Sure the movie have just shown.
But we all still want Sailor Moon and the Scouts back on CN! Do you think?
Before those Powerpuff arrived, the Sailor Soldiers were Cartoon Network's first heroines, and their first big hit before DBZ.
All I want is Serena/Usagi to return after a long, long hiatus. I like more variety on CN, and I miss them very, very, much.
So what do you say...

There is one more season, but it would be difficult to edit--it's by far the most *violent* Sailor Moon season of them all, and then there's the gender bending thing...

When Sailor Moon was taken off of Cartoon Network in July of 2002 I felt , then:confused:, then:sad:, then:sweat:,and then:mad:. I was ready to watch it one day and BAM there was Ed, Edd, and Eddy running around on my TV. (Impossible)So I waited, and waited, and waited for two whole years and guess what still no Sailor Moon on Toonami or even plain Cartoon Network. It's ashame because I just started getting into it. Luckily I looked at my library and Blockbuster video and they had a few episodes of Sailor Moon. I rented three from the library but they were episodes I saw already. I got to see the first twelve episodes again. Great but that's all they had. SO THE ONLY WAY TO SEE THE REST OF THE SERIES IS FOR IT TO BE BACK ON THE CARTOON NETWORK. Sadly it might not happen again since Cartoon Networks rights to the show expired recently I believe. So lets hope they reperchase them and actually show them too. Otherwise I'll have to send the Mooninites to Cartoon Network to change their minds. :moon: :moon2:

Generally the rule is to not bring back an old thread unless you have something worthwhile to add to the thread.
Since it's here...
Well I'd like to see Sailor Moon back on CN, it was a fun show that appealed to many, but mainly brought in girl viewers I'm assuming, but the reasons Dalek gave are probably why it won't. And that's unfortunate, because even though it wasn't the best thing.. it wasn't really a dated show (by look anyway), so it would probably still be popular if it ever got televised again..

Being that the animation world now has to revolve around card games and faux anime i highly doubt sailormoon will ever see the light of day on toonami again its unfortunate but i still have a little hope for it look at speed racer it was quite old and it aired on cn and still has popularity today so theres always a chance for a return in some form or another.

Yeah, they just recently released the first thirteen episodes of Speed Racer on DVD. I rented it and they also have they second set out too. That's a good sign. Is it even possible for the Distributer and some Network to buy the rights again?

I would love to see Sailor Moon come back, but after the "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" fiasco, I'd think it would be better off on another network (like DIC Kids perhaps, if Toei would even allow DIC to renew its license, and allow them to use its Cloverway episodes).

I want Sailor Moon back, but I want it dubbed right this time. It wasn't as bad after the first two seasons, but it was still cut up too much for my liking.
Sailor Moon is dead in America. Airing episodes now would just be beating the dead horse, especially since Toei will never let episodes of Stars out here.
(Supposedly, Stars is a shame to the manga version, so it may not be such a bad thing)

(Supposedly, Stars is a shame to the manga version, so it may not be such a bad thing) I wouldn't called Stars a shame to the manga version, it is different, but all the seasons of Sailor Moon had differences between the anime and manga. Here are a few for each season:
(I'm not sure if these needed spoiler tags or not so I put them just to be safe)
Sailor Moon
1.Rei and Mamoru never dated in the manga
2.Sailor Venus kills Beryl
3.Sailor Senshi never lost their memories
Sailor Moon R
1.Ann and Ail never happened in the manga
2.Chibi-Usa is something like 900 years old and has the future ginzuishou (it's not hidden inside her)
Sailor Moon S
1.Hotaru is part cybrog because her father did experiments on her
2.Professor Tomoe is killed by Moon
3.Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto leave to raise baby Hotaru
Sailor Moon SuperS
1.The outer senshi return in manga 14, rather being dumped in the anime
2.Mamoru has the golden crystal inside him, it's not Elios' horn
3.Moon becomes Eternal Sailor Moon
4.Neherenia is very evil, she placed a curse on Serenity when she was a baby.
I won't go into the differences between the Stars anime and the Stars manga, other then saying the Starlights are female in the manga and male in the anime. Naoko Takeuchi said that only females can become Sailor Senshi

