If there is any TTTP fans of the great silent comedian Harold Lloyd, I have some excellent news for everybody regarding Harold.

Coming out in the spring of 2002, all of Harold Lloyd's films(shorts, silents, and the talkies) will be released on video/dvd early next year. With the Harold Lloyd Trust getting the complete copyrights to all his films once again and now for the very first time, fans of the silent comedian will be able to see the history of the greatest comedian's work.

I highly recomend to see(who is my favorite all time comedian) Harold's entire work in films and see for yourself why he was the best right next to Buster Keaton.

This sounds great. I can't wait for it to be released. It will go good with what I'm ordering myself for Xmas, which is:
The Art of Buster Keaton: Which Includes 10 features and 19 shorts
• Bonus disc Keaton Plus includes over three hours of rare Keaton material: the complete Hard Luck, two complete educational shorts ("Jail Bait" and "Allez Oop"), Keaton's '50s TV show, photo gallery, Keaton home movies, and more
• Number of discs: 11

While Harold Lloyd isn't my all-time favorite (I like Charlie Chaplin a bit better and The Marx Brothers can't be beat!), I'm delighted to learn that the Lloyd material that survives is being released commercially-there's far too much good stuff sitting in vaults being wasted these days. Glad to hear this. Lloyd was the best of the physical comedians of his day and his work is great.

And that's not all folks....

I has also learned from the HLT, that Turner Classic Movies will air Lloyd's film work in May 2002.Which might mean that Harold Lloyd might be the star of that month... :bosko: :bosko:

And I might I add, that this is great news for fans of Lloyd's excellent work in film. While we can easily find videos and dvd's of Chaplin, Keaton, and Arbuckle anywhere, while the Harold Lloyd films haven't been seen for decades by anyone either on tv or video.Suzanne Lloyd (grandaughter of Harold Lloyd) said that next year will be a great year For Harold and for Harold Lloyd fans, also coming out next year will be a new biography book on Harold Lloyd.

I can't wait until next spring :D :D :D

This is very cool news. It's releases like these that I think make the DVD format great....almost enough to make me forget that this is the same format that studios produce about six different versions of "Patch Adams" or "American Pie 2" for.

2002 looks to be an awesome year for DVD collectors....Harold Lloyd, tons of animated Batman, Simpsons, Saturday Night Fever, E.T., Back to the Future, Star Wars Episode II, and UHF, to name but a few.

Yay!

I'm itching to get Kino's "Art of Buster Keaton" box set along with some of their other silent cinema titles. It's nice that the Lloyd films will finally get reissued and hopefully in a nice restored form (I think the Museum of Modern Art in NYC preserved a good bit of his films)

Most of Lloyd's film were fully restored by the UCLA Film And Televison Archive with beautiful sparkling 35mm prints.

I hope this time they'll be uncut. The versions of his silent features that were running on television in the 1970s were usually edited somewhat by the distributor, for reasons I could never fathom. They didn't seem to be removing potentially offensive material. They were apparently just shortening them.

The one and two-reelers got worse treatment. They were gathered into a half-hour series and given extremely annoying "comic" narration, music and sound effects.

At least these will -- hopefully -- be done right.

Oh, and perhaps this will prompt Turner Classic Movies to retire that godawful print of Lloyd's "Never Weaken" they drag out from time to time either before or after their Sunday night silent feature. It looks terrible and has an annoying tacked-on soundtrack that never really seems to connect with what's happening on screen.
