I really didn't know where to put this but...

Is alienracers it really worth watching or is it just another show that advertizes there toys.

How about moving this to General Animation Forum, guys?

Yes, this needs to put in the General Animation Forum. All of the non-anime shows that air on 4KidsTV should have talkbacks there.

As to per your question... I watched (or rather, taped since I had to be out of the house when it was on) the first episode. Me, being a racing fan, was hoping this show could find interest with me.

The show must be completely CG... it looks like it is. There's obviously some concerted effort to put some intelligence in it, in response to the differing civilizations and technology/weapon specs. Other than that, right now I don't see anything else. I think the writing is decent... but it's just not interesting to me. 'Alien Racers' gives off the impression that this is a serious action-adventure show, and dumb characters and punny lines will be far and few between.

Maybe I'm disappointed because there wasn't any actual racing in the first episode... but I realize they're setting up the general plot and that racing is a part of, and not the main focus of, the show. Maybe I'll watch my tape again, but I don't see anything in this show after one episode that'll keep me around.

I may try at least one more week, but right now, I'm probably against watching it full time.

Funny thing is, if 'Alien Racers' succeeds, it'll prove 'F-Zero: GP Legend' really wasn't great, and deserved to be yanked off the air. But if 'Alien Racers' fails, that proves that animators and writers STILL can't make a cartoon dealing with racing that appeals to mass audiences of kids (and it would make Fox's track record 0-for-3, harking all the way back to the Fox Kids days and 'NASCAR Racers').

I could sum it up in two words: "Speed Racer" (even if its two sequels did join the ranks of recent racing show failures).

But just because I could, I still won't. There's also "Hot Wheels" (no, not the recent show that showed up briefly on Cartoon Network, but the original show at the close of the 1960s SatAM action era). The thing that doomed that show was not because audiences didn't love it, but because it incurred the wrath of the ACT because they saw it as nothing but a 30-minute commercial for Mattel.

And there's also "Wacky Races". True, it wasn't too seriously done, but it was still HB's most successful SatAM show of the early 1970s except for "Scooby Doo".

I watched it, and I'm interested. I'll continue to watch (not like I'll have much else to do).

Okay, Gary, point taken... but it still hasn't been done recently.

I'll probably give one or two episodes a chance to test its waters. However, judging from the teaser ads, it doesn't look all THAT impressive.

Looks like crap. These racing/sports/competition based shows, they need to just stick with the game and not try to do more. F-Zero was about not letting the gangsters win the prize money. Alien Racers is about not letting the bad guys win the energy source thingy. This was done properly by Zoids Zero and BeyBlade. Those people were only in it to be the best in their sport. Yes, there were some bad guys, but they only served as a threat to the sport itself, not the world/universe at large.

If you want to make a sports show, make a sports show. If you want to make a save the world from bad guys show, make a save the world from bad guys show. Don't try to mix the two.

Don't try to mix the two.I think the problem with racing shows is that it's hard to carry a series with just racing alone. It caters only to one particular niche, and if you're not into racing, then you can't get into the show. Putting a 'save the world from bad guys' angle gives the creative staff a second group of fans to cater to with one show.

Then again, that's saying a lot about the 'racing series' genre if it has to rely on two audience groups to get viewership.
