In a landslide victory, Otogi Zoshi has been chosen to be this month's Anime of the Month. One of the latest projects from Production I.G., the series is available now from Media Blasters. Here is a brief description of the series:

(Courtesy of Anime News Network)
At the peak of the Heian Era, famine and disease tear the country apart. Deadly assassins fill the court, and wild bandits infest the countryside. The legendary samurai Minamoto is sent on an Imperial quest for an artifact that can restore the world. But his skill with the bow cannot save him from illness, and his young sister is forced to take his place. Hikaru Minamoto and her companions embark on a quest to find the Magatama to bring new life to Japan. Her survival in the emperor's court depends on one thing, she must keep her true identity hidden. You may now discuss the series. As with all Anime of the Month titles, the discussion should focus on Volume 1 of the series, and any discussion beyond the first volume should be placed in spoiler tags.

Was this trip really necessary?

Well, Otogi Zoshi won the vote, however, very little, OK nothing, has been said about this series. Personally, I've never seen it and know nothing about it. I assumed the objective for this thread was for those who voted for this title to now discuss it and even perhaps give those of us wanting to be in the know some clue as to what it's about.

Let's make this type of thread on Toon Zone viable, not just vote for something and let it hang. Sorry, I'll go back to the corner where the cookies and punch are now. :crying:

Well, I was finaly able to rent Vol.1 and got around to watching it.

I had really never known about this anime untill I saw the ads for it on AS every comerical break. It suprised me, I liked it alot. The attiontion to detail was nice, and I like the fact that it's set (for now) in the Heian era. Though, I really can't tell if it's going to be really good or not from these first five episodes. Though, Otogi Zoshi is a series I plan on continuing.

The dub was okay, I didn't get a chance to rewatch the episodes in Japanese. As for the DVD stuff, the extras were pretty good. I liked the little history lesson. Five episodes are also nice.

Otogi Zoshi Vol.1 gets an A

(Excuse my spelling)
