Was Angelica's personality toned down in the newer eps of the Rugrats (1997-2004)? If so, why?

Yeah I think she was toned down. Arlene Klasky didn't like her so much. But I think the '97 version of Angelica all the way to before Kimi came was the best version of her. She wasn't mean to her friends, she was just cunning and crafty.

But when Kimi came... ugh... All she did was yell all the time.

Her personality improved in the more current 2nd season AGU episodes and the like as well.

I still thought that Angelica was still mean spirited to the babies until the last two seasons of Rugrats. Since there were so many characters in the final two season, that most of the episodes the babies tried to figure out the crazy things in the world instead of Angelica telling them. It wasn't very good and I thought they finally been biten by the shark.

Angelica making stuff up for her friends was a one of Rugrats funniest blueprints. Just like they always say "The villains make the show". And separating Angelica from the other Rugrats and placing her in that horrid Preschool Daze spin offf was a bad marketing strategy from the start.

When Angelica grows up she becomes less and less bossy and mean. When she was 3 she was rude to everybody, Kimi or no Kimi!

I don't know... I really don't like Kimi in the All Grown Up shows....she's not much of a major charachter....kinda boring and stuff....

I'm still waiting for an AGU episode that centers on Kimi and for once doesn't have anything to do with her brother. Kimi's character can't really function well without Chuckie. I've always wondered how flat a 1 dimensional character can get but is it possible to have a half dimensional character?

I thought the episode where she was in the Japanesse episode was the "Kimi" focused one.

Personally I'm of the opinion that Kimi and Dil (the two charecters that really caused Rugrats to jump the shark) are now the most interesting charecters in All Grown up. I especially love the way Dianne Quan and Tara STrong do their roles respectivly. I haven't always liked everything about Rugrats/All Grown up but that's one thing I don't think I can fault.

Actually Memoirs of a Finster still had Chuckie's influence on Kimi at that episode. Kimi wasn't only exploring her Japanese heritage but was also faced with a dilema to choos between her original roots or her new found Finster heritage. Chazz did not symbolize the aspect of Kimi now being a Finster in that episode but rather Chuckie did.

AFAIK, Dil is the best improved rugrat on AGU. He really has a personality that helps him stand out among the other rugrats the same way that each rat does.
Tommy = leader type, Chuckie = dorky nice guy, Angelica = popular mean girl, Dil = wierd kid, etc...

Kimi's personality was never changed. She's still a cloned female version of Tommy and as long as she's hangging around her brother, we're never gonna see her given a personality where she can hold her own with the other rats.
