I cannot believe this show doesn't have an official talkback thread.
Well, at first the idea of a reality show featuring skin-and-bone women clawing at one another to become....*gasp*....a working model seemed really repulsive, but after watching a few episodes of Cycle 3 and seeing Eva claim victory, I knew I wanted to see the next season from the start. So here we are...
Tonight I feel particularily compelled to write because of the horrifically touching/frightening exchange between Tyra and Tiffany. I know what it feels like to be in Tiffany's position, looking a glorious opportunity straight in the eye and feeling like it can't be real and can't be owned by me. We all know what that feels like, when we want something, but dispair to the point of preferring to walk away from it rather than charge boldly towards it. So, for me personally, hearing Tyra tell her "you're going home if you don't do this" put me on edge. Tests. Now. Do it. These are not nice things to have thrown at you coldly. So I could understand why Tiffany walked out berating herself (although I can't understand why she wasn't able to verbally express that berating without leaving out words and making it sound like the competition was what was humiliating her).
And was it just me, or was Tyra's eye make-up making her look even more ferocious than last weeks' previews suggested? The second I saw her about to begin calling out the names, I was scared, waiting for the "BE QUIET!!!" to burst out.
So there it was. Tyra screaming at Tiffany. Tiffany knowing she couldn't defend herself, and not even wanting to, as her face was rubbed in the fact that everything was going her way except for her inner voice. Can't say I was impressed with Tyra airing out the poor girl's dirty laundry on television like that (even though I know every girl's past and upbringing is featured), but I do know never to mess with her. And as for being mad that Tiffany wasn't showing emotion, she was breaking down right at the start of the teleprompter challenge. Those were tears in her eyes, Tyra. I could see them and I wasn't even close to her like you were, proximity-wise.
Simply put, I'm shaken. I think this episode was ultimately more about Tyra's emotional state than anyone elses, and I'm sorry Tiffany was treated like a failure. Every girl who makes it onto that show deserve some minute amount of credit. It is work after all. And clearly everyone is rooting for Michelle, somehow, so it's not like everything was in place for her to win.
Go take a bath and get rid of that eye make-up Tyra...then chat with a therapist about how you feel when your mama yells at you, and why you think it's a good way to say goodbye to someone just because you're disappointed in them.
Tiffany, I respect you for still respecting Tyra and seeing the good behind the bad display of manners. You'll be fine.
Who would have guessed I'd even give a hoot about these ding-bats? Surely not me. But here I am, starting a talkback thread for the show. Don't be afraid, fellow viewers. I know you're out there...