One particular key difference I recall in the first manga:
Bunny (literal translation of her real name in the Tokyopop manga) actually physically grew when she first transformed into Princess Serenity. The other sailor senshi had to literally cut her hair to hide the change from Bunny's family (though they noticed it somewhat anyway).
As much as I loved the TV show, Naoko Takeuchi's version hangs together better. Because Toei was unwilling to wait for Takeuchi to actually finish her Sailor Moon manga, the TV show stretched out the story quite a bit, and opened some gaping plot holes. Personally, I wouldn't mind if Sailor Moon were remade a few years down the road, following Takeuchi's story more closely this time. (I wonder if she's had a heavy hand in the current live-action TV show? I'm hoping that it comes over to America so we can compare with the animated version.)
Riza Hawkeye

My understanding is that she does have a hand in how the live-action Sailor Moon is handled. The live-action version flows the manga much more closely than the anime, but like the anime there are still differences. Examples: Dark Sailor Mercury, Sailor Luna, and Mamoru has a fiance (not Usagi).
I don't think it's too likely that the live-action will ever make to the US, I could be wrong, but unlike other live-action shows from Japan that have made it over here there is nothing that could be done to dub it. It would have to be in Japanese with English subs for it to work at all, not that it's a bad thing because it would be fine like that, but I don't think that will happen.

Actually, I think the anime is much better than the manga. In the manga the villains have no depth and are usually killed within 2 issues. In the manga the villains are all unique and are allowed to develop.

Realistically?
I think it would flop, probably for the same reasons Knights of the Zodiac did. Old animation, bad editing, and a horrible dub.
I will admit to watching Sailor Moon when it was Toonami, but in all honesty whenever I hear the DVDs my sister's got playing, I feel like my ears are bleeding...I mean, I honestly believe it's a HORRIBLE dub.
I doubt 'teens' would dig it today...the whole Sailor Moon fad, if there even was one, has pretty much worn out by now.

I'm not going to argue that there aren't people out there who like the series. But as you can see by the 'Which Toonami show is your Favorite' thread, today's audience is diffrent from the one when Sailor Moon was on, atleast in the grand scheme of who's watching what.
Just because you know lots of people won't ensure the show will be a success if aired. I know plenty of people who liked Sheep in the Big City, and yet it isn't on anymore.

In all honesty does it matter what show I'm talking about?
Fine...I'll use a diffrent one.
I know plenty of people who like Witch Hunter Robin (although I loath the show), but its ratings are horrible...and it currently is off the air.
Overall what I'm trying to say is that just because you know people who like the show doesn't mean it'll be a success. What really matters is how well it does in figures when placed on a network.
Given the history of television audiences on shows similar to Sailor Moon lately (I'm talking about dub, animation, and editing here) I personally don't think it would succeed.

Yeah, I guess you're right, most of the dubbed episodes are pretty bad, BUT if they dubbed Sailor Stars and dubbed it RIGHT, then I think it could be successful.

Since Toei is letting the licensing lapse and not renewing then as much as I'd like to see the return of the Sailor Scouts I don't think we'll see it.
Rumor on the Tokusatsu sites is they want to let the anime lapse so they can bring over the Live Action Sailor Moon series eventually. They may rerelease the anime at that time. But the live action series is good, or at least the few fan subs I've seen. Following more to the manga than the anime though.

There is rumor going on that even though the Live Action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon isn't getting the big ratings Toei thought it might there might be an additional season after the first fifty or fifty two episodes. Also since Toei is aware of the huge fanbase Sailor Moon has even after all of these years there is a lot of speculation they may redo the anime after the LA has finished airing.
Currently the discussion is the ways that Toei might take the franchise. Remaking the anime adhering closer to the manga is the more popular choice. As popular as it is in Japan they would want to keep things going. But it's hard to say since SM toys/merchandise sells well even without a show airing.
But updating the show seems to be something Toei is very likely to do eventually.
It is to be hoped that this is more than just wishful thinking on fandom's part.

If it is a problem, then the mods will take care of it. Complaining about the thread being bumped causes just as many problems as the initial bump. If you have a problem with a post or thread then report the post, don't take the situation into your own hands, it just makes more work for the mods and is rude to the new person who bumped the thread.

