For a first timer, I like the show. I can't believe they had that You Can't Do That On Television stuff. The relationship between Chris and Mrs. Lockheart reminds me of the song that Van Halen sang, "Hot for Teacher." Which came out in 1984 and the album was called 1984!

Was that language warning just for the B-word? Geeze.
Overall, this episode was okay. Not particularly low compared to some other episodes of the show. Some good moments. But I kinda... didn't realize it ended. I'm wondering if having a commercial break before the credits will ruin these abrupt endings.
But Stewie stealing that condom was REALLY hilarious for some reason.

It wasn't as good as last week's although I liked a lot of it there were just some lame scenes like the Wonder Twins gag. But all and all another enjoyable episode.

Middle of the road episode. Law & Order, Oz, and the Osmond joke were the highlights, while other gags just fell flat. I thought Brian's story could've been better, but oh well.

I remember seeing that Law and Order parody on one of the promotional ads for the new season. The extended version was pretty good. The Brian in rememdial english bits were a little rough but overall it was good tonight.
Favorite parts: You Can't Do That on Television parody, Elizabeth Hasselbeck hatching, Chris' failed quiz, woman and bear in bed, Wondertwin powers

I missed the premiere episode, and this one felt really strange, like an entirely different show. Lots of funny moments, a few shocking ones, but all in all it did end before I even thought it was in full swing.

This was a great episode, better than both Simpsons tonight combined:anime:
"How's your oatmeal, honey?"
"Actually it tastes kind of funny. Wait.... OH MY GOD THERE'S A BEAR IN MY OATMEAL!"
"Chris, you're in love with your teacher!?"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.... this isn't my Batman glass."
Also enjoyed the Remedial English class and the fish.

Wasn't on par with last week's...something was missing IMO.
I liked the L&O opening and the YCDTOT homage.
I noticed that in the beginning, the lady sitting behind Lois is that desk looked identical to her and when Lois threw that man into the river the river that said "there's one behind me isn't there?" sorta looked like the fish from American Dad.
I thought that they'd go with a Stand & Deliver parody for Brian's subplot.
This had some good parts but overall I wasn't impressed. Not FG's best.

The Wonder Twins thing and the Osmonds? Wow, two incest jokes.
Okay, this is Family Guy doing what it does best, good lines, funny, out there stuff. I loved Stewie impersonating Mr. Lockhart, probably my favorite part of the episode.
Although I am going to say that ending was weird. I liked killing the husband with the bear, but staying at a motel with him? Maybe I'm still getting used to Family Guy again.

To be honest I enjoyed American Dad more than Family Guy tonight.
Brian teaching the Remedial English class wasted time in the episode since nothing good ever came out of that. Not to mention there were plenty of wasted gags on the parodies they did including the Wonder Twins one. That now kills off the one Peter did with Brian in the previous season. That should've been a memento towards the Wonder Twins instead of Peter saying he was one. Lastly the show is starting to loose its charm without Joe and the other supporting the main cast. Sure they have their own episodes lined up down the road, but their gags cancelled out the dry humor that is filled in their spots.
I got a chuckle out of Brian's story...but that was all. The main storyline got real stupid...real fast. It was badly paced and made little sense, but thats classic Family Guy. A sketch comedy show with a thin strain of plot to tie it all together. However, tonight's strain was weaker than usual.
thumbs down.
Not quite as good as last week's episode, but still very good. 4/5
So is Brian going to be a teacher from now on?
SirLemming
05-08-2005, 10:56 PM
I'm thinking the problem is that it focused on Chris and the teacher more than on Peter and his friends. Neither the A-plot nor B-plot was about The Family Guy, which is usually what causes the show to have its weaker episodes.
Redi: I hate to be one of those morons on the internet who keeps saying "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, YOU DON'T HAVE TO WATCH." But then again... I mean, it seems like you've never liked the show, so why bother? Sure, last week's was an event, but what're you still doing here?

The highlights for this week's episode:
-The homage to "You Can't Do That on Television"
-The flashback where Stewie enters a car containing two people having sex and steals a condom
-Stewie's crack at "The boy with the hearing aid on Barney"
-Donnie & Marie committing incest
-The Oz shower scene ("Scrub scruc scrub")
-Peter as a Wonder Twin ("Form of Janna's tampon")

Meh, it was ok. Certainly wasn't up to par with last week's episode. Is it just me or does it seem like they tried to put in too many gags in too short a time? It just seemed unfocused, at least in the first quarter of the episode. The middle and ending were ok though.

