Dub Title: War of the Species
Japanese Title:ルフィ大ピンチ!魚人vsルフィ海賊団
Luffy in Trouble! Mermen VS Luffy Pirates!
Luffy Dai PINCHI! Gyojin VS Luffy Kaizoku-dan
Chapters: 82-84

More One Piece, not with more Japanese titles. It's a little something I decided to add after the lack of other things to do. Really, there isn't much going on here. I guess I can say that more fighting will occur today than the past few episodes combined. And it will continue until the end of the Arlong Arc. You'll also notice another recurring theme of OP, that in every fight Luffy is somehow held back until the end. Kinda DBZ'ish. It does get old later on, and is something I hope they fix soon.

Just a reminder, no OP/4Kids/Al Khan/Canadian bashing in this thread unless the episode is deserving of said bashing. And that's only in extreme cases. There are other threads with hate building up, and nasty comments are best kept there so as to make life easier for mods. Just keep it clean. kthxbye.

Edit: crap, missed a word in my poll. "bad" should be before the comma, but my tired eyes didn't notice it's absence.

Being the first to give this episode a big 0/5 has been the high point of my day.

Also, was this the episode where

Usopp burns one of the mermen's faces by squirting wine on him and throwing a fire ball?

I was a little let down by the ending of the previous episode. In the manga, it was supposed to be a huge dramatic moment when Luffy gives Nami his hat. The anime didn't quite capture that film. I'm looking forward to Luffy's first meeting with Arlong though.

No, it did capture it.
Just not the US version of the anime.

OMG! Zoro just did the cluck he did in the preview for the second dub Arlong ep!
"You'll turn Arlong Park into a Parking lot!"
More bad lines:
"I'll make fishsticks outta you"
"Liar Liar pants on fire!
"I'll deep fry your pants and you." (something like that?)
There are many more!

I have a big hunch that 4kids has no more viz scripts to base it off, I'm guessing viz translates chapters in advance....and 4kids gets access to these.....but today's dialouge was SO bad and full of pointless things and different meanings....that I think viz has no more scripts.

Also....The next episode preview ....I beleive was from the episode AFTER next...
Uh-oh...

In some rare times, the original IS at fault. Not saying so in this case, but you can't ALWAYS blame the US dub for some of the inherent flaws of the original anime version. In some cases, the anime is clearly inferior to the manga. And in a few cases, vice versa.

Well Baseball pre-empted One Piece again so I have to find out what horrible time it's going to air where I live and then I'll get back to ya.

It's no wonder 4kidTV's ratings suck... they always get pre-empted for NASCAR and Baseball.

Defintley check your local listings next week if 4Kids TV comes on Fox. Next week Fox has the 2005 NFL Europe World Bowl scheduled followed by MLB on Fox, so it'll be moved around for almost everyone (except maybe the east Coast). The World Bowl begins at 12 PM Eastern/ 9 AM Pacific and will be shown live.

Thought the dubbing was decent today in terms of the acting. I'm starting to believe the voices as the characters, especially Sanji and Usopp who really didn't seem to fit initially. As the others have said, there are many examples of bad dialogue, but overall it was a satisfying episode. Just my two bits.

All the corny lines in this episode made me cringe. The voice actors are slowly improving, but 4Kids could have made a much better and accurate translation than this. Enough with the pehumen jokes. Enough with the fish frying. Do an actual translation and you'll get more fans (believe it or not).

I've heard that in 4 episodes the next dubtitle is "Wanted".
That would make the remaining 6 Arlong arc episodes.......into 3.

I don't know about four episodes ahead but the next two are supposedly "Arms Against Arms" and "The Comeback Kid."

Its not.

Read the Water7,Louge town,Jaya, and Drum arcs.
Very little fighting.
Furthermore read the manga. 50% of those 6 episodes is probably filler and drawn out scenes.

There aren't 6 episodes of fighting. There are 4 and half episodes of fighting, the last 1.5 episodes are wrapping up hanging plot threads, developing the characters, and putting old ghosts to rest.

Given that there are four main fights, and one other small fight in those 4 and half episodes, I'd say that's pretty good.

Oh, I know; I spoiled myself at Arlong Park before quipping, just to make sure I wasn't making a total fool out of myself. As it stands, I'm only about a 20% fool. :D

Fifty percent? So 23-24% percent of the Arlong Saga story is filler, then? Dee-lightful.

not really filler, just sull of scenes that should be there, but they could stand to be a bit shorter.

This dub episode kept the plot well intact and it had some decent voice acting including an improved version of Nami's "help me" line from last week. Which was nice.

But boy did it have some corny dialgoue. I mean even for a 4kids dub. I guess you can't have the best of both worlds... sigh...

I fear I'm getting used to Sanji's voice. I don't want to get used to Sanji's voice!!!

Better than last week's which was average. This may have been the most enjoyable episode I've watched thus far.

I got a chuckle out of "apparently he's putting his foot down". But Sanji's fish frying talk is getting REALLY anoying and worst of all was the horribly out of place "she's a liar liar pants on fire". I mean COME ON. That was just bad.

Think of it this way.
The last episode. "War of the species" covered two 19 page manga chapters, which you could read within 7 minutes.
