Okay, I've had this thought bouncing around in my head for awhile, so its about time to put it out.

Ganon has become, to me, the most intriguing character in the Zelda universe. At first, he seemed the simple villain, a madman obsessed with Power who'll seek out any means to achieve it. LttP added a new dimension - With Agahnim, he became cold, manipulative, and, with the Dark World, almost omnipresent. We saw more of him in Ocarina of Time, his past, his home, and yet we only really run into him twice, and he reveals little.

Wind Waker changed everything entirely. While Link and Zelda have had generation upon generation, we see Ganon as the one who remains from the very beginning. In the final confrontation, he provided a few possible reasons for his actions ("Your gods destroyed you!", "I coveted that wind, I suppose."), but the latter reveals a passive awareness that revenge is not a worthy goal. In fact, his lack of passion and his almost by-the-numbers speech shows he's doing things because he feels he has to do them. "It can only be called fate."

He even tells Link "Do not fear, I will not kill you." This line is prolly what struck me most - This is the Legendary Hero who time and time again sealed, killed, and humiliated him throughout Hyrule's history, and Ganon feels no animosity toward him? Ganon's wish doesn't even seem that monstrous, although his wording is - He wishes Hyrule to be brought forth once again. Under his rule, yes, but there just seems to be more to this than simple power.

The most striking scene was when the King beat him to touching the Triforce, stealing his divine wish away. What does he do? Laughs. I saw this as a sign he realized he was trapped by destiny and he really had no choice in the matter. All his plots and plannings will always come to naught, like some cosmic divine joke. Then, he turns back and plays his dutiful role as the great evil, destined to fight the Legendary Hero once more, and, as always, lose.

Its obvious there is far more to him than the mindless form of him we see in the Oracle games. Does anyone else have an interpretation or some thoughts on the character of Ganon?
