Dub Title: It Takes A Thief
Japanese Title: Reunited! Usopp Tells Nami's True Story
Chapters: 75-77
Alright, more of the Arlong Arc. Most of you should know what's going on, so I guess I don't have to worry about summaries or anything.
In case you didn't know, OP has been doing great on Toonami, if Al Kahn is correct. On the other hand, OP on 4kids has been pretty much par for any 4Kids.tv show, which is not very good yet not very bad. Whether this is good or bad is up for discussion in another thread on the Toonami board. But not here.
Also, keep the 4kids hate on the down-low.

So, is this the episode that starts three-episode back story concerning Nami?

Wow, they've already sucked all the emotion out of this episode, and ruined all of Nami's dialogue, and its just a couple minutes in.
This voice "actress" is incapable of emotion, and whoever this joker voicing Luffy is, is just terrible.
Can these Mermen just say "human", already?
God, way to ruin the Nami/Nojiko dynamic.
Ah, Nami faked "hurting" Usopp.
They just edited all of the next episode's worth of flashbacks into 5 seconds(originall, there was only a single shot of Bellemere at the end as Nojiko begins her explanation, with those other scenes all being from next episode).
And most of the scenes in the preview were from the episode after next. Looks like they may be merging together here, but that isn't surprising given the material of the flashback. It'll probably all happen in the next episode.

Two things I have to say here:
1. Anyone else had the urge to laugh at how bad 4Kids editted the scene in which the Naval ship gets destroyed by the whirlpool caused by the Mermen?
2. Looks like we've finally seen the first of many arguments between Zoro and Sanji. After looking at a few web sites, I kinda wondering if these arguments were the inspiration for a certain type of One Piece fanfiction/doujinshi involving those two. ;)

That was way to short of an ep.
Was over too soon.
Wow. That was very, very bad. The acting was bad, and script changes plauged it left and right. They also did a great job of removing all emotion in every scene. How sad.

Now now guys the acting was bad but they didn't manage to suck all the emotion out of it. At least not Luffy's anger about Johnny saying Nami killed Usopp. Though Luffy's voice was especially bothersome in this episode. He may be voice by a woman in Japan but he never once sounded like a lilttle girl like he does occasionally in this dub. But Sanji is still the worst this dub has to offer. The line timing was off and it lacked any punch. It didn't match the animation's emotion at all nor did it sound all that angry.
Yeah they'll probably lump all of Bellemere's back story in one episode because in Shonen Jump they have a screen shot Luffy, Sanji, Usopp and Zoro going off to fight the mermen and that shouldn't happen for a while.
So I guess that'll drop the episode count even more but probably not all that much. 2-3 episodes tops I think.
Nami's actress isn't that bad. She's gotten a lot better lately (though she still sounds too young) so I have few complaints in her case.
I think I'm finally getting used to Usopp's voice but he sounded too much like Sonic during several lines in this episode.

Nami's actress isn't bad, but she doesn't have any softness to her that I can see. She does play up the *****y side of Nami very well though, but whenever Nami has to let her hair down, she struggles a little. Still, I think she is well cast but poorly directed.
Luffy keeps sounding really awkward, and the laugh doesn't work for me.
Sanji is horribly miscast.
I always thought Zoro was suitable though. I never had any qualms with him. Usopp's VA can emote, but his constantly silly voice is irksome at times.
A lot of the problems with One Piece isnt so much the actors but the voice direction and casting. Half the cast is miscast, and the other half is left to fend for themselves. It's like George Lucas's skill in directing actors. It just ISN'T THERE.
But we've already established that the english adaptation team for One Piece is bad even by 4kids standards.

Nami has to be vey...cold during the pre-battle parts of this arc.
She eminates this villainy and slyness..... but the english VA just plays her as *****y.
The Bellmere flashback I'm pretty sure is only two episodes .
Its 3 chapters in the manga.
But almost without a doubt they'll edit ALOT.
Also, the marine killing scene wasn't editted that much I don't think. When Smack shoots Purin-Purin and the other marine they obviously bleed a bunch, but otherwise they get whirlpooled in the originals too.
As for voices, I continue to hate Hatchis and Kuroubi's voices. But Smacks was a good voice ......for Arlong.
This is a very feminine character, and they made him sound gruff.
Also we get to see a time-honored bad-dub tradition!
A horribly voiced main cast! And then a very unimportant character like Comodore Purin-Purin gets a great va!
WTF!

I don't think it's too much to say that 4Kids will probably mishandle the emotion in the climax of this arc. Seriouesly, i've seen a few clips, and the level of emotion in the original VAs is something that 4Kids' VAs have not been able to match.
... And probably never will.
And then there's the episode just before the final battle begins, where...
Nami stabs herself in the arm, again, and again, and again, screaming "ARLONG! ARLONG! ARLONG!"... We all know this is likely to be cut, but the question is: How badly...?
