In a Simpson episode where Homer Simpson created a "patente a gosses" where no created Thomas Edison. He contained i think also a Heckle & Jeckle prototype during the Homer's dream in futur cymetery. Isn't it Heckle & Jeckle? :p

I keep missing that episode, but I did hear that Heckle and Jeckle made a cameo appearance in a Simpsons episode involving a cemetery, so yep, those were the Magpies.

Heckle and Jeckle made an appearance in this episode, during one of Homer's dream scenes, where there are totally unpopular stars having millions of awards (including Barney Gumble!) at Homer's funeral, where Homer's body is just dumped in to a grave hole, via dumptruck, with garbage piling on his corpse. H&J are standing there watching this, and Heckle says "Poor piece of crap, wasn't he?"

There have been a lot of classic cartoon references in "The Simpsons." To name a few:

In the Itchy and Scratchy Land episode, there is a reference to FANTASIA called "Scratchtasia" with the SORCERER'S APPRENTICE segment. There is also a reference to the movie PINOCCHIO called "Pinnitchio."

In the Itchy and Scratchy movie episode, there is a reference to STEAMBOAT WILLIE, which is "Steamboat Itchy."

In one episode (forget which one), Homer dreams that he is a bear who bears (no pun intended) a strong resemblance to Yogi and Bart is Boo Boo. Together, they try to steal from Ranger Ned.

Also, remember the one with the time travel toaster that had Peabody and Sherman!

Plus, both Homer and Bart's middle initials are J, just like Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose.

One of the Halloween eps also had an alien suspect line-up that included Marvin the Martian.

There's the episode where a badger is in Santa's Little Helper's doghouse, and Bart reads that badgers eat woodpeckers. Bart asks Rod next door if he can borrow his woodpecker, and he agrees to, "But bring him back by six cause it's his birthday". Bart tries to shove the woodpecker in the doghouse but it pecks Bart on the head and flies off. While doing this, the bird does a squeaky version of Woody Woodpecker's laugh, before getting frazzled (but not killed) by the Simpsons' bug zapper.

In the episode where Homer got to go on the space shuttle, the centrifugal force test distorted his face so it looked like Popeye's, and he muttered "I can't stands no more!".

And in the more recent episode where Bart was put on an experimental drug for ADD, it ended with Bart singing "When I do too much fiddlin'/I just takes me Ritalin/I'm poppin' and sailin', man!", then blowing smoke out of his ears-toot! toot!

There's also the episode "Bart Of Darkness" when Homer is trying to get rid of the trampoline, in a style extremely reminiscent of the RR/Coyote cartoons.

Actually, Larry, that episode was "Bart's Inner Child". Here's some more references:

"30 Minutes Over Tokyo"

Homer calls a sumo wrestler Baby Huey.

"The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show"

June Bellamy: "... I also used to play the Road Runner. *Beep!*

Homer: "You mean, *Beep! Beep!*"

JB: "No, they only payed me to say it once, then doubled it on the soundrack. Cheap b@$t@rd$."

(Not Really A Reference But):

"Bart Vs. Australia"

Homer: "Quick, jump into those kangaroos' pouches! They'll take us to safety!"

Bart: "Ewww, these are slimey, not like in the cartoons!

Homer: "Yeah they're supposed to be slimier."

--that in one episode Burns gives a speech, looking out his nuclear power plant window, very reminicent of Chuck Jones' Grinch.

Some of the couch gags on The Simpsons also reference classic cartoons:

-the "Simpson Tide" episode has a couch gag the spoofs the transition scene from the Rocky and Bullwinkle show (with them growing out of the ground like flowers), right down to the music! This has to be one of the best couch gags!

-the "Bart's Comet" episode has the Simpsons looking the way Mickey Mouse did in the late 20's. The whole scene is in B&W, has film scratches, and Bart is wearing Mickey Mouse-type pants!

-Another episode's couch gag has the floor as a treadmill, which Homer gets stuck on; his response: "Marge, stop this crazy thing!" ala the Jetsons!

-Another episode has the family running to their couch to find...The Flintstones!

-The Simpsons run by the same couch (with huge grins on their faces, and accompanied by a cartoon running sound effect) several times, referencing the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons.

-In a nod to a Tex Avery gag, another couch gag has the Simpsons run past the couch, and off the film they are printed on! They frantically run to get back onto the film.

Couch gags aside, Henry Corden did his Fred Flinstone voice for an episode. There are too many references to Hanna-Barbera cartoons to list. If you guys want to, check out www.snpp.com which is a Simpsons database.

That was in "Sideshow Bob Roberts" where Sideshow Bob was elected mayor of Springfield. Sideshow Bob sent Bart back to kindergarten. For answering a question correctly, Bart got first choice of toys during playtime. Bart picked the Flintstone phone. He dialed Fred who said, "Yabba Dabba Doo! I like talking to you!"

The same episode also featured an appearance by Archie, Jughead and Moose from Archie comics. They told Homer to stay out of Riverdale.

One of my favorite H-B references was Ralph Wiggum's claim that Snagglepuss went to the bathroom in the bushes by Springfield Elembentary. Thankfully, this was only mentioned and not shown.

There was also the one where Bart went to see how Itchy & Scratchy were made, and the Roger Myers character said something like "Sometimes we use certain techniques to cut corners, such as repeating the same background over and over." As he's saying this, Bart and him are walking down a hall and you can see them pass the same water cooler and female janitor several times.
