My biggest obervation was that this really jolted things that had been buried deep inside my memory for a long time. I hadn't seen some of these cartoons in a very, very, very long time.
One of the ways that I determine what constitutes a "great" cartoon is I ask myself the following question: Is this cartoon good enough that I would consider placing it on my top 200 list? (No, I don't have such a list, but you know what I mean.)
Looking at it that way, there were 10 "premiere" cartoons that fell undeer this category for me: Homeless Hare, 8 Ball Bunny, Hillbilly Hare, French Rarebit, Hasty Hare, Oily Hare, Baby Buggy Bunny, Bonanza Bunny, Compressed Hare, and The Aboninable Snow Rabbit. Of course, my opinion is subject to change as I see the cartoons more and more in the future.
Someone else had commented on Carrotblanca having too many characters. I'm guessing that that person has never seen the movie Casablanca. Anyone who has seen the movie should get a big kick out of the various references.
I thought that Box Office Bunny was a lot better than most other 1990s releases. I especially liked how they almosat got into a hunting trilogy type discussion, but then Daffy was smart enough to avoid having such a discussion.
Some of the so-called "premieres" weren't really debuts at all. For example, Hasty Hare was on June Bugs 1999.
Perhaps a "premiere" means that the cartoon has never aired on the "Bugs and Daffy" or "Looney Tunes" show. If that's the case, then What's Opera Doc? should have been listed as a premiere, but it wasn't. Of course, if it had, then my above list would be expanded to 11.
I saw some very interesting native type characters in 8 Ball Bunny. I'm glad it was uncut.
In the beginning of Baby Buggy Bunny, when they showed the guy standing on stilts and wearing a trenchcoat in the alley, the way that he was drawn reminded me that he could easily have been a character in a Ralph Phillips sequence. I know he wasn't, but he looked like he could have been.
I think my two least favorites were Devil's Feud Cake and Hare Breadth Hurry.
I have a great idea for next year: How about a June non-Bugs? In other words, a 48 hour marathon consisting only of cartoons that do NOT include Bugs Bunny.
