View Full Version : Looney Tunes Marathon
It was reported on the news page that CN is going to run a 48 hour Looney Tunes marathon in February called "Looney Tunes A-Z." All the cartoons shown will be in alphapetical order, and they say they are going to only run the best Looney Tunes ever made. Anyone wonder what will be played? I have a feeling the choices will be made more based on what letter the title starts with than the content, though there are so many truly "great" Looney Tunes that that isn't a problem. I have a feeling "From A to ZZZ" will definately be shown, though.
Too bad they'll never run a marathon of every LT ever made in release order...

I'd be suprised it they aired Bosko or Buddy, but I better not get my hopes up to high.

Or recent Bugs cartoons "Carrotblanca" and "From Hare to Eternity?"

Hmm, I doubt it, but since the A's start at midnight, could that mean we could get "Africa Squeaks"? :)
Though I doubt it, they'd be able to slip in quite a few rarities like Bosko and Buddy, since the B's would be in the early morning...

I just hope something rare airs.
Since this'll be starting at midnight, I hope they show us something uncut or rare like, "Africa Squeaks," "Bosko's Picture Show," "Buddy's Circus," or maybe even "ALL THIS AND RABBIT STEW." Need I say more?

Or recent rare cartoons like "Chariots of Fur" and "Superior Duck".

This sounds interesting. I don't expect anything as rare as Bosko and Buddy, but it would be nice if they slipped in some rare cartoons. Hopefully, a Speedy cartoon or two.

A is for All This and Rabbit Stew
C is for Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs
I is for The Isle of Pingo-Pongo
B is for Bosko
S is for Speedy Gonzales

I hope they'll include a Speedy Gonzales or two. They've got two arguments for censoring Speedy, one is political correctness and the other is the quality of the cartoons. Well, there are three that I can think of ("Tabasco Road", "Speedy Gonzales", "Pied Piper of Guadelupe") that are neither offensive nor bad quality, in fact a "best of" Looney Tunes marathon without these three films is one incomplete piece of...well, anyway, it would be a shame. I also hope they show some stuff we don't see all the time...sure, "Duck Dodgers in the 24-1/2 Century" is a great cartoon, but who ISN'T tired of watching it after 24000 times? I like nearly all Warner Bros. cartoons, but It's not as special when a classic comes on anymore, because they're played too often. The thrill is lost. Well, I'll watch and see.

For searching for all WB cartoons in alphabetical order, visit The Total Toon Tome (http://home.nc.rr.com/tuco/looney/tome.html)
Even though I'd love it if some rare stuff were snuck in, I'd be happy if they played some of the more underrated cartoons. Like Matthew, seeing the classics yet again isn't that thrilling to me. Why not give the other greats some time in the spotlight? I know some may dissagree, but I think there are plenty of cartoons just as good or better than some of the more popular titles.

Sure. "Feline Frame Up" and "Kiss Me Cat" are just as good as "Feed the Kitty", but "Feed the Kitty" is the one we see all the time. "Rabbit Seasoning" is better than "Rabbit Fire", but we see "Rabbit Fire" more often. The more popular titles are Chuck Jones' films from the 1950's, and rightly so, they're the best...but choosing from that batch alone there are some 'unsung heroes'.

Oh I dunno, I think Freleng, Clampett, McKimson, etc could be just as good when at the top of their game. And Jones made a slew of excellent cartoons in the 40s... Not that I don't think there are plenty of underrated 50s Jones films, "Kiss Me Cat," and "Jumpin' Jupiter" come to mind.

At an average of 6 per hour, in 48 hours, they can run 288 shorts. Given that they sometimes squeeze in 7 in an hour, you can probably add another 12-16 in there. Barring repeats, that's 300+ cartoons. Also, though it probably won't make a difference, some Warner Bros. cartoons are actually Merrie Melodies and thus, strictly speaking, would not be Looney Tunes. I'd say that this is a pretty good deal whatever is aired. The big question is, will they put up a playlist before they show the marathon like they did with June Bugs?

I hope they do - then we'll know which cartoons are blacklisted!:)
I'd love to see Bosko and the toons with "racial" content too (especially INKI!), but be realistic guys - if CN has the slightest doubt about ANY of these cartoons you know they'll cut 'em to ribbons or take them off the playlist. They proved it with June Bugs.
As far as the "classics" go, I never tire of seeing them (I'll take the 1000th showing of Duck Dodgers over The Hole Idea ANYTIME). Nevertheless, I agree that it'll be good to see the rarely aired stuff. Seems like my favorite entry in the Hunting Triology (Duck! Rabbit! Duck!) is hardly ever shown...

Also, there is a chance we may not even get a 48-hour marathon. I remember that around this same time last year, CN had announced a 48-hour "best of" LT marathon in February called Looney, Looney, Looney. The only thing special in February turned out to be the Porky Pig Birthday Party, where both weekend installments of the Looney Tunes Show were all Porky cartoons.
