A thought struck me at the end of the Read or Die TV series:

I think I know who the woman that we see only in profile in the opening credits is supposed to be. We only see her briefly pulling a book carrier behind her. The trouble is, her profile doesn't fit any of ROD's bibliophiles: not Michelle, not Maggie, not Yomiko, not Nancy. Even considering Nenene, who will haunt a bookstore occasionally, she doesn't really fit the profile either. So who is it?

I suspect it's Anita King, after she grows up a few years down the road. I could easily see her hair and body filling out to that kind of shape eventually. Plus.... At the end of episode 26, we find out Anita has turned from a book-hater into a book-lover.

The girl in the OP credits is in the OVA as well, so it's not anyone from the TV series.

I say it's just some random hot chick.

Strange... What makes you think the profile wan't Yomiko?

The book-carrier was her tradmark, and the only hint that Yomiko is involved with the ROD TV plot until much later, when she finally entered the OP properly.

No matter how many times I look at it, that person was undoubtly Yomiko...

(Been hunting for read-made scans of the OP, but failed after ten minutes... We both have our DVDs, so can you please go back and find out why you think the woman wasn't Yomiko?)

That is true, but Yomiko isn't the only person in the world who shops at book stores and uses a book carrier. We got a good look at her hair flowing in the wind, and it were Yomiko, her hair ought to be longer (not to mention messier). Besides, where's her glasses?

I went back and checked the OP again, and this time I am SURE the woman was wearing glasses. The lenses were not flush with her eyes because she was supporting it with her hands. You can still see a horizontal glasses support-bar coming off her ear, in both the head shots before and after the book-carrier.

There is no one else in the whole ROD universe, in TV, novel, or manga, who uses a book carrier of the Yomiko design. Trademarking is important for character recognition and personality identification. Who else would be important enough to be the FIRST person you see when the opening sequence starts?
