Hey all,

I just watched the "Hourglass" episode of Smallville and I just thought of something really disturbing. What does Luthor's future mean in that episode? The lady who told people about things that could happen was cool, but the last vision she had was interesting. I did think that it was cool that they kept up with comics continuity about Luthor becoming prseident and all, but what about the second part of the vision? In it, Luthor was in a field of sunflowers. He looked around and saw the landscape. When he touched a flower though, it died. Then all of the other flowers died. Then a major storm hits, raining blood, of all things.

Here's what I'm wondering. Is the second part of the dream a metaphor? That in order for him to do the "great things" that he talked about, that a lot of blood and death must occur? Or is it
real? Can Luthor have power as well? Clark has the powers in him to help mankind. Does Luthor have some unknown power in himself that he picked up from the meteor shower to kill things with his touch? To destroy anything that lives? After all, the lady died when she saw Luthor's possible future.

I know that you all probably talked about this episode before, but I'm wondering if anyone has thought of this. Do you think that Lex has powers from the meteor shower? If so, do you think that they'll give Lana powers too, or do you think that she's "suffered enough"?

Let me know what you all think.

I think it's a vision. I think it's meant to be taken however you interpret it. A few things are obvious. Lex is going to do terrible things. Many will die. And Superman will be there. See the S?

I always felt that she died because the vision was so horrible. But this episode is obviously left open to interpretation and discussion, so I don't think any one view is wrong. But I was curious how you support your theory? Do we see Lex touch people for long periods of time in the series? I honestly don't know, I never paid attention before. I would think he would have come across this power before. Surely had had to have touched somebody for longer than a few moments before the old lady.

well, actually i don't have anything to support my theory. i was just thinking to myself, would the writers dare to give lex powers from the meteor shower? i don't think i've seen lex touch anybody for a long period of time. he's touched clark, but he's an alien. he touched the reporter that tried to blackmail him, but i think it was his arm and that was covered.

Also, in the vision, lex had a black glove on his right hand. he smelled the flower and then he brushed his hand over it. it looks as if he knows what he's doing. then everything dies. why does he even have a glove on his right hand? could it be that one touch from his skin causes death? since he uses his right hand a lot, i guess it's a good idea for the glove.

another thing i don't quite understand is when clark says she saw her future. did she already know that she was going to die after this last vision, or did she realize that she was dying because of this last vision? because she touched lex?

i'm also wondering if this isn't a dormant power of his. something that has just awakened when he touched her. but if so, wouldn't it be logical for him to have the power start working after he touched kryptonite again? after all, every other bad guy clark's faced so far had some encounter with kryptonite.

i realize that it's a little far-fetched, but it is a possibility.

I highly doubt Lex has any powers, except maybe an imperviousness to sicknesses. I took the whole vision as completely metaphoric.

When clark says she saw her future, he was referring to her prediction that someone close to clark was going to die. However, she didnt know who it was. It turned out to be her.

Just as the vision we saw of Lex was very vague, I'm sure her vision about someone close to Clark dying was the same...

It was pretty obvious what the vision was supposed to mean. Lex becomes President. Then the field of flowers represents all the people he has power over. He wears a white suit to symbolize a benevolent front, but he wields a black-gloved hand, to symbolize his malevolent actions. The flowers dying represent all the people he's going to destroy, and his part in their death is reinforced by the blood raining down. Their blood is on him. The spookiest part of it all was the contrast between his evil expression in the vision and his innocent mug when holding the old lady's hand. Lex has been pretty cool so far, which intensifies the tragedy of his dark future.

This is just a thought, but didn't Lex also wear the Kryptonite ring on his right hand?