I thought it was a very average episode. Definitely better than some of the weaker episodes of the series. I just don't think Chris can carry a whole episode by himself.
Usually with Chris-centric shows, another family member helps him to shoulder the load. But, they wrote Brian out of the script with him transferring to the remedial class. Stewie didn't even utter a word until like the second act.
As other fans have mentioned, it is rather odd to not see any of the other supporting cast seen or featured at all. Other than a cameo in the Law & Order opening, we haven't seen much of Joe, Cleveland and Quagmire.

Like others have said I don't think this episode was great, specially compared to last weeks episode. There were just a few good jokes and a lot of scenes that weren't that great. Also once again an abrupt ending which I didn't like. Overall a decent episode, hopefully next week's is better.

Not quite as sensational as last week's episode, but still very good. I thought the gag of Chris' teacher continually pulling things out of her breasts would get old fast, but the sword totally saved it. Stewie posing as the dead guy was pure brilliance. I thought Brian's subplot was a hoot, especially during his attempts to act "street". And an assortment of great out-of-the-blue gags (the "You Can't Do That On Television" reference, "Watch out for the stairs!", the "Law and Order" opening, etc.) made this episode even better. "Family Guy" is still as great as it's ever been.

I don't even think this episode was an average episode. This was bad for Family Guy standards. Last week was pretty funny most of the way through, but this week is a severe set-back. Most Chris centered episodes really aren't all that good. This one isn't any exception. A lame plot, along with even more lame jokes that Chris cannot carry by himself. As far as Chris episodes go, 'And the Wiener is...' is the only exception to the rule. Hopefully next week will be better.

I laughed myself sore with this episode. The more memorable parts included the Wonder Twins gross gag, Donny and Marie, Stewie's condom theft, Stewie's burst blood vessel, and the whole spoof of movies such as "Dangerous Minds" and "Dead Poets Society."

This episode was quite funny. I liked the wonder twin joke for some reason and I don't know why but I liked it when Chris' teacher showed him the bad paper and asks. "What is this?" and Chris responds by saying "Two d's and an F."
I'll give it 3 out of 4.

I cant believe they did "You can't do that on television"!It's about blasted time somebody did.
This was just as good as the one before, A minus. The minus is because it relied a little too much on shock gags than it should have.
ROFL at the rack-teacher falling down Twain's flight of stairs!!
If I were them I would have redubbed the "Joan of Arcadia" reference in editing; that show's popularity burned out pretty quickly and it may not be back next year.
Another good episode in my book. The Law & Order opening was a nice touch (especially since I'm on a big L&O kick of late), also Peter pretending to be that guy from Three's Company or also his waterslide down the stairs. Brian is such a perfect straight man for Peter. The whole bear/teacher thing at the end was probably the dullest point of the episode... I better stop.. gotta go watch some Joan of Arcadia. ;)

Giggitty Giggity Giggity.
Loved the Law and Order opening, even with a non-speaking appearance by my namesake.
Pretty much liked most of the gags in the first 2 acts:
- Meg at home in her hamster bedroom
- Peter constantly throwing the things at the guy and just being hilarious at the school
- Chris: 2 D's and an F? (best line of the night IMO)
- The stairs behind the desk
- The Wonder Twins gag
Overall great episode, although I do agree with some of the sentiment that the third act was a little weak.

It was a nice episode, didn't find myself laughing that much, though. It was a bit of a step down from last week's, but not that much. I really got a kick out of the L&O opening because someone in another room was watching L&O: CI with the volume up loud, so I was able to listen to both of the openings.
I give Fast Times at Buddy Cianci High a B.

Great episode, but like everyone said, something was missing. Maybe it the was 'The bear in the oatmeal joke', which might have been funnier if they'd left it as a random joke instead of dragging it out with the ending.
But still, even an off kilter episode of Family Guy is far superior to what the Simpson's have been churning out this year.

"Form of Jayna's tampon" LOL :D
I thought it was funny,though I liked last week's episode more...Stuff I liked....
The "Law and Order" parody opening
Peter getting slimed after saying "I don't know"(I always loved watching "You Can't Do That On Television" as a kid)
Donny and Marie together in bed
Peter as a Wonder Twin

Meh... it was okay. The 'Law and Order' parody opening and the reference to 'You Can't Do That on Television' were funny, but not much else. Felt little for Chris' 'hot for teacher' plot, the same goes for the subplot starring Brian's attempt to educate the 'remedial' class.
Last week's was better. "Fast Times at Buddy Cianci High" earns a 7 out of 10.

I liked both Simpsons more than Family Guy tonight too. They were in no way funnier but they sure as heck had a lot more substance.
I loved the joke about the two fish, one of whom hated guys in blue suits. I wish Family Guy would do more weirdly random, wacky jokes like that. Incest jokes make me kind of nervous.
I dunno, it's good to have the show back I guess, and I loved Stewie in the dead guys suit and Brian being all street ("that's racist") but the episode was missing something.

