I view it to the left.

I'm actually going to reopen this thread. He was curious on how our post layouts are, not how to view profiles. This thread has happened before here [I think I did it once before I became Moderator].

I prefer left. Putting it on top puts too much information between myself, and the next post I want to read.

What the? There's a difference? Hmm... I guess I just use the default, whatever that is...
Edit: Icky. I just switched to "left view" and I really don't like it like that... so top apparently.

A Few Months before you registered I think, we upgraded to VBulletin 3. And that gave the option of top or left. It was only left before.
The top view just puts a giant empty gray bar between all the posts. It clogs up the page, especially on a wide-aspect monitor. So, left.

i view posts with the info on top. i think it looks more organized that way for some reason. don't ask me to explain. it's complicated

The problem is the bars are of different widths for everyone.
When it on the side the bars don't line up and it makes things look clunky.
When they are horizontal it's hard to even notice the difference in width.
So I'm a topper.

 They're all the same length for me.

A Few Months before you registered I think, we upgraded to VBulletin 3. And that gave the option of top or left. It was only left before. And unless it only did this for me, the upgrade switched everyone's viewing style to top automatically. I can't stand it that way (it eats up too much onscreen real estate), so I switched immediately back to left.

I'm all about the left for pretty much the reason Twage gave. With it on top there is just too much between each post and it bogs down the flow of conversation.

It depends on the browser.
Using Opera I had that alignment problem, but when I switched to mozilla browser it evened up.
I was thinking of investigating why that is, but it's really doesn't seem to be a problem many people would have.

Hmm, this is the second time I tried switching it from top to left... Now I remember why I never left it on left! (Yup bad humor there.)
I actually like the gray bars that seperate the posts. Also with the avatar right above the post, it looks more appealing to me. Dunno why, exactly. Maybe it makes the posts look more like individual email messages or the good ole days of plain text forums/posts.
I am glad that when you make a reply it changes it to displaying the names to the left. It does make reading a bit easier.

Left. I never got used to the avatar and user info on top after the VB upgrade. Plus, every forum I frequent use defaults to the left orientation.

EDIT: I meant the top. I use top. Though left is by no means ugly. I just prefer top.

The top. I tried out to the left after reading this post and I just did not like that way it looked. Having it to the left just makes things seem more crowded for some reason. The top has that nice little division and that's it, but with the left, depending on the length of the user's post, it can become a had distract on the side.
Top for me. It was a little strange at first after the upgrade, but I just got used to it and never went back to left. I like it more on top now.

Heh, I didn't even know we could switch back to left if we wanted; I thought the switch was permanent for everyone.
Anyways, I liked it when it was to the left, but I've gotten so used to the info on the top that it really doesn't matter to me anymore.

I could never stand the top view; I keep it on left.

I just switched it back to remind myself what it was like, and at first I thought, "Wow, this is pretty good, maybe I'll keep this." But then I saw a one-line post, and all that empty space at the bottom looked really weird. Keeping it all at the top prevents that, and I don't feel like it breaks up the flow too much (though I did at first).

I'm all about the left. If I need to know the other guy's post count and location and whatnots, I can flick my eyes over there, but for everyday browsing purposes, I don't need it shoved in my face all up in the middle of my screen.

I actually forgot to switch it back after I made my last post, and I gotta say, it's starting to grow on me all over again. It's still weird to see smaller posts from people like myself who have little or no signature, since it leaves tons of empty space at the bottom. But overall, I like it. I'm not sure which I like more, so I'm going to keep trying the old style a little longer and see which better suits me.

This is conservative oppresion! Where is the 'right' option?
Top. Got used to it after the upgrade. Besides, since it's the default position and I usually browse logged out, so it makes it easier.

I like it on the top. It looks much more organized and professonal.

I tried left. Found it irratating. Now I'm back on top, where I belong...

I'm a left person. I don't get how people do the top version. Actually, I hadn't known about the top version for a while after it came out. I do almost everything the opposite of forum default. I have my post things going from latest to oldest so the last page has the first post.

Uh, I wasn't aware that you could reverse the page order for threads. Hmm guess I'll mess around with that later.

I like it on the left. I don't know why but after using other forums that is just what I am used to.

Wow, I didn't even know there were options for that thing. Nor did I realize that the info placement was different here than in another forum I browse. You would think that I'd notice something like that . . .
Let's try this "left" thing for a while here. Then I can decide.
