View Full Version : We need a plan. Something.

Not sure if this supposed to be in the Suggestion thread, wherever it is, but...

We need a plan. It's deader than a mass graveyard here. Hell, we haven't had a contest since Christmas. Sure, everyone has a life of some sort (mods included) and I know people won't be here 24/7. We're being overshadowed of course, by WF. People see fanfics, etc and post there instead of here (that's not DC related). It irks me that people skip over this forum. :(

Anyway, isn't there something that can bring traffic to the board (besides contests)?

Sorry if this seems stupid or makes little sense.

Call me crazy... but...

How about offer a prize to whoever can convince any fanfic author who abandoned a fanfic in the past to finish whatever fanfic he/she abandoned?

Have you considered the fact they might be long gone? (just a nice way of saying no)

I agree. I've tryed contemplating why fanfics would ever do better than orginal works, but then I realized how obvious it is. A popular and familiar topic being continued, even through imaginary means, grabs it's fans. I'm honestly not a big fanfic guy. I say whatever we do should definitely be like the past and be our sole original work. There's no challenge or anything if we borrow someone else's ideas.

I'm more of a scriptist as you can tell with my Megas episodes.

Yeah. Any type of writer is fine. We need a cauldron pot (or plethora)!

Me too, Recca. It just seems that it takes no effort to make a fanfic; just some canon and twist it to make it interesting. I'm not the one to go further, since I wrote some (bad) ones myself...

Yep - we've all been amazingly busy with stuff here, mods included especially. We're working on ways to fix the problem and get things moving again - but just sit tight in the interim. :D

I disagree with that statement. Yes, it's not hard to write a bad fan fic (well, yes, it is if you're me. So I just gave up). But to write a good one is no different from actually writing an instalment of what you're doing a take on it's self, it takes a lot of effort. And I respect people who can write good fan fiction just as much as people who can produce good original fiction.

Not that I'm taking offence, or being defensive. No position to do that, I don't write the damn things. Just think it's unfair to write them all off as effortless because most of them are agonisngly terrible...

Um, yeah, as for the board activity, in terms of stories being posted this is one of the most active fiction forums I've been on. Comments less so, but I'm going to bite my tounge there as I don't get an awful lot of time to read things here...

EDIT: How about doing things in the Workshop?

Hm, I have an idea but it will take a bit of time. I am currently attending High School right now and for next year I'm starting a writing club at my school, so I could get some of the members to post here, if that's okay, and have them make new accounts for those who are not part of Toonzone. Is that allowed?

And if we were allowed, we could tell the people of WF about this place. I'm pretty sure most of them don't even know this thing exists.

Somehow, I think you're right.

A plan that I've been having on and off it is try and write a Xoalin Showdown-based fic on here at some point (and yes, Artificial Idiot is right: writing a fanfic isn't hard, but a writing a good fanfic takes skill...or so people tell me). I seem to be held in remarkably high regard over of WF, so this mght just get people over here. Anyway, it's worth a shot.

And speaking of which, I think I'd better start reading more stuff round these parts. Even though keeping up with the action on WF is hard enough as it is...

PS: Forgive me if any of the above post strikes you as arrogant. Sounding self-obsessed has never been my intention.

Really? I think about it and I can't see how hard it would be to work with a pre-existing city than create your own, same with characters. I can respect a good writer who's able to make their own world and keep it interesting and strong to the core. But I often find myself wondering what stress it is to take an established character and do what you've always wanted to do with them. Though I suppose maintaining someone else's world to where it's recognizable may be hard itself as well. Ah, sorry, it's my fault this OT stuff appeared.

That sounds pretty good. Helpful. I don't remember reading any rules that said you can't promote our board, so I'd go ahead. Getting the WF crowd over here is a good idea too.

I seem to be held in remarkably high regard over of WF, so this mght just get people over here. That is very, very true. That may be because you post so much everywhere, and is very friendly in addition to your writing skills. :) Me, not so popular so I think I'll stick with my long-term writers plan.

Well, personally I find it agonisingly hard to actually stay in character with any pre-existing characters I even try to take up. I also find myself wondering 'Does the city have this? Does it have that? What can I do with this villain?' etc. Maybe I just try to harder to make things perfect than other people... But yeah, I do respect people who can pull it off well. But yeah, in my experiance... Not many people can do that.

Still, this is... Quite far from the point.

It's deader than a mass graveyard here.True, I think the feedback and suggestions forum gets more traffic. =P

I don't really have any ideas, 'cause I'm bad with that type of stuff. However, I think almost any traffic would be better than the nothing we have now. So be it that fanfiction brings it in (which is actually the only thing that is bringing any traffic right now) or poem contests, we do need something.

I personally prefer reading poems and short stories (by short, I mean short) because I don't like to read actual stories on the computer, but with small writings (like those I mentioned) it's just easier to read. You may be thinking, well how is this relevant, well perhaps some people on here are the same way, so more poem/short story contests would be a very, very good idea.

Hence my being a hobbyist writer, I never thought of coming here. With the COPYRIGHT ISSUES and whatnot... I'll think about posting an exclusive short story (reference to Kury) this summer. It might turn into an ongoing series, depending on whether or not I have time and space (both computers are in the living room, and I HATE it when people hover over me when I'm using the computer. GIVE ME SOME ROOM).

I usually wake up pretty early, so time shouldn't be a problem. Space, however, is another story. After the third person wakes up, it's over.

But yeah, the more the merrier.