Much better than last week's. And the question "Can the adults understand Stewie" is finally answered (well, at least it's the first time I've seen it, it may not be the first time it's been on the show). Eh, a little better than last week, but still, I just thought it was okay. There were some of the jokes that were funnier than last week, including Law & Order, Wonder Twins, and You Can't Do That On Television, but there were still some other jokes that were forced. The ending was rather dull and completely useless, it completely didn't make sense at all. I loved Stewie in this one, especially his quote, "Hey! Do you have any idea what time it is? Get back here, fatty!"
But that's just it. Overall, this gets a 2.5/5.
This show has done pretty well against Careless Housewives and the Elvis TV movie at 9:00. Link (http://tv.yahoo.com/news/mw/20050509/111568671300.html) An especially good sign were ratings for 18-49.
Eh... two things I didn't like here.
1) I didn't like the fart jokes. There were like, three in this episode. I thought the opening one was funny, but the other two seemed like they were there so they could have fart humor.
2) I had this fear... Stewie would become a stereotypical feminine gay. I thought last week's overplay was because of "Brian's the dad, Stewie's the mom" thing, but this week's episode decided to continue that...
Otherwise, it was okay. Nothing really special. The "I hate guys in a blue suit" made me laugh though.

I liked both Simpsons more than Family Guy tonight too. They were in no way funnier but they sure as heck had a lot more substance. But is it really a fair complaint? I agree that both episodes of The Simpsons were way more meaningful than tonight's epsiode of Family Guy and in theory the characters are stronger. But in the end no matter how deep or emotional The Simpsons tries to be, it fails at delivering actual quality. Not one episode in the past few seasons has lived up to a masterpiece like "Lisa's Substitute." Family Guy never pretends or tries to have deep characters or deep meanings, it is what it is, it's damn good as what it is, so why should it be judged for not being something else?

If Family Guy meets all of your requirements for satisfying cartoon show then that's great! It just doesn't meet all of mine.:)
Actually, I've liked quite a few episodes The Simpsons have delivered in the past couple of years like The Wandering Juvie and Sleeping with the Enemy. And I DID think last week's Family Guy was a marked improvement over the early seasons of the show. I just get different needs met from different cartoons and I LIKE that The Simpsons tends to meet more of them for me. To each his own.:)

An alright episode. I liked Drew Barrymore as Mrs. Lockhart (and the fact that FOX didn't promote her guest spot), and all of the pop culture references (especially the You Can't Do That on Television gag). The plot was a little random, thought, so I kinda lost attention at the end. I did like Brian as Chris's teacher, it could've been interesting to see Brian at work interacting with Chris (and maybe we'd see more stuff like Chris and Peter egging their own house). They ruined that, however, by putting him in the remedial class, which was really unfunny. I hope that they either put him back in Chris's class or just drop that job because if he keeps it, that would seriously hurt the show. Another thing they need to get rid of is the greased up deaf guy. It wasn't funny the first time, wasn't funny last week, and I'm sick of it now.

Not really. Whenever there is a guest star on The Simpsons, Fox loves to put full page ads out pimping it. Seth & co. also mentioned on the FG commentaries about how they were this show that was virtually watched by nobody, yet they managed to get HUGE names on the show (Entire KISS band, Regis Philbin/Kelly Ripa, Luke Perry, etc.), and still didn't get any recognition:shrug:
This season has been solid so far. Last night's episode recieves an A+.

I think it'd be cool if Family Guy had one episode that had a deeper meaning. It would be so different. It WOULD be neat, wouldn't it? It would also give the show some longer term appeal if it had something to rely on other than jokes. After I've seen the reruns three times, they aren't really that funny anymore. I think it would be a mistake for Mr. MacFarlane to NOT delve deeper into the characters and actually have a distinctive message. It could only help in the long run.

That's why "Brian Wallows and Peter's Swallows" is one of my favorite Season 3 episodes - it has such great rewatchability due to the fact that it delves a little deeper into the characters.

Brian is the deepest character in FG, but only a couple of episodes have revolved around him. They should give him more screentime. Meg is another one. She gets the least screentime out of all the FG characters. The writers should work on developing her more. That could also apply to Chris too, who hasn't had much development on the show either. With Lois, they should have an episode were they would flashback to her childhood so they can find the source of some of her problems (like anger, etc). Don't get me wrong, but the sight-gags are very funny but they don't really develop the characters.

With Lois, they should have an episode were they would flashback to her childhood so they can find the source of some of her problems (like anger, etc). Don't get me wrong, but the sight-gags are very funny but they don't really develop the characters. Actually the reason for this was because she was a sideshow, she looked kinda like a neanderthal.

"ME liky bouncy"I think that was a sight gag, not character development.
