Hi! I'm new at this so please bear with me.
While watching 'Secret Origins' for about the hundreth time,I noticed something. At the end of the third part, while MM is being tortured by the Imperium,I always wondered why Superman didn't use his heat vision and break free .Now ,after hearing Batman's explanation on why the aliens were blocking out the sun,I know now why he didn't.HE WAS TOO WEAK! Batman said they weren't used to our sun's radiation and that's what powers Superman.(So that's why Superman gave a smile....) :)

Good call, livewire. Welcome aboard!
Speaking of new discoveries, wasn't that General Hardcastle (The Prometheon) guarding the base where J'onn was being held? I know it was an alien posing as a general and that it was someone else's voice, but it sure did look like him.

You know, I was thinking that myself. Probably just a coincidence, but still...

i speculated this to myself a while back
it also explains why he didnt easily break outta his bonds
im wondering when superman developed such a weakness to electricity-- seems to be almost as good as kryptonite against him!

Superman has always been vulnerable to electricity in the animated series. I'm no expert, but I think electricity works from inside the body, in the cellular structure.

He has water in his body, just like everyone else. Being electrocuted won't kill him, but it won't feel good either.

I think thats the key thing: electricity doesn't damage him particularly, but it is VERY painful, bypassing invulnerability with regard to pain tolerance.

You have to realize that the electrical attacks that Superman faced were very powerful. We're not talking about someone getting a shock from a toaster here, we're talking about him channeling most of the energy from lightning in the Livewire episode, and the guy was relatively unharmed. It's not that he's particularly weakened by electricity, it's just that Livewire's attacks are very strong. Also, you have to take into account that the STAS Supes was powered down a lot and, for example, had trouble helping a damaged plane land. The ability of Livewire's attacks to hurt him makes complete sense given the power levels of this version of Superman.

Superman got pretty knocked out in The Enemy Below by an electrocuted manhole cover. Sometimes he seems very weak and at other times quite strong. Kinda inconsistent.

Whoa!Everyone has gone WAY off my original subject. But since electricity is the new one,I'll throw in my 2 cents.
Superman is definitely vulnerable to electricity. However,he's able to take it very well, as he did in the end of the 'Prototype' episode when electricity was going right through him.I think the JL Superman's powers are below what they were in S:TAS.

we need him to be "powered down" to keep the show interesting and the team balanced, which it kind of isn't at this point anyway.

I didn't notice that he was any weaker in this series...the only time I noticed any inconsistancies of his powers was in "Monkey Fun," we know that Superman can land airplanes, so he should have been able to escape Titano's grip a lot easier.

I don't understand. Why is everyone so up in arms about Superman's fluctuating power levels. Doesn't everyone here have days when they feel better or worse?

Okay, we all know by now about Superman being fueled by the yellow sun of Earth. Then explain to me how EONS away on whatever planet "In Darkest Night" was, he still had his powers?
For that matter, how the hell did they get to the planet so fast? I know Superman's lil spaceship had technology to go faster but still.............

I am sure after spending all those years under the yellow sun, Supes can afford to take some time away from earth and remain powerful. But if he loses power without the yellow sun, all a villian has to do is lure him away from Earth and keep Supes fighting long enough to drain his reserves.
As for the time to travel....I dunno...warp speed?

It hasn't been said yet but I'm betting that they use J'onn's technology for the Javelin-7. They probably can travel several times the speed of light. As for Superman having powers in another solar system: How do we know there wasn't a yellow sun in that solar system? An orange sun cuts his powers in half, and a red sun takes his powers away completly...over a period of time...most other suns probably have no effect on him.

I don't think that would work. At least, it would contradict what's been proposed about "Secret Origins," that Superman was too weak to break out of the imprisoning goo because he had been blocked from the sunlight.
I dunno, maybe they have a tanning booth on the Javelin-7 so Supes can recharge (and so Flash keep himself bronzed for the ladies). :D

I took the signs from Secret Origins to mean that the lack of sunlight affected mostly his heat vision but not so much the other powers. Kind of like in Solar Power when Luminus was able to remove Superman's powers by affecting the sun's light. Some of Superman's powers seemed to be affected more than others, at least to me. At one point, he seemed to be mostly jumping instead of flying, but still had a decent amount of strength. And we saw a somewhat gradual loss of powers over the course of just one day. Though Solar Power isn't necessarily canon in JL, so you have to use your own judgement there.
Anyways, I assume that the planets that Superman visits are orbiting a yellow sun unless otherwise stated. That would make a really cool JL episode, though, if they somehow travelled to a red-sunned planet by mistake or abduction, and the team had to watch out for Superman. And we could possibly have a chance to see what Superman is capable of adding to the team even without his powers. As well as seeing what the team can do without him.
