotten office space.
