I was channel surfing, (actually trying to see what was on C-SPAN2, but they changed that channel to TCM), and ran across the dance sequence between Gene Kelly and Jerry Mouse.
Jerry really stood out, and he appeared to look his age too.

Tom also made a cameo in "Achors Aweigh". The cat can be seen as a servant to King Jerry offering him a plate of assorted cheeses (a cat serving to a mouse???).

Hmm, it looks like Ken Muse and Ray Patterson animated Jerry for this scene. Their styles do kinda clash in this instance. The scene (animated by Patterson) in which Jerry jumps up and stops in midair is probably the most Jerry-like action in the whole sequence. Apart from that, it could have been any cartoon character, really. Nice to see Tom, if only for a few seconds.
Now, I havent seen it, but who animates the characters in Dangerous When Wet?

...and oh yeah, here's something I remember. Jerry Mouse wasnt the only character who got the "1-2-3-4/Worry Song" treatment from Gene Kelly. Remember when he guested on the Muppet Show and Kermit confessed he didnt know how to dance? Same thing occured, even though Muppet fans know that Kermit always knew how to dance. "Happy Feet", anyone?

Anyone wondering where this line is from?

Jerry wasn't their first choice, Mickey Mouse was. They actually approached Disney to ask if they use Mickey for that one movie, but Disney declined. They could have already had the scene planned for the mouse, meaning T&J would have been sort of shoved into those roles. I also remember hearing they had to refilm the sequence twice, they forgot to put in Jerry's reflection/shadow the first time.
I'd like to see the Tom and Jerry cameo in "Dangerous When Wet" as well, it and the titles to "Holliday In Mexico."

"Of Mice and Magic" mentions that the Hanna-Barbera unit was used to animate the opening titles of "Holiday in Mexico" (since the "Anchors Aweigh" sequence was such a success). I don't believe it has any popular cartoon characters in it, though.
The cartoon department did another long sequence of "Invitation To The Dance" as well. Gene Kelly dances with animated women and serpents in a cartoon world if I remember right.

"Invitation to the Dance" has very stylized animation, mostly done by Michael Lah, that is probably the closest in look to UPA that Hanna-Barbera ever deliberatly got (the late Cinemascope backgrounds were stylized more due to budgetary reasons than for any deliberte UPA look Bill and Joe wanted for Tom and Jerry).
Apparently, Lah did the bulk of the work on the "Sinbad" sequence for "Invatation to the Dance" in-between the time the Avery unit shut down and the time was given control of the second unit by H-B to fill out the Cinemascope release schedule with the last series of Droopy cartoons.
