I was looking at some pennies today and spotted a wheat penny (pennies from around the 1940's that had wheat on the flip side.) When I was a kid, I thought my mom always called them WEAK pennies and I remember taking the pennies and trying to bend and break them because I swore I heard my mom say they were weak pennies!
I also used to think that the jingle on TV for Pure Cane Sugar was singing, "Hurricane Sugar."
Anybody else remember any words or common phrases they heard wrong and perhaps took wrong?

I remember my mom telling me once that I took a lot of change, sat on the ground, and separated the pennies from everything else. She asked me what I was doing, and I said, "I'm separating the dirty money from the clean money."
I guess that counts as a misunderstanding. :p

The first time my mother mentioned "Monty Python".....well, you can probably guess. I thought he was really a python. I asked my mom, "Why would anyone want to watch a snake?", and according to her, I said it quite sincerley.
Does that count?

I used to think that "faucet" was "flauset".
My brother used to think that "The Little Mermaid" was "The Little Wormaid". He also used to think that "zero" was a time. After my sister and i would tell our mom what time we wanted to be woken up, he would always say "wake me up at 0."
I'll come back w/ more as i think of them.

I called potatoes "tutus". My parents told me I once yelled out to a waitress at a restaurant: "Hey, lady, where's my tutus?" :o My sister used to call restaurant's "frefrants".

once when i was little, my aunt played smells like teen* spirt for me in the car, at the end of the song when kurt kobain is yelling "write it down" i thought he was saying "money yah yah" so when ever i wanted to listen to nirvana i'd say "i want to listen to money ya ya" it took my aunt a long time to figure out what i meant.
ill think of some more stories later
*still not understanding the words to the song........

I always thought meunster cheese was Munster cheese. And Neopolitian ice cream was Napolean ice cream (heck, I know some adults who still believe it's called Napolean ice cream!)
And Joker, that's Smells Like Teen Spirit. Either that was a typo or you're still misunderstanding it!

To baby Joe:
Popsicle = Plokka
Donut = Dough-see-dough (like the saying from square-dancing? I know the spellling is off but I figured I'd spell it so you could understand)
Grilled Cheese = Girl Cheese ( I didn't think it was actually from girls, that's just what I called it. Silly me.)

Yeah, I used to think it was girl cheese too, which also reminds me of a time my sister got a card for my uncle and had me sign it too. I saw that she had signed it, "your niece, Lisa." and I thought she wrote "NICE" and I thought, well, I am nice too...so I wrote "Your nice Jeff" but I spelled it like she did. Yeah, that got some laughs at my embarassment!

Be sure and hold onto those pennies, cause they're worth money these days. What are they worth?...One cent!
Also, speaking of Church, I had a friend named Chris that wanted to take the "T" of off the local Church of Christ sign.

I don't remember anything from myself, but my brother would call pretzels "prinzles" and penguins "pinkwans". My sister would call yougart "ogabow", I guess that's how you'd spell it. the only thing I can remember of myself was calling those little honey cakes "bumble bee cake"....

He wasn't far from wrong. Midnight, in military parlance, is zero hundred hours.
Apparently I've always had an independent and slightly selfish streak. Once I attempted to order for myself at McDonald's, but not being able to enunciate right then, my request for a hamburger and fries came out "boo-goo and flies".
