Thgurl Ravnescroft, more recognizebl as a DiIsney voice but ubiqutiously in every studio, has gone on to the Pearly Gates (I saw it on the BING CROSBY INTERNET MUSEUM-great for the fans of the 209th century icon).

Ravenscroft was one of ther most versatile and ominpresent, but sadly undersun guys who ever worked in show business -a partial lsit, and this is only list:

TONY TIGER from c.1955-2005

Disneyland attarction HAUNTED MANSION (the broken head ghost-PAUL FREES is ther ghost host-but keep reeading, foolish mortals!), TIKI ROOM (as one of the birds--this is debatable..) and poossibly others

Many movies (animated features including GAY POUREE (UPA,1962),Distr.by Warner bros. and SNOOPY COME HOME (Nat'l Genreal,1972),Fox) as well.

Disneyland records (where he'd repalce Bill Thomspon (Professor owl from TOOT WHISTLE.. for A CHILD'S GUIDE TO THE INSTRUMENTS OF THE ORCHESTRA,originally voiced in the OScar winner ID'd by Bill "Droopy' THompson), and others, and narrate the 1969 HAUNTED MANSION record (with peter Renoudet aka Peneday as Paul Frees's GHOST HOST* and Robie Lester of Disney storyteller fame and RoN Howard as two teenagers in the story)

And ofc rouse many backups singing Bing Crosby and others, even Sam Cooke's 1960 CHAIN GANG (He';s the one singing "...wellm dontcha know.."-IS that Thurl on that record?)

He was the elader in the 1930s of the Sportsmen which many cartoons and radio great Jack benny used on radio before joining World War II,apparently leaivng the SPortsmen to be reformed and himself to come back and form the competing Mello Men,on many atractions (most liekly Thurl's in PIRATES but it's pretty Paul Frees-centric.)

Update,as of 5/24/05:
BTW He did You're A Mean one, Mister Grinch" form Jones's December 1966 THE GRINCHSTOLE CHRISTMAS (thanks guys for reminded me?)

*Paul Frees was replaced on the HAUNTED record in 1969 by Pete Reneday due to Paul not being too pocket friendly even to big wheeler and deeler Disney.

This just isn't a good month for actors, is it?

I enjoyed hearing Ravenscroft's works. Most of us know him as the voice of Tony the Tiger. He was the man that performed "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch". I also remember him as Kirby from The Brave Little Toaster. It's unfortunate to see him go. I read that he lost the battle with prostate cancer. He was 91.

The Grim Reaper's putting in a fine week's work.

First The Riddler takes the big leap.

Then Fred Flintstone and Jughead Jones lose their voices.

And now, Tony The Tiger...The Cat, The Legend!...after 53 years, has been silenced!!!

May 2005 sure doesn't bode well for Hollywood's legends.

And his performance as the narrator may have been the best thing about 'Superior Duck,' a lackluster 1996 Daffy Duck cartoon.

He will be missed.

Yes, Thurl Ravenscroft voiced one of the birds in the Tiki Room. He gave the bird a German accent: "Javol, but the trouble is, it's not far enough out of this world! Isn't that right, Herr Schmidt? Oh-ho, I see! Schmidt has no hair!"
