First tidbit: this article on Disney's plans for "ABC Family":
http://www.usatoday.com/life/enter/tv/2001-12-03-family-channel.htm

Question: what is "family friendly" about the ABC drama "Alias"? From what very little of it I saw, it doesn't seem to fit that label...guess as long as it doesn't show/mention sex or nudity, it's "family friendly" (even if a tad violent)...

Second tidbit: AOL-Time-Warner CEO Gerald Levin to Retire:
http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20011205/bs/aol_time_warner_ceo_7.html

Probably will not affect Kids' WB/Cartoon Network in any way, but seemed worth mentioning...

Third tidbit, reported in today's USA TODAY but can't find a link to on their website, is that NBC's decided to hand over their Sat. morning programming to the Discovery Channel. Not sure what to make of that (besides making it remind me of a few of the syndicated shows my local CBS affiliate airs on Sat. mornings [nature shows] apparently for the "E/I" requirement)...

Finally, on a pointless level:
- Looks like Touchdown Monkey is serving some charitable good (vs. promoting us to "unleash our Mojo")...the Indianapolis Colts is selling game ticket packages (Including free T. Monkey and "Extra Point Kick" Monkey (a smaller version of said doll, and T.M.'s sidekick) dolls thrown in) for the local United Way. Wonder if Mojo Jojo would be pleased with "simians being associated with a worthwhile and useful function for the people who are downtrodden and poor"... or just take the opportunity to rob 'em blind being evil and all... :-)

- As a Christmas gift for myself and to semi-replace my aging-and-growing-rickety VCR, I'm hoping to (at the end of next week) buy a DVD player at long last...likely one of those cut-rate, cheapo $100-or-so models they've been advertising at K-Mart. But it'll still be DVD nonetheless. And I hope to buy at least one DVD film to go with it (alongside renting some from the video store)...will have to decide which one (esp. since I'm not sure if "Back to the Future" has been released to DVD yet)...

I would recommend something to you, but I don't know what you like. "Superman" might be a good pick-up, or possibly a concert disc by a soul or R&B artist. These are just ideas.

Sincerely,

John "Captain Caps" Kilduff

No BTTF yet? Hmph...wonder what they're waiting on (or if they're trying to pull a George "Won't release my best stuff to DVD despite my suppoedly worshipping technology for some bizarre, likely-to-do-with-making-as-much-money-as-possible reason" Lucas)...

"Superman"? Possibly.... a concert DVD isn't what I had in mind, admittedly. Considerations include: "Almost Famous", one of the Powerpuff Girls' DVD's I saw on sale at Borders for $15 (and apparently combined two videotapes' worth of similarly-priced episodes into one disc), "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", some animated movie (not sure which one), "Wayne's World" (if that's been released to DVD), "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" (just released to video, according to the paper), the Beatles' "A Hard Day Night" (IIRC, released to DVD recently), "The Wizard of Oz", "The Birdcage", one volume of the "Star Trek" old TV episode compilations, something special-effects laden (to see DVD at its, um, 13"-TV-set-sized-screen finest :-), and a few others I've probably forgotten about. That or at least *renting* all of these films at some point or other...

Feels somewhat compelled to at least rent "Beverly Hills Cop" on DVD at some point anyway :-)

That's what I've been wondering about Brainatra. They're keeping the "Family" name, but airing shows like "Alias." Hmm...They might as well call it ABC2. It's funny though. Practically nobody is watching their shows on ABC, yet the decide to take some of the shows on ABC that are working and reair them on another network. Does this make any sense? I hate the idea of "repurposing" of shows.

Plus, they're getting rid of children's programming except for three hours. I hope they can somehow get the rights to the other "Peanuts" shows and air them like they used to on the Disney Channel, since they have the rights to the holiday specials.

One guess: American values regarding sex/violence, where heavy doses of violence (mindless and otherwise) are considered more "acceptable" than (mature uses of/attituded towards, at least) sex/sexuality in various aspects of Hollywood entertainment ... though that probably still doesn't explain "Alias" being on "ABC Family"...

Is Nickelodeon still airing the various "Peanuts" shows?

I'm pretty sure they haven't been shwoing them for over a year or so, although I haven't been watching Nickelodeon for a while now.
