Santa Accused of Slapping Child

PFUNGSTADT, Germany (Reuters) - A German Santa Claus came under investigation on Monday for slapping a boy and locking him in a broom cupboard, police said.

The man apparently lost his patience when he was taunted by a group of children who wanted to see what he was wearing under his red Santa Claus outfit, police said.

A nine-year-old boy accused him of slapping his face and locking him in an unlit broom cupboard in the town hall of Pfungstadt in western Germany for a number of minutes.

``He vehemently denies having done that,'' a police spokesman said.

The child's parents filed a legal complaint against the man, aged about 55. Police said they did not plan to detain him. He had been working in a Christmas market. It is unclear whether he would be allowed to continue handing out presents.

Nice to know that the holiday makes even Santa a little cranky. :D

Hey, cut the man some slack! He has to go thru hundreds of different customs check points now to look for possible anthrax contamination in his presents! The man is under ALOT of pressure!

Eh, little snot probably deserved it. Thumbs up for Santa, I say.

Okay, maybe I've just had a few bad experiences with kids. But methinks the story sounds a little lopsided against good ole Santy. I gotta wonder exactly what "taunting" means and don't feel too bad about a kid being locked in a closet for a few minutes. The slap might've been too much, but I dunno how hard he hit him anyways.

Some kids today are little &*#%s.

Some early versions of Santa Claus would whip the bad children instead of only giving out coal...

I think he's just going back to his roots.

Hey, I'm with S. Nick. Kids shouldna't been taunting him, and they deserve the punishment. After all, Santa's not one to be trifled with, and thr guydoing a service to children. The kid was being NASTY to be ruining an experience they should enjoy.

Hmmmm...all good points raised. Perhaps if we could get back to the sort of society where even your neighbor could give a child a swift smack in the fanny with a paddle kids would learn to behave better. There is something to be said for spoil the rod, spoil the child. There's also the phrase, whip him, he shall not surely die.

Nick should have got security to escort him to the security desk and contact his parents, that is what they are there for.
