I would say Ra's A Ghul. Opinions?

Just as Batman is, potentially, the most powerful JLer, Ra's, being the most like Batman, is the most dangerous potential foe. If you've seen Tower of Babel, you know what I mean.

Bruce Timm, if your reading this, may I suggest that you make a Tower of Babel-based 3-part episode or movie??

Time and time again I say it........Prometheus. or Luthor when he has his resources pooled correctly.

Ra's A Ghul is the only Batman villian that could well rival the JL. My choice would have to be Brainiac. He steals a planet's knowledge and then destroy it. That would qualify as one serious villian.

Well, with Ra, I've never been comfortable with him being played on the scale that would require the JL. He's a Batman foe, and Ra wants to be defeated by Batman. That's why he keeps him alive sometimes and goes out of his way to protect Batman. Batman is the only man alive that Ra views as his equal. So if the JL had to face him, Ra would do everything in his power to eliminate the rest of the JL, to leave it down to Batman and him.

I think it's pretty hard to place it down on one villian, becuase not many individuals have been that effective in being a true force by themselves. If they have been, it's becuase the creators bent time and space to make them more powerful. (Like how Promethus destroyed the JLA once, only to get taken down by a kick to the groin by Catwoman later)

Out of the only villians I have seen specifically tailored to take on the JLA, I'd have to say the ones who use mind control are the best. You can't try to beat up the JL head-on if you are an individual, but you can use them against themselves. Therefore, I'd have to say Starro (like in the BB/JLU ep) and possibly the latest version of Eclipso (yes, I've been throwing around that name way too much).

Rha's doesn't WANT to be defeated by Batman. He wants to cleanse the Earth, to make a new world for Talia. He still holds hope that Batman will be his heir. But lately, Rha's actions have been about humiliating Batman. Making him look weak. See the Gotham Knights story with Dick...

Overtly, yes, he wants to defeat Batman. I think MrGiantRobot's point is that there may be a subconscious motive at work with Ra's: He certainly seems fascinated with Batman, and if we stick to the animated continuity (and extend it to include BB), then in "Out of the Past" we see that Ra's actually wants to become Batman, in some sense.

There's something very twisted going on in Ra's' psyche, and it may be that part of him wants to be defeated by the person he views as a kind of alter ego.

DUDE!!! OH MY GOD, THAT'S IT!!! Ra's wants to become Batman subconciously...he sees such similarities in the way that they think, he really feels closer to him than anyone else.

That's an ep that is so sick and twisted on so many different levels. I'd hang myself by the short hairs to know what BS&P had to say about it. (And it was broadcast at about the time the ROTJ fiasco was unfolding, right?)

Personally, I don't think the greatest threat to the JL has revealed himself/herself/itself yet. It could be a member of the established rogue's gallery, or it could be someone completely new...

I would have to say Doomsday cause he whipped the snot out of big blue on a couple of occasions & the JLA also got their butts handed to them by big D! ;)