Hey, an old thread.
Sailor Moon is pretty much dead in the water. TV rights have long expired, and the DVD rights are gone too. I'm glad I picked up all of the original series, 'S' and 'SuperS' while I had the chance.

Yeah, geting Sailor Moon back on CN is a dream. But it is a dream I want.
Sailor Moon got me into anime. It was funny (both intentional and unintentonaly), interesting, and was like an urban fairy tale. And it had Ami Muzino (or Anderson), Sailor Mercury, who had inspired me to what I have become today: A Very Smart Student.
So the chances of it ever showing agian are nil, but hey, one can dream can't they.

The fact that Toei has made in known that they don't want Stars licensed annoys me to no end. I had to resort to a getting bootlegs of something I would have (and still would) gladly have bought if it ever got a release in the US. Heck, I'd buy the R2 if they ever get around to releasing them in Japan. Toei only just finished releasing S in Japan on DVD a few days ago and SuperS won't be finished until at least August; meaning Stars at the earliest will come out would be the end of the year. *Sigh* In conclusion, I can't stand the way Toei treats their great properties either.

I wish it would happen, but it can't. The contract is expired.
SM got me into anime. When I was small I just wanted to see the Scouts kick butt since all I saw were just guys being the heroes time and time again. It was great to see a change. Now, it evolved for me being an otaku.
Well, they can't show the last season. The Starlights are girls that change to guys when not in combat. If they cut that out, then the show's going to look like nothing.
Also, the Uranus/Neptune pairing. They TRIED to cut that out, but I knew they were lesbians at the episode before they went to the cathederal (their hand movements in front of the window? Hello?). They even changed Ziosite to a girl when originaly she's a he.

Back to the topic at hand.
Gotta to agree with everyone here on this Sailor Moon should come back to CN, especially Toonami. For me, this was my first anime. I remember watching SM prior before it came to Toonami. Sailor Moon's fanbase grew thanks to Toonami and Sailor Moon S & SS and the movies came the U.S. If Sailor Moon were to come back to CN it would probably be all new remake.

The problem I see with reairing Sailor Moon is it's really a product of the mindset of it's time. Wretched dub, overediting, skipped episodes, changed music, etc., etc. Back in 1998, we really didn't care about these edits to complain, but now that Toonami viewers are wisening up, it just won't work.
Or at least the pre-S stuff won't work.

I'll have to disagree on the dated animation part it isnt that much older than yu yu hakusho and dbz is older than sailormoon and both of those shows are holding up quite well as we speak. True, but those are still shows that are very popular with today's Toonami. The Toonami that aired SM in the 90s is not the same Toonami it is today.
The dub wasnt bad as in the voice actors...Sorry, I don't share that opinion. Usagi's dub VA doesn't hold a candle to her original...dub actors just don't know how to scream .
...but it was cut up way to much story wise but i would love one full run including the final season (if cn can air an oddball show like fooly cooly adult swim or not than they can wing a couple of gender bending aliens)just one time at least just to give tribute to a show that set toonami up for what we have today. And the changes are my most hated thing about the dub. If it were faithful to the original, I wouldn't have much of a problem with it, but it isn't. The problem with Stars is wasn't licensed and won't be because of Toei. Stars if my favorite season and I think it's are real shame that has even been given a chance stateside. While it would be nice to SM on TV again, due to various reasons it won't happen.
Thats basically it. Unless SM were to pull a DBZ and get itself redubbed (which would never happen), I don't see it being accepted by any Toonami viewer. And I mean really guys, I love SM but why would anyone want to bring back such a crappy dub for a mere nostalgic feeling? Honestly I think most of us wouldn't last watching a whole season.

Actually NEITHER OF THEM WORK! I know she's supposed to be a ditsy blonde but please: The dub voice sounds like a has-been opera singer and the japanese voice makes my ears bleed.
if cn can air an oddball show like fooly cooly adult swim or not than they can wing a couple of gender bending aliens Adult Swim is completely different from the rest of Cartoon Network. Their target audience and acceptable content levels are vastly different.

