Really hoping I'm not stepping on any toes with this...
Is there any easy way, such as a disc, to override the region encoding on a PS2 to play titles from other countries? I know it's easy enough to do with a Gamcube but I'm thinking of buying a PS2 as well and since certain titles I'm interested in won't be available in the UK I'd like to know if it's possible.

Get it chipped :) Cube needs to be chipped too as far as I know.
You can bypass region codes for DVDs using the PS2 cheat cartridges, I don't know if it works on game discs too though.

GC can be overidden by Action Replay Free Loader disc, available by itself or built into Action Replay.
I've heard that chipping can be rather troublesome. It's expensive and can apparently wreck your console. Does anyone know an easier, safe way to achieve it?

Swap Magic (http://www.swapmagic3.com/)
No chips required. Just a really small screwdriver head. If you don't have one of those heads, buy a cheap eyeglass kit. It's bound to have at least 3.

My brother uses swap magic with a flip top.
Other ways to bypass the ps2 region lockout are buy a console from the region you want to play games from or look around for a TEST/debugger PS2.

Does having the new SlimStation2 require fiddling with to make the flip-top bypass work?

According to the front page and FAQ, yes, it does work with the slimline models.

If you're implying I should have checked the site, I did...I must have overlooked that info  :o (probably because they list it by model number). Anyway, thank you.
