View Full Version : I didn't appreciate the spoilers on the news page

I know that this is a complaint post, and that it was already said that once an episode of Justice League airs, everyone has the right to discuss it, but ...
When I went to the news page to read a summary of your reactions to the second part of the Aquaman storyline, one of the comments was more than just a simple opinion. It gave away a major plot twist of the show, so I quickly returned to the previous page, a little upset. I'm sorry for whining, but I am disappointed that no precautions or warnings were given for that piece of news. I'm trying to find a way to get to see the episodes in Janurary and February, so I appreciate it if all spoilers, on the news page or otherwise, would be labelled as such so I can avoid them. Thanks.

What did you expect? Those were REACTIONS. Why wouldn't someone talk about the plot?

agreed there was an implied message that there would be spoilers when people were talking about their reactions to scenes from that ep.

We were well within our rights to put up those spoilers.
1) The episode had aired, meaning that we could put up spoilers. If you missed the episode and read the spoilers, then that is your tough luck. Once the episode airs once, spoilers are open house.
2) The post was labelled "reaction" - which instantly tells the reader that the post will deal with plots and events from the episode.
3) And a third thing, the newspage is not a message board, meaning that some rules do not apply there.
I'm sorry but if you don't like reading spoilers, then becareful what you read. "Reactions" say it more plainly than anything else. Don't blame the newspage for stumbling upon spoilers. We can't make an exception and change everything for one person. We are going to continue to report how we report, and if that includes episode spoilers AFTER the episode airs, then that is to bad. As you said: "once an episode of Justice League airs, eveyrone has the right to discuss it..."
On a side note, I may be including "reactions" more regularly as new episodes airs. It's gotten great feedback and it was interesting to alot of other fans.

I disagree with the "spoilers are fair game after it airs" thing. What if they have to go to bed at or before 9:30? What if they live in a country that does not carry it? What if they are visiting a friend that does have cable? I could go on and on. You still need to warn about spoilers after it airs, BUT I think the word "reaction" is a dead give away that it has spoilers. Just my 2 cents.

As a rule of thumb, I think if you're a real stickler for not seeing spoilers, you should just avoid reading anything remotely related to the ep. Just bookmark it and go back to it after you see it. It might not be convenient, but it's the safest way.

DG, I think that is an awesome idea. The people here are intelligent and insightful and showing what they have to say as reactions really shows how great this community is.
As for spoilers on the news page...I agree that discussion is fair game after the episode airs. With "Reactions" in the title, one has to realize that there will be plot and episode information included. If you don't want spoilers, don't read them.

I like your addition to your signature, Flash! :)
I can totally understand, and encourage, spoiler warnings on the boards for new episodes, but the News Page isn't a message board. If I had to take into account a handful of people who may have missed an episode, then that would deny me doing alot of news. As cold as this sounds - I'm not going to do that. And granted, the vast majority of the news, given any topic, rarely has any spoilers in it. I should know - becuase I post most of it up!
Failure offered great advice on this, just skip the news you think may have spoiler material in it. "Reactions" is a dead giveway for spoiler material.
In closing, the news page is not a message board, therefore is not privy to the rules of the message boards we have here. Granted we still follow them, but the news board is for news. But on message boards, like here, spoilers are required for the first little while. We can't take into account the one or two posters who missed it, that being unfair to the hundreds of others who did catch it.
So...well...that's it.

Wow...backstab. DG gets all this really excellent news for ya and ya complain about it? This guy got an interview with Bruce Timm, revealed that Batman animated DVD news, got tonnes of exclusive news...and you complain about spoilers (which you should have say coming with the word "reactions" in the title. That's a real nice way of repaying DG and the TZN crew for all the hard work they put into the news page.
I think this is really unfair to DG and newspage.

Second that, phishman. DG and all the guys get all this stuff for us and we get mad because "spoilers" are posted on the newspage? Nah, keep doing what you're doing, and the reaction thing is a great idea, BTW....

Yeah, I completely agree with everything DG had to say - the newspage is fair game for spoilers, and the word "reactions" was a dead giveaway about spoilers. I don't think the news team did anything wrong, and should continue to report the way they always do.

Spoilers are always relative: some people don't mind them, and others hate them passionately. All we can do around here is try to strike a balance. If you're a real stickler, it is best to give ANY discussion of unseen episodes a wide berth.
DG sets the policy on the News Page, which as he says is not a message board. We're sorry that it disappoints you, but that's just the way it is going to be. View the "Reaction" news posts with great care.

Very well put, Maxie. I don't see the need to be gettin' on DG's back about this. The phrase "Fan reactions" should have been clear enough. Like the others pointed out DG works his ass off on this stuff. (he's almost just like you Disney Boy, the only JL ep he has seen was S.O.)

I was also suprised by the spoilers, but its my fault for going to the newspage and reading a topic about JL. If I wanted to stay "spoiler clean", i would avoid WF altogether, but the discussion is worth it.

I'm getting here a little late as usual, but I've got to back DG on this one. If you're a true stickler for spoilers, avoid all discussions of the movie/episode like the plague. In the message board here, spoiler posts are necessary because the post titles can vary widely, but when DG posts to the news board, he makes sure that you know he's talking about the details of the episode. In this case, a spoiler warning would be redundant.
