To tie into the release of the Spider-Man: The Venom Saga (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=142774), DVD I thought I'd put up a talkback for the three-part storyline that completely introduced Venom into the Spider-Man comics.

Amazing Spider-Man #298 - 300

"Venom." Afer his brief cameo in issues #298 and #299, Venom goes toe to toe with Spider-Man. Introducing one of Spider-Man's most famous villain, this storyline is considered one of the best Spider-Man stories ever told.

Comments? What are your thoughts?

I never got the chance to read venom in his first apparence. How did spiderman beat him the first time anyway?

Recalling from memory, Spider-Man defeated Venom by making him run out of webbing and fall a good distance.

Highlights of the comics

1. Seth Mcfarlanes' Artwork, Venom does'nt have his trademark tounge, or teeth yet, and seems plainer, but he captures Brocks' physical prescenese accuratly.

2. Mary Jane developing her phobia of the Black Coustume, which prompts Peter to dispose of it once and for all, returning to his tradtional garb

3. The comic tries some new directions, most of which would be retconned roughly twenty issues later when they proved unpopular, such as M.J and Pete moving into this outlandish condo thanks to M.J's modelling career.

Whilst I think "The Alien Coustime" three part story from the 90s' animated series is better, "Venom" is one of the better Venom stories, and actually justifies how popular he is
