Over at Comix-Fax there is an interview up with Jim Kreuger that reveals he has a Spider-Man story coming up that will have major implications on the Spider-mythos. Like I said in the subject line there are major spoilers in here. You've been warned. Here it is:

Krueger: Well, only that Trevor Harsine is now doing the artwork, and I don't know if it's going to show up in Spectacular, or if it's just going to be a special, in and of itself.

I can't wait for this story to be out, because it is a totally in- continuity story, and it features... Peter Parker revealing his secret identity to J. Jonah Jameson.

Comixfan: Wow, you really just opened up about that. [laughs]

Krueger: Yeah. [laughs]

It's already been bought and everyone is into it, everyone likes the story. If things happen the way I want it to happen, that will be the cover... Spider-Man taking off his mask, and saying 'Mr. Jameson, Peter Parker is Spider-Man.'

Comixfan: That will certainly drastically change the Spidey-verse...

Krueger: Well, you'll have to see it to believe it, but I'm really proud of it, and I think there are things in it that for the Spider- Man mythos, and for the Spider-Man origin, and how Peter Parker relates to all the people in his life- that he has kept his identity secret to protect them- I think that there are things that are said in here that are so important, and so vital to his character, that I will really be excited to see it out there, and to see what people think.

Now, there are things that I am not giving away, and how it affects the Spider-Man mythos, you're to have to read the whole story to get, but it's not like an imaginary story, not like he dreams of revealing his identity, he really does it, and Jameson totally... well, [Parker] does it, what happens after that is stuff for other writers in the future. But the way it happens, Marvel is very excited about.

And I can't reveal yet, but I've got a bunch of new things going on at Marvel too.

First off, the first line about this subject was forgotton in the quote Spider-Man posted, so I'll complete it [seeing as is has me a bit confused]; the Spider-Man topic is started with this line:

Comixfan: Speaking of Marvel, has there been any word on your Spectacular Spider-Man story? Now, to continue with my post ;)

Wow.
This sounds pretty exciting, hopefully it's done in a good way. But seeing as Jim says everyone has bought in to it and is excited, I'll trust that for now.
I was under the impression that Spectacular Spider-Man was being cancelled after Jenkins[?], ending with issue #27. Also, on Marvel.com nothing is listed for SSM the month after that issue. I sure hope this story doesn't appear in SSM, because I haven't prolonged my subscription for that title, seeing as it's being cancelled and all.

About the story: this will definitely have interesting consequences. We've probably thought about it all before; What would JJJ's reaction be? How would his attitude towards Peter change? How would his attitude towards Spider-Man change?
I do think it's time for JJJ to find out. He's been in the comics since day 1, and as I think about it, his character hasn't really grown as much as most of the supporting cast [and Peter himself] has. After 40+ years, he's still all about yelling in the office at everyone, and trying to make Spidey look as bad as possible.
Peter revealing himself to Jonah could finally pave the way to developing Jonah's character more. I mean, JMS did the same with Aunt May, and she's better than she ever was before JMS. Wouldn't it be great if Jonah was also improved that much?

Also, these stories where Jonah 'almost' finds out [most recently in MK:SM, but Peter tricked him into thinking John was Spidey] and where he 'supposedly' finds out [we're made to believe that; most recently being a few years back when it was insinuated that he removed Spidey's mask while he was K.O.]] are getting tedious, as each time I find myself hoping that he does find out, but he never does in the end.

Maybe this is a prologue to [according to some rumours I've heard]
Peter making his identity public as a consequence of joining the Avengers [after all, he will be living in the Avengers mansion, along with MJ and Aunt May. Wouldn't friends and relatives wonder?], as most of the team has a public identity.
Maybe Peter wants to reveal it to Jonah personally or something, instead of Jonah just hearing about it. I dunno, I'll see..

Anyways, I can't wait to read this! :)

I'm sure this will be as influential as Spidey's organic web shooters...

And... didn't this happen sometime recently, but Jonah just blew it off as a joke? This seems familiar...

I really hope this isn't real. I've heard the rumors that spoiler *** Spiderman will be revealing his secret identitiy to the public. It would be hard not to living with the avngers and all. But one of the things i've always loved aboout spiderman is the whole scret identity thing. He always tried so hard to keep it so his friends and family wouldn't be hurt. By revealing it to J.J.J. it ruins everything. J.J. will probably put it front page of the daily bugle. They're ruining spiderman! If it really happens this could be one of the worst spiderman stories ever written. Jim Kreuger dont do this. The hype will be great adn it will be a very good selling comic but you are ruining the essential roots of Spiderman. You cant reveal his secret identity to J.J. it just wont work! please stop this before it starts!

I kinda like this idea, although I wish they'd do it with individual people like JJJ and the Torch, also I wish they would reveal whether or not Robbie knows.
