USA TODAY reports that Justin Timberlake has been cast as Artie, the teenage, rebelious high school student friend of Fiona (Cameron Diaz, his real life main squeeze) who would become king in Shrek 3, due out May 18, 2007 from DreamWorks Animation SKG and Pacific Data Images.

Discuss.

Hey guys! Money on the main theme of the story that it's about being yourself!

It's going to be sending up King Arthur, apparently.

Dreamworks task of making sure the story takes a backseat to the talent is complete!

What happens when the inevitable breakup of Diaz and Timberlake occurs though before the movie is even close ro release?

If Timberlake breaks out with the choreography in this movie, I'll be sick! :ack:

I always thought that the inevitable storyline for the next Shrek would be "The son of Shrek", but I guess not ^^; Probably a good thing it isn't (That would of just been predictable), but having Timberlake as King Arthur doesn't sound too redeeming to me. Oh well.

Wait, does King Arthur even count as a traditonal Fairy Tale character? I mean unless ofcourse they plan on having Shrek 3 spoof the ending of Morte De Arthur...

Justin Timberlake is going to be in "Shrek 3".

I don't know which part of that sentence upsets me more.

I don't really care about Shrek 3 or any Dreamworks animation anymore. I lost all respect for them after the debacle of hyping up Shrek 2, which was contrived and wasn't even half the movie the original was. I can't wait to laugh at how ridiculous the hype will be for this one in '07.

I don't understand why everyone is ragging on "Shrek"; I'm not a huge fan of the other Dreamworks animated properties, but I thought both Shrek films have been excellent thus far. A third one is obviously a no-brainer.

Of course, having JT involved doesn't get me any more excited, though. :p

-TimI agree, although I do have to admit I didn't like:

1. The endings bashing people's heads over with preachy values.
A. The first had a problem not just with that, but also with the fact it seemed like/was actually/something with the ending seemingly forcing that change on Fiona. I don't know, it would take awhile to explain and is probably best suited for another thread.
B. The second movie was even preachier, ALTHOUGH I did love the coriness of everyone jumping and dancing at the end to the music :D I KNOOOOOOW that it probably was NOT an attempt at showing how cornier the sequal was to the first but was probably just an attempt at showing the audience something that would be considered mainstream cool in a goofy cartoon way that fits the second movie's spoofing nature, but I still found it funny :D

2. Puss In Boots joined the good guys too soon and could've used some more development, plus they started making fun of him too soon before showing how much of a bad ass he is (although he does get his due later in the movie).

3. The second movie, while still plenty full of charming and touching moments, WAS of less quality than the first one was. SURE I laughed at the spoofs, but it was obvious to everyone that it was an attempt of covering up a script that could've used some work OR didn't even need the jokes. If it fixed the mistakes above, it would've been perfect for a kids movie with stuff in there for the parents.

Hey, if that's not enough, at least they made fun of how annoying Donkey could get at times when they added Puss In Boots, that's something :p

Shrek does seem to be one of the better of the Dreamworks projects, I've liked some of their others, but Shark Tale's humor was sullied by the sterotypes that was the ENTIRE collection of characters, and while Madagascar (spelling's probably bad, right?) looks funny, the animation........looks like their trying to pull it off as style, but looks more like being cheap and quickly made to me.........although I doubt most kids will care, hence the reasoning that probably went behind making it that way.

It won't get me excited to see JT as Artie either.

JT was born to play a cuckhold. Dude, you can make Shrek's Lancelot beyond repellant and you'll still understand why Guinevere went for him the minute JT's Arthur opens his mouth.

The trailer for Madagascar hasn't even impressed me one bit. I mean, a New York Giants ref? On an African island? WTH?

Dark Fact, you're going OT here. As for an earlier poster that asked, yes, a baby will be in the plot of Shrek 3. Who is the daddy? You'll have to wait.

What's next? A Medieval Beverly Hills? Fishy Times Square? That's just Dreamworks' MO. Think Aladdin was anchronistic with the Genie's references and the princess getting to choose her husband? DWSKG is out to top it.
