Forgot to post about this last night.
Anyone else catch last Sunday's repeat of Venture Bros.? If they did, could they explain to me in small 3rd grade words why the show suddenly recieved a TV-MA rating? Was it the move to 1 am? I'm lost here.

Beats me. Must be the zero-g urine.
BTW- Congrats Venture Bros. for being the first show to break through the TV-14 cieling.

Perhaps the sex scene but it's not like it was shown... It shouldn't be TV-MA though. I don't know whats up with that.
But hey TV-MA is a big step with Adult Swim. Lets see if anyone of importance takes notice out their in TV executive land.

But you CAN see them in the window, like Brock thrusting his pelvis, Brock pretzel-bending her, not to mention the rather graphic noises they make.
"Oh my God, he's hideous!"
I'm waiting for the Thursday replay to see if it's still rated TV-MA.

According to the AS schedule, its TV-14... although that just might be the mistake and not the airing itself and such.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they changed it, albeit quietly. If it is true, though, we'll have something to talk about. I'll catch the rerun on Thursday.
It also wouldn't surprise me if several more episodes wound up TV-MA as well, especially "Mid-life Chrysalis."

Point well taken. That could make it TV-MA. Nothing else in the episode could I imagine.

How about that radio sex between brock and that space lady in the beginning of the episode when they were docking the space ship?

That's definitely a TV-MA I'm seeing. Looks like the barrier's been broken.

Saw it. Looks like it's here to stay. AS should update their disclaimer to "May contain footage not suitable for viewers under the age of eighteen."

Huh. I wonder why they did that...I honestly can't think of much in this episode that actually warrents a MA rating.

Besides Brock giving it to Lt. Baldavich? And being able to see them going at it? + graphic noises

I'm willing to say it's a safe bet next Sunday's episode is going to be TV-MA as well simply because of one scene involving The Monarch. Then again, I've always thought some of the Venture Brothers got away with really pushed the TV-14 as hard as it could.
The fact that Venture Brothers is rated TV-MA makes the fact they bleeped out "Christ" just an hour on Robot Chicken and a half earlier a bit chuckleworthy.

Besides Brock giving it to Lt. Baldavich? And being able to see them going at it? + graphic noises I was never under the impression that you could actually SEE them having sex, except for the occasional leg or what have you. I think I've probably seen less vague 'Sex Scenes' on daytime soap operas...and somehow I highly doubt any of them have MA ratings.
Edit: Now that I'm actually paying attention...perhaps it was a tad more 'graphic' then I thought. But I still stand by my comments. :p

You watch soap operas? :anime:
So how do those, say, get past the FCC if they're so non-vague? I never see anyone complain about soap operas.

Oh boy I've been found out.
Nah, I've been in a house when people have watched Soap operas. In fact...it's rather pathetic how involved some of my family members are in them (i.e. they buy those damn books you see in the register line at Walmart). I'm not sure how they get past the FCC if they're so non-vague...but even I have been shocked by how straight-forward they are on occasions.

I'm curious... I didn't see the show, because I have to be up for work around 5:30 and I'm not a big enough fan of VB to tape it. ;) But did the show air with any kind of special disclaimer, other than the standard "Adult Swim may contain material... not suitable for children under 14" one? It seems kind of odd they would air the "Jungle Fever" episode of GitS with a special disclaimer and a TV-14, but nothing with this one.
I kind of look for any MA content to be a one-time shot, or to not air before 1AM. TV-MA has been kind of a rarity for any Turner network, and when they have done it it's usually been pretty nonchilant (sp?). If they're going to do any of it, though, they probably should change the standard disclaimer back to 17 or 18. It could become a bit of a sticky situation if they're airing stuff with an MA rating but telling parents, "It's ok for your 14-year-olds to watch it."

Nope. No disclaimer.
Such is my bafflement.

What about that time Cowboy Bebop got aired with a TV-Y? Couldn't this just have been another mistake like that?

I thought that at first, but it's happened 4 times now.

I'd wait until we see premieres of VB and other series episodes as well before jumping to that conclusion. WS may very well be pushing a new threshold for content, but it seems a bit presumtious to assume that based off of this incident.
