Given their track record with releasing the first five episodes of cartoons on DVD then releasing nothing more, I doubt they will change their ways for Batman on DVD. Thinking they will suddeny do a complete turn around and put these out every other month...well, I just don't see it happening.

Amen, ZorBrak. They get on my nerves too. They handle things like iditos. Imagine how much richer they'd be if they did things right for a change.....

I am not the biggest Scooby Doo fan, I don't buy all these stupid movie DVDs that are out, but I wouldn't mind the original series on DVD. It has alot of good memories for me, and has alot of nostolgic value, and wasn't half bad considering the other Hanna Barbara animation of that time period! But so far we only have the first five episodes on DVD, and that was released on March 14, 2000. I just hate how they get us excited then drop the ball on these DVDs.

I would think that WB is putting out those DVD's to gauge interest. If they sell like hotcakes, expect more DVD's, with more episodes per...because WB won't waste the money on them if they don't make a tidy profit...which they will.

Exactly. If these sell, we'll see more. The Scoby-Doo DVDs have been exceedingly popular and they ar eup to their 5 or 6th volume of episode DVDs, I think. Granted the DVDs are sorta iffy in terms of episodes, but they are releasing them...

They are up to their 5th or 6th DTV on DVD, but no more episodes yet.

Guys, you forget. WB IS run by idiots. Here's an example from Harlen Ellison (he's been in comics forever).

THE SETUP: A board meeting at WB discussing a new Secret Six type movie.

The rundown:

WB exec #1: So we have this story here, about the Secret Six (it's a different name, but I can't remember it). Any thoughts?
WB exec #2: Sounds good to me.
WB exec #3: Me, too.
Harlen Ellison: You guys know this is exactly like a DC comic book called the SECRET SIX?
WB execs: "Oh, no..." "You think we'll be sued?"
Harlan Ellison: You guys are dumber than a bag of doorknobs."
WB exec #1: What? What do you mean?
Harlan Ellison: This is WARNER BROTHERS, right?
WB exec #1: Yes!
Harlan Ellison: Owned by TIME WARNER, right?
WB exec #1: Yes...
Harlan Ellison: Well, Time Warner owns DC Comics! You guys own the Secret Six!

And, c'mon, even if they didn't know who the Secret Six is, they shoulda known they own DC...

LOL!

Where did you find that story?

It's actually worse than Ellison makes it out to be. Check out the fine print of a DC comic and you'll see it says: "DC Comics, A divsion of Warner Bros." with the WB logo. So it's actually a part of the studio itself!

Duh! That's the only way they get Batman, Superman and the rest! No way on Earth could they get them other wise! Lol. WB suck big time. For instance, what the hell was up with the cover to 'The Batman/Superman Movie'?

Yep, WB has screwed its fans on more than one occasion. However, they do listen to money. If the first B:TAS DVD sells well, we'll see more.

So please, latch on to this rare bone they're throwing us and buy it! I know the collection could be better, but we ain't getting better.

Actually, I heard that story directly from Harlen Ellison (and if you EVER get the chance to meet him, he's a great guy). It was at this comic book art show. Pretty cool, 'cause it treat comics as an actual art form. Will Eisner was there, too. He's cool, too.

Well, I was thinking about it, and the execs might not have been so stupid. Since it is always possible that DC had sold the film rights to the Secret Six to another producer, it is still technically possible for WB to infringe on DC's characters. The movie business is fraught with legal mischief, and it is still not irrational to instantly worry about a lawsuit when you discover you're not dealing with original characters. It is possible that the WB execs, not knowing what the status was of the film rights to the Secret Six, were just worried about the legal difficulties they might encounter.

Case in point: Wasn't there some set of issues that prevented Timm from using Wonder Woman in STAS, despite the fact that WBA and DC are both part of Warner Bros.?

The rights for a charatcer can be scattered among the different division of AOLTW. The reason why Timm initially couldn't get the right to use Wonder Woman two years ago to use on BATMAN BEYOND was because the complete rights for Wonder Woman (excluding comics) was held by someone else. And since the rights included the media rights, Timm was unable to get the rights to animate her. That all changed about 15 months back when WB got full rights back.

Also...back to "one BTAS disc..."...:)

Well well, lookee on the news page! We just might be getting a semi-promise of multiple DVDs after all...