The Sailor Moon series when it arrived here in the US had no to little chance of becoming a phenomena. Japan has since 2002 has cut off the rights to the series. The chance of it coming back is nada and below zero. Also, the ditz set a very poor example along with her friends.:narf: :narf: :narf:

I don't want SM to come back, because it's simply a very poor series. Even at the age of 12 (And my brother was younger), we both recognized it as horrifically formulaic in the same vein as Power Rangers, and at an older age, I also realize it was an early example of gratuitous fanservice. For the record, that's bad.

Well, I think it was only formulaic in the sense that there was a ridiculous amount of filler episodes in which they just fought a monster of the day, just like Power Rangers. Though if you look at the story arc as a whole it does have nice stories. I don't really call any gratuitous fanservice though. There was a little bit here and there, but nothing too bad. Unless you mean the transformations...

I voted yes simply because I've never seen the show (I've only had CN for a few years; At one time, it shared the same cable channel as TV LAND). Actually, I saw the opening thanks to an ADV sampler I received and it had a catchy theme.

I'll have to disagree on the dated animation part it isnt that much older than yu yu hakusho and dbz is older than sailormoon and both of those shows are holding up quite well as we speak. Two problems with that. First, DBZ and GT are proven ratings machines. Despite the fact that DBZ is old (I'll get to that in a minute) the fact that CN can market the redub of the early episodes as "DBZ as you've never seen it before" gives it enough appeal that they'd consider airing it again. Second, while YYH is technically over a decade old, it wasn't available in the US until a few years ago, so when FUNi first licensed the show it was "new" and thus CN was willing to give it a chance. And the ratings held out long enough that it stayed on air for quite some time. Will it be back? We don't know at this point.
Sailor Moon, on the other hand is old, in every possible way. The show was created in 1992 and was brought to the US and aired in syndication around 1995 (or was it '96?). The show's been available in the US for about a decade now, a major "strike" against it in the eyes of CN. On top of that, even if CN did want to air the show again, they couldn't. As the rights to the licensors who acquired the portions of the show for the US expire, Toei isn't renewing them. Which means CN can't air the show since it's no longer available to them.
Right now Toei's focus is the live action show, which about a year ago (the same time it became commonly known that Toei wasn't renewing the anime licenses for Sailor Moon) that rumors started up about Toei wanting to get the live action show out in the US. I somehow doubt that will ever happen though. But now that the live action show is over in Japan, I'm willing to bet that a few years from now Toei will make a brand new anime, a retelling of the story that's as different from the live action series as the live action series was from the original anime. And that would most likely be the only way Sailor Moon will ever air on CN again, as a new production.

To build on my point from earlier in the thread: Considering this thread has now generated an additional 30+ posts worth of discussion, there was no good reason to close the thread simply because it was old.

Although I probably wouldn't mind another SM run, there's just no way it could land on a CN block given the current climate.

I agree... I don't get why people want to see old threads killed so quickly for no other reason than the fact they're old.

I wouldn't mind seeing it again on Toonami or anywhere on CN for that matter. But the chances of that are nill, since Toei's not renewing the license(that's how I first found out about how licensing works). Which really sucks since there's still Stars and some OAVs that we never got to see.

Sometimes, there is much more to be added to a subject, and other times, it's absolutely unnecessary to revive a thread.

Serena has three voice actresses, so which one? I enjoy all three of them.
I enjoy the dub a whole lot. My favourite Canadian actor is in the dub. :anime:
I'm in the minority here that enjoys the Canadian, I mean, English dub. Yes, Sailor Moon has been heavily cut and edited but at least Sailor Moon has been dubbed in English.
Will the last season ever get dubbed? Maybe. There's always that slim chance. You can't say that it'll never happen because it COULD. Small chance but one (I'm included) can dream. I wish Quebec still aired Sailor Moon. I would have seen every season now. As I said, I love the English dub. :anime:
France dubbed all five seasons.

I really like the shows music.
Now that I know how to find DVDs of Sailor Moon on the internet, there is no real need to have it reair. Still, it would be a lot cheaper, and a tad bit easier if it were on TV again.

 Personally I beleive that Salior Moon was my first Favorate cartoon and I'm still in love with that show. It was a great cartoon that showed good morals and taought kidds that team work is something that should be taken seriously.
