I was watching Wednesday nights episode of The Tick when an advertisement for a new Fox show called That 80's Show came on. It's from the creators of That 70's Show and that it was "coming soon."
From what they showed, no one from That 70's Show was in it. They showed a couple of guys watching Dynasty taking shots of whatever everytime one of the characters got into a fight. And they showed a really excited guy calling someone from one of those HUGE cell phones when they first came out.
Being a child of the 80's, this show could be very fun to watch. Anyone else see the ad or have heard of the show?

You know, I was just about to post a thread on that. I swore it was a joke the first time I saw that spot, but it looks like they're serious. That 70s Show is a great series, but... will lightning strike twice with retro themes? Then again, that 70s Show is only marginally about the 70s, so we'll see what happens...

Are the same people behind That 70's Show working on That 80's Show? If so, I have some misgivings given they also gave us that horribly bad John Goodman comedy last year! http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/s2/contrib/sarge/Whatever_anim.gif

I predicted The 80's Show a few years ago! Of course I was only kidding at the time. You know what'll be scary is when they get to the point of making That 90's Show. That's when we officially become old.

That 90's show...oye...as a child of the 90's, I feel old already...
But, I lived during half of the 80's...as a toddler...so...grr..
Dude, the 80's ruled. As long as they deal with such home-hitting issues as "He-Man", "Ghostbusters", and "Ninja Turtles", I'm sure this show is gona be a big hit!

...
I have absolutely no hope for this show...really..I dont... :p

I thought it was a joke. Then I found out it was real, then thought it was kinda sad. Can FOX not come up with an original idea for a show? If they put some thought to it I'm sure they could...

Fox is very hit or miss...
Simpsons - Hit
Malcolm In the Middle - Hit
X-Files - Hit...
I'll not list the misses...they are far to numerous. The fact that they're planning on giving up on saturday morings all together, should tell you something.

Actually, if you stop and think about it, That 70's Show wasn't exactly an original idea. They seemed to be trying to cash in on the success of movies like Dazed and Confused and other movies that successfully used the 70's as their theme. Of course, it has evolved into something more, but at the time it premiered, it felt a bit more like a nostolgic novelty.

Oh, I don't know, I'd love to see at least an episode or two. I was born in the early 80s so I don't remember it quite that well. It would be fun to see what older people (i.e. not children) were into in the 80s, what TV shows were popular, etc. Not that I'm not aware of what was popular, but you get what I mean. Any mention of my fave childhood cartoons would be great! How about an episode involving Cabbage Patch dolls? lol!

Given my love of That 70's show, I'll at least check out a few eps of That 80's show. I suspect, however that it will end up being a miss. Of course I though the same thing of That 70's when it first started and look at me now. :)
But can they really hit gold twice? I don't know. First That 70's had two things going for it. 1) It's fun to make fun of the 70's. :D 2) That 70's takes place a good 25 years ago.
That 80's show on the other hand...
I'm just hoping they way at least decade before they do That 90's Show.

I'm sure we'll see references to a lot of 80's shows like Dallas, Dukes of Hazzard, A-Team, Three's Company, He-Man (hopefully) :), etc. It looks like fun so we'll have to see what happens. Also, events of the 80's like Regan, the Challenger explosion (maybe), CD players, etc. I can't wait to see it.

Since I was in junior high and high school during the 80s, I guess I will have to check out this show when it comes on.

Theres not as much to make fun of about the 80`s as there was in the 70`s,and would a parody OF 80`s tv be one of those "family values" type shows with a goofy little neighbor kid?
Oh well. The logo for the title Is in the same font as the original "Pac-man" arcade,so that alone makes me want to watch it.

Eh, i'm getting a feeling that this won't be good. I just don't see this lasting long. But what do i know...

Let's not forget....the eighties were a parody of other decades in themselves! So our show here is gonna have trouble parodying it...;)
Still, this show is gonna bomb, I just know it...(has a twinge of sadness, with many fond memories as a snot-nosed toddler in the 80s)

i just hope they dont go the same route as "The Wedding singer"-make the 80's a subplot instead of a setting.

I think there is plenty to pick on from the 80's...the movies, the TV shows, the clothes, the horrible hair styles, the cheesy music, Reganomics, and so much more. I don't know if I want to see a TV show set in the decade, tho....
Anybody catch That 70's Show that went forward in time to the 80's, where Eric got to see what his life would have been like had he and Donna never kissed? I guess the creators of That 70's Show had been thinking about it for a while.
I would rather see the name of That 70's Show change if it goes on much longer to That 80's Show. Shouldn't they be coming up to that decade soon anyway? They were in 1977 in the first season.

Eh.....I really don't know what to expect. I think That 70s Show is pretty funny, but this sounds pretty weak. (And yeah, I'm an 80s child too- albeit I was a wee one).
See? Told ya the millenium is the time for the 80s to shine!

JK! I spent part of my early days in the 70's too, as I also know other members here have, too.

That's fine...Plenty of people don't.
Either way, not that I watch FOX anymore to begin with, but I'm not watching this. I'm a "Tot of the 80s", but enough of the decade's culture was subconsciously planted into me to know that "T-80-S" probably won't do that good.
Also, if it's not fun to make fun of the 80s, then how come magazines, MTV, VH1 and even 80s artists themselves make fun of the decade, or wish it never happenned and write it off with a joke?
I love the 80s, and I ain't watching the show.
Sincerely,
John "Captain Caps" Kilduff

Uh, I was a mere toddler in the 80's also. Like others, I thought it was a joke when I first saw it while watching The Tick. In my opinion, this show will bomb. I watch That 70's show, but I don't think they can pull it off two times, myself.

You never know tho....Fraiser has gone on almost as long as Cheers did. But success like that is rare.

i saw the commercial for it and it looks really really stupid! a total rip-off of that 70's shows and it worse!!

I don't know if I'd call it a rip off. The creators of That 70's Show ARE the ones that created That 80's Show. I guess we'll all see soon how good or how bad it is. To me though, it looks like it could be could. I was born in 1979, so most of the stuff that they're going to refer to, I'll remember and love seeing again.
