View Full Version : A Checklist for "Divided We Fall" (SPOILERS)

Next week, YTV will air the next chapter in the Cadmus arc, "Divided We Fall." While there's still one episode after this before the season ends, my guess is that this will be the final episode for the Cadmus storyline, and that most of the plot threads should find some form of resolution here, with Epilogue picking up the loose ends that could plausibly be picked up 50 years in the future.
With that in mind, I'd like to start a checklist of plot points/issues that need to be resolved:
1. How Luthor and Brainiac came together: Obviously a huge twist like the one at the end of "Panic in the Sky" wouldn't make much sense unless we know how it came about.
2. Defeat/Destruction of Luthor Brainiac: it's entirely possible that the creative team may leave this open ended and have "Luthoriac" escape, but considering this was once the DCAU finale....
3. JLU and the world: Either the JLU needs to regain the world's trust again, or we leave the Cadmus arc on a downer note like "Legacy."
4. JLU Internal: There's been hints this season that the internal structure of the JLU isn't quite working out, whether its secruity breaches, J'onn's disgruntled/overworked attitude, Captain Marvel's disappointment with his idols, etc. This needs to be addressed.
That's four points for starters...any others?

Well, the description says that most of the League will be incapacitated, and almost everyone seemed fine in "Panic in the Sky." That leads me to believe that while most of the League is down, Team Fate will take a stand against Brainthor.
i hope AMAZO isnt the proverbial deus ex machina, but the door sure is open for it.

-Tonight's "Clash" reminded me of the missing Kryptonite. Did Luthor really use it for the energy generator, or does it serve an as-yet-unrevealed purpose?
-There must still be some other things Cadmus has up its sleeve. After two seasons of different branches working on different projects, all it boils down to is Galatea and tons of Ultimen? Did NOTHING else work out? I'd ask them to bring back the Task Force, but I don't see how they would be of ANY help now.
-Captain Atom had a nice shot in "Panic," but he should really have a moment with Superman once it's all over, for closure. For that matter, Green Arrow and Supergirl could provide some interesting dialogue as well, considering they were the first ones to know about Cadmus and have had good character moments throughout this crisis.
If this was indeed once thought to be the potentail end of the DCAU, they would have to have considered resolving the long-standing Green Latern/Hawkgirl story line. But then again they've got enough on their plate right now, and a love subplot would be a distraction.

Seems to me that if Brainiac is involved and may be unstoppable, it might be upto Amazo to take him down. Amazo did disappear during the fight J L U was having with Solomon Grundy in " Wake the Dead ". Where did he go and if he returned, wouldn't it be something if he took down this thing? They did build him up as a powerful character who had issues with Lex. And with another Amazo being shown, Amazo could be a key figure in this storyline. I could be wrong. Hey, I bet no one was guessing Brainiac. I know I wasn't. I go on record to continue to say that I like how Bruce Timm and company have been surprising us and keeping us on our toes. Well, what do you all think?

I want other pple to confirm this...
The end credits have only shown footage of episodes up until panic in the sky? Nothing from "divided" or "Epilogue"
???
Could it be that they...
A) Just ran out of time
B) It would show footage of braniac a dead giveaway to the "panic in the sky" plot shocker
C) It would show further plot twists beyond just Braniac vs the League?

"Question" had clips from "Flashpoint" and "Panic." All clips in the "Flashpoint" credits were from "Panic." It's possible that the episodes hadn't come back from overseas, but it's more likely as you said, they didn't want to spoil ANYTHING for us. I liked the recap of past episodes, it reminds us of how far the League has come. And the Wild West Walk was placed at JUST the right point during the music that made it look so darn cool.

I found the montage of old clips kinda pointless, unless someone was using it as an exercise in editing. If the team didn't want to spoil the last two episodes, they could've just given us the standard non-clip credits. If they wanted to show how far the League has come, the clip show could've been of past Cadmus-related episodes, clips in sequence, etc. Instead we get a mish-mash of oddly unrelated moments. The magnificent eight walk is always sweet though.

The Big Seven (hopefully all will speak)
Brainthor
Waller
... and after that it's anybody's guess.

The New Gods might figure into this afterall. I can't say I'm too keen on it, but it could potentially work.
This fits in with my current thoughts on what is actually happening. My prediction is that it's Darkseid controlling Brainiac controlling Luthor. Sure, we'll have a matrioshka doll of a villain, but we're heading down a wacky-weird plot path, I hope they just GO FOR IT and have full-on strangeness.

Slightly mindless and maybe not a very decent way to wrap up a two-season conspiracy arc, but awesome nonetheless. But if that's what's going to happen, the only major villain the League would have left for season 5 would be Vandal Savage.

But if they had gone with the old no-previews full-screen credits, we would probably all be complaining that we didn't get the right version of the episode and demand previews. At least this way we know they don't want us to know. ...did that make any sense?

Yes, and ITA.
I don't know. I'm really against Darkseid coming back in the finale, unless there's an absolutely excellent reason for it. While Brainiac's appearance was weird, it can still fit within this arc. There's the technology aspect of this story that we both agree on and the fact that Cadmus and the Justice League now have a common enemy. Both of those things justify Brainthor's involvement, but Darkseid might be too much. Save him for the Season 5 finale or something. Just imagine how cool it would be for him to come back in the final 2-3 episodes of next season after a 60-episode absence.Agreed, Darkseid should stay absent for now. Not that I'm not dead set against Darkseid coming back in the next two episodes, I'm sure we'd learn to accept it in time (like maybe two seconds :D ), and there are multiple ways they could make it work. But I think if Darkseid does return it should be in a story-arc that finally resolves the extended "Fourth World" plotline that's been running throught the DCAU since "Superman." Since next season could potentially be the last (but hopefully not), they should look to wrapping up that lose end once and for all.
Although, given the events of "Twilight" would Darkseid and Brainiac team up again?
But then, given the events of "Stolen Memories" and "Ghost in the Machine" who would have thought Luthor and Brainiac would team up?
Common ememies do make for strange bedfellows.

But is it a team-up? We don't know anything yet. These two have a history together, and while Lex might be desperate enough to work with Brainiac I don't see how Brainiac could have been desperate enough to work with Lex (of course, we could well find out). It is very possible that they united against the League, but each would have to know that the other would turn on him once his usefulness was over. If it is a true partnership then that means each of them would have an ace up his sleeve. If it's a true partnership, then we'll see which ace is the most effective- Brainiac's or Luthor's.

True, we don't know what the terms of their arrangement is, or even if its a true partnership. But if the conclusion of "Panic in the Sky" is any indication their arrangement has a certain degree of...shall we say intimacy. ;)

Mr. Miracle, Big Barda, Captain Marvel and AMAZO are certainly wild cards and if they'll appear is secret until friday. I did find that answer from McDuffie to be puzzling about multiple Mr. Miracle appearances. It must be for next season too.
