Has anyone have the unfortunate luck of getting them?

Sure, your teeth'll be straighter and prettier but.. I just want these suckers off NOW. You have to abide by certain rules, like cutting up your food, don't eat stick stuff, don't eat candy... of course, I certainly don't (yeah, with 2 broken wires and 1 bracket tore loose) and the tediousness of cleaning them...

Oh, and the seperators. That's possibly the worse part of getting braces. They stick these rubberbands in between your teeth and you can't bite down or anything. Your whole mouth gets sore and the bad part is you can't eat or chew ANYTHING. You can only eat soft stuff... (My current state right now before getting more brackets).

I never needed them, which was a complete shocker to me. I thought ever since I was little I'd need them, but lo and behold ten years later and so many trips to the dentist man, I've never once heard them mentioned. I guess I'm lucky to say the least.

My girlfriend needed braces. Do you get different colours? She was able to change the colours now and then. I saw bright pink, yellow, blue and green.

I had braces for two years. They were removed in February, just in time for my birthday, which is in April. Now I have to wear retainers, one is temporary and the other is permanent.I prefer wearing braces than wearing retainers. At least you do not have to take your braces out when you're eating.

Ugh, I had braces for about a year and a half and it seemed like FOREVER! I was quite vocal and whingey about the whole thing, too, so I'm sure it seemed like forever for my parents as well  What bugged me the most was that my teeth were straight, for the most part my braces were only meant to correct an overbite - at the time that didn't make sense to me at all though I suppose looking back on it now I'm glad it was taken care of; hopefully you'll feel the same way someday about yours, too =)

Man, those suckers really hurt, though!

Chibi: Yeah, you can get different colors. It's quite nifty!

Sailor V: Ouch... since the 4th grade? I had a temporary set way back then for my upper 4 teeth. This is my 2nd time getting them and I had this set for about 2 and a half years. I'm starting to wonder when she said "I'll get them off by prom". I hope not, I just had a prom about a month ago. I bet she meant by Senior Prom.

Pupmon: You're lucky. At least you get a retainer. =\

Zephyr: Yeah, that's the reason my mom had to get braces too, to correct a overbite. Kinda sucks...

I wish I was eligible for those Invisiline Braces. That would rock so much. =[

Oooooh, spacers? *cringe* That's probably the worst part! *shudders* At least in my opinion. I've had braces for a year and for some reason last time I went they put in more spacers! My teeth only hurt for a few days though! :anime: I actually like having braces! :anime: ....yeah, that's the part where everybody stares at me like I have some sort of disease....I think I'm getting mine off soon though! I hope so! But still, I don't understand why people make such a huge deal out of it, but it's really not that bad! My bro's ex girlfriend actually cried when she got hers off! She liked having them THAT much! Well, good luck!

The dentists said I need braces, but in order for them to even get them into my mouth they would have to pull 4 more teeth out of my mouth. I bold more because with all the visits i've gone to dentists i've had 15 teeth pulled out. I don't want to go through that anymore.

I used to have braces in like elementary school. I hated it I think I had them for 2-3 years.

I was about to have my teeth pulled out but they put in an expander instead. If I knew how horrible the expander was I would have just had them pull my teeth out but then again I've never gotten teeth pulled so I wouldn't know if it hurts or not.

I wish I had actually worn my retainer when I was younger. My teeth are beyond wacked out, though I've thankfully never lost any that weren't intended to fall out with age. One of my wisdom teeth has just apparently decided to never grow in, though. The rest have been there for two years. I don't mind.

It's weird, because I actually sort of wanted braces when I was really little. I thought they looked cool, and I got really jealous in fourth grade when my friend got some. I was like, "Rubber bands in your mouth? Awesome!"

I'm dumb.

Never had braces, but I sure have had them mentioned. They look unconfortable, and to prove it, my cousin hates the heck out of them. I never want them.

I got my braces two days before Christmas a year and a half ago, so I couldn't eat Christmas dinner. As of now, I've had them for 17 months. The ortho said I may get them off in September, which is good because I refuse to take my Senior pictures with them in. Luckily for me, I have not had rubber bands, and probably won't at all.

When I got my braces, I had four teeth pulled and all of my wisdom teeth taken out, so I'm no stranger to teeth pulling:p

I was about to have my teeth pulled out but they put in an expander instead. If I knew how horrible the expander was I would have just had them pull my teeth out but then again I've never gotten teeth pulled so I wouldn't know if it hurts or not. It's really not that bad. Your entire mouth (and face actually) are numb, so you don't feel any pain, and if you take aspring, by the time the numbness wears off, it's not too bad. It just bleeds a lot.

oh man I have a long story about braces.

Well for ten years I liked to suck my thumb and because I did it almost all the time, it caused my teeth to move forward and I almost had buck teeth. So before I could get braces I had to wear a bridge that was set behind my top teeth so they can move back a little for braces. It was not very fun and I had them for a year, you should have seen me try to slurp spaggetti with that thing on.

Any way in the 6th grade I got my braces, hurt like hell for the first few days and had to eat pudding like probably most of you did. Well what was even worse was that my teeth were still haveing problems so they had to take out four extra teeth, I was awake during this procedure and I could feel them pull out the teeth, it was so not fun. So finally that was done but I did not get the braces out until I was a sophmore in high school or 10th grade as some people call it. Thats four years of braces. I broke many braces during that time but its kinda fun messing with a loose brace, just as long as you don't loose it.

