There has been a good amount of talk regarding the next Batman feature film, whether it should be Batman:Year One or some other variation.
What would a good plot/premise for a Superman movie be? If and when it happens, of course.
Would anyone want it darker, lighter, more serious, more like the animated universe continuity or the comics, or even a Batman/Superman live action feature?
Thoughts? Ideas?

Myself, I would take the animated series as my stylistic guide and basically expand upon it in ways that you could only do in live action and with a movie budget.

For example, dispite how craptastic PhantomMenace was, the enviorment work was beautiful. I can see the same thing applied to making a more rich version of the TAS Krypton.

Hmmm, Liam Neison as Jor-El...

I think what I'd try to do is make a 3 movie saga of it. Each movie standing on its own but having the Intergang subplot running through it building to the battle with Darkseid.

Think of it as Last Son of Krypton, Apokolips..NOW, and Legacy as three movies intertwined and expanded upon and made bigger.

(might wanna lose New Genesis and Orion to keep things less cluttered.)

I'd really want to play up the mythical quality.

At any rate, I would want them to take the timeless enviorment approach of the animated series and THE COSTUME MUST BE THERE! I dont mind some small tweaks. darker blues, losing the trunks (though I see nothing wrong with them whatsoever) or a slicker stylized S ala Kingdom Come. But the costume and its colors must be there. None of this Matrix crap.

I'm a bit torn on which continuity I'd like to see followed. Something that would play off of "Legacy" would be pretty interesting, but live action could screw that up. I'd like to see a darker movie overall. Maybe showing Superman looking the way he did in the comics after he was reborn.
The suit would have to be there, like you said MattL. Minor tweaks and changes would be ok, as long as the overall look was similar.
Doing the movie as trilogy might be interesting. Maybe something that would lead to a "Kingdom Come" type scenario.
I don't have a clue as to who the actors portraying the characters should be. Supes/Clark Kent should look the part...no big named stars hired to show a different "interpretation" of the Superman look. Also, with the advances in effects technology, much of what Superman does could look really cool.
I guess my hopes of a darker take on Superman is to explore a different type of Superman, but ending in a "bright" way more typical of Superman.
Who knows? I'd just like to see a well done Superman movie at all.

I dunno. I think a Superman movie should be a trilogy...and focus on classics...Lex Luthor, Braniac, Darkseid, etc...

The only thing wrong with Superman and Superman II were the stupid extra powers they gave him.

Watch them. It's great. I can't imagine how cool that would be on the big screen.

Oh wow!

Actually yeah you could have Brainiac be the villan of the first film since if we were emulating TAS then he's the computer of Krypton so begining with the Last Son of Krypton scenario and ending it with a dramatic big movie showdown between Superman and Brainiac would make a hell of a film.

The whole thing would come to a very nice full circle.

One of the very last scenes being Superman in the artic mountain that will eventually be the fortress of solitude, placing the orb on a pedestal.

I think either a live action version of The World's Finest or Legacy would be great. Although World's Finest is technicaly not a Superman movie, I think both would appeal to fans.

If done properly, would a "Superman Reborn" movie work?

If neither Burton, Smith, or Cage or anyone else from the orignal project were involved.

Also, I'd want to basically clean up that story and lose alot of the BS. The biggest one being Doomsday himself. A one note Hulk imitation with bones sticking out of his butt and about as ridiculous as Cell from DBZ. Throw him out.

In his place put a extremely badass version of Metallo.

Also, the entire defeat of the Justic League just loses all dramatic impact when the Justice League is losers like Booster Gold and such. I mean, who *couldn't* take this version of the League out?(Who would care)

Have it be the iconic 7 or better yet, the animated JL line up.

Also, lose all the crap Jurgens crap and do basically TAS style Luthor.

Lose the whole Mongul and Coast City thing.

Instead, you could actually have Brainiac in there and this would be one time where having three villans in a picture would actually make sense.

Metallo is the product of both Brainiac and Luthors science. Only the deal goes bad when Brainiac basically begins to assimilate Metropolis and the world. (Borgesqe yeah, but it'd work for Brainiac. Besides, he was doing cybernetic evil loooong before it became cool.)

Also, lets lose the false Supermen thing, but keep it around as a bit of a gag. You actually have guys on the street in S shirts claiming to be Superman. :p

No Superboy (or Supergirl unless you were gonna use something like the Kara In-Ze version but that would weigh down the movie with too much backstory).

With John Henry, I'd actually put him in the Prof. Hamilton role and you could have him feeling the need to try and carry on for Superman without having him wear a cape and all. But yes, he would get a little camera time in armor and weilding a hammer.

Forget the Cyborg. Sorry, but I didn't fear the oh-so colassal aura of dah dah daaaah! Hank Henshaw....uh, yeah. Besides, we've got our villan quotent more than met already.

As for Superman come back. Okay, stay with me on this one.

Have it be *Lex* that figures out that Supermans body still has solar energy, and have it be him the brings Superman back.

Basically, Lex has gotten in way over his head and now has to bring his worst enemy that he went through all the trouble of killing in order to bail his butt (and the city he wanted to rule inthe first place) out of the fire.

One stipulation about this movie though is that it'd only have resonance if it were a *sequal* to a movie that already restablished Superman in movies.

Anyway, thats my 2 cents plus a buck 50.

I think I liked Kevin Smith's "Superman Lives" script that he wrote a few years back. This would be who I would cast:

Superman.....Dean Cain

Lois Lane.....Sandra Bullock

Jimmy Olsen.....Justin Whalin

Perry White.....Lane Smith

Lex Luthor.....John Shea

Brainiac.....Patrick Stewart

Doomday.....????

Cat Grant.....Charlize Theron