I had to wear a retainer for about a year but that was mainly because I lost it. I found pieces of it later though, so my dog must have found it for me and finished it off so I would not have to wear them any more.

But at least my teeth are straight now.

Braces were the easiest part.

I also had to have a bite plate to widen the arch of my upper row of teeth (easiest way to describe this, would be to imagine a retainer with a split in the middle which everynight you would turn with a key to expand it, so it actually widened the upper jaw).

But the most embarrasing contraption was a gizmo called a Herps (not herpes!) which I had to have to bring my lower jaw forward (had a terrible underbite). This wouldn't have been bad, but it was huge... it bulged right under my lower lip, for my freshman year in high school.

Aw yeah! I looked HOT!

This was from my sophmore year (1989-1990). And yes, I know I look like a female version of Skut Farcus (A Christmas Story).

There was no way I wanted to be caught with braces on, but inevitably, it happened. I was sentenced to be wired for a year and a half, and hated it. I made sure there was never a picture of me ever taken where those braces showed (I succeeded, by the way).

Toongal lost four teeth? That's horrible....

I don't believe in them, unless you're a preformer of some sort, or it's life-threatening.

We as Americans hold it too high to look good. Heck, look at Japan (a lot of people love Japan here, so...). They're imfamous for their bad teeth. (from what I've gathered, they just don't care that much)

Good news: I got my spacers out, no longer bothering the hell out of me.

Bad news: I've got these brackets on my bicuspids and molars and it hurts like hell. I hated that part; the fitting of the brackets and then taking them out again to put cement on it. Do you know I've must've heard "Bite" like 3 hundred times?

Yeah, I'm whining. It hurts.

And I don't have them anymore, and I don't need no fricken retainer.

Braces were the plague of me from September 1998 to December 2000, and those two years were just horrible.

I luckily had only had my spacers for less than one week. The real nightmare was the bite plate. I really could not stand it. I was never able to remove it and put it back it for some reason. I had to suffer thorugh that for a year, but the bands were even worse. I could not open my mouth wide without snapping on the bands. I think the "W" formation was the worst one they made me do. I also barely wore my headgear, but my overbite magically became fixed. I think the hardest part throughout the process was eating. It seemed as if the farther I went in the progress the harder it was for me to eat.

I then got my retainers. At first, I had to wear the top and bottom retainers 24/7, but somewhere in freshmen or sophmore year in high school I only had to wear the bottom retainer 24/7 and the top only during night hours. I am still wearing my retainers that fashion even if it has been about three years. I'm starting to think that my orthodontists are trying to milk all the money out of my family.

My teeth are practically done or just almost right. I believe that I received three compliments for my straight teeth. One girl hated me for my straight choppers. Don't Tenku, you will survive and be even more beautiful than you are right now. That is a promise. :D

Yup, I was unfortunate to have braces...seems somehow in my close family we're born with skulls which make us look like a horse if you stare at us long enough.

Oh yea...you get to wear them with colors.....but's that the whole glamour of it all, making your teeth look like a color show. But everything else wasn't easy. When they first put it on (and everytime they tighten it), they would hurt. And I had to eat a potato quiche thing from Costco...and they would hurt. And I had rubber bands. Rubber bands can actually come off during the day, which I have seen.

I was lucky enough to have mine off early (I think two years, than the average four), so it was off late May. And at that time, I had a crush to win over. I didn't win him though. But I had bragging rights to MahouShoujo, whose condition was worse, so she had them off in 7th grade...I think.

And they'd polish your teeth after taking it off.

Then a retainer. I was supposed to wear it 24 hours for the first three days, then every night. I was lucky to hyave a rubber one...but having the molding in your mouth was disgusting. You had to rinse it off after you were done. EWW.

My teeth are "perfect" now, if you call two big teeth in the center "perfect".

I had braces for alittle over 4 years (getting them off my senior year, YES!) and I have got to give thanks to my dentist, Dr. Torchia. I chewed gum, I ate cracker jacks, I chewed ice, I NEVER had a problem! I never broke a bracket. And the soreness of a tightening the day after was so minimal, ibuprofen dulled the pain completely in less than 30 minutes.

The worst part about the braces was taking them off. That was the most painful, irritating, death-inducing pain I've ever gone through. The scaping...of the glue...and the sandy...=ugh= But...the braces were beautiful. I never needed "spacers" but I did use rubber bands a couple of months. Those were hard to keep up with.

Nonetheless, braces are nice. But those pearly whites post-braces are even nicer***

I got braces on back in 1999 and wore them for two years. They didn't hurt once I got them on. But after a few hours, I couldn't chew anything. The pain grew less for a few days till I no longer felt pain in them. I got my braces tightened monthly. After they were tightened, I would feel pain in my teeth again like how I first got them on. This was only for the first few months I had this experience. My teeth toughened up through time.

That's probably the worst thing when you get braces: the changing of bands and wires. You get used to them though. Playing a instrument (clarinet) is a bit difficult when you have that done.

Anyway, my condition's good now. I've gotten used to these darn brackets and cement. I can mostly tear into my food like I used to. I'm just not sure if I can chew gum. I gotta find a way... :D
