Source: MOON PHASE.
The temporary name of the new show is
舞-HiME ネクストステージ (仮) (http://www.sunrise-inc.co.jp/my-hime/) , or My HiME Next Stage.
Apparently the new main character showed up at the end of season 1.

Cool, and yes that was very fast. Any mention of the original cast returning or the plot for the sequel, Go-chin?

Yeah, that was fast.
I felt like a dirty old man watching that show, but was one of last season's best shows. Apparently the ratings agreed.
Well, here's the obligatory fanboy wish list:
Don't reuse too many old characters; only reuse use the younger HiME's, the new 'director' and KOS-M^H^H^H^H,Miyu. Try not to rehash too much old material from the HiME star saga and stick with the action comedy mix. Make sure the writing dosen't suck.
In other words, don't make a cheap knock off, foo.
Oh yeah, put the first season on Toonami, some good editing here, a re-write there, maybe a couple of reanimated scenes and I can see ratings gold.

It'd work better on Adult Swim... But as always... I'll see how they handle Naruto before I give my final judgement on that. It's pretty light hearted for a while but it takes some very dark turns. But at a glance... The religious stuff alone will keep it off Toonami and since it wont sell toys most likely (though I'm sure some merchadise would be nice, or a game for that matter) it'd be another Inuyasha / s.Cry.ed situation for Adult Swim. Which is fine by me.
Glad there's a sequel. When's it coming? Hopefully soon.
But what I really want is another season of BECK. They never should have stopped at 26. Maybe they could have some OVA's.

*ed note* spoilers below, if you haven't finished the series don't look*
Hate to say it, but I probably won't watch. For awhile I thought Mai Hime would do something different, but then it fell in line with the other girls-with-special-powers shows by delivering a perfectly happy ending. Not that I hate that, but to do it they had to pull a sudden, unexplained Dues Ex Machina to undo everything bad that happened over the final 12 or so episodes and make everything all right again. They didn't even have the guts to kill off Mikoto even though she supposedly got stabbed saving Mai and Tate. Nope, they pulled the "oh wait she's weak and not dead after all" trick that's been done 1000 times before. They even resurrected Miyu and Alyssa for no good reason. I really don't understand Miyu, she basically killed herself to do whatever it is that she did that restorted everyone else's mechs. She's also a cyborg, not a Hime...Alyssa kind of logically follows since she was technically a Hime and so maybe her child was restored along with everyone else's, which I guess is supposed to allow her to live. Or something. But there's no reason Miyu should still be there. Its not just the ending either; in episode 15 they "kill off" Mai in dramatic fashion (you see her EMPTY SHOE in OUTER SPACE among the wreckage of that satellite for God's sake), only to have her walk into class at the beginning of the very next episode has if nothing happened at all. Oh and apparently we're supposed to swallow that Kagatsuchi (sp?) wasn't damaged at all after that little escapade either.
None of it makes much sense, but its there because in My Hime no one is allowed to die and no one's suffering is allowed to mean anything. Now I admit, there were points where I did like the show, but this reality just kills the joy. Its terrible for the characters to go through what they did, but its even worse to see the drama the show labored to build up so completely wasted. Now all those powerful sorrowful, dramatic moments aren't powerful anymore, they're rendered unimportant and trivial.
I don't really know where they go from here either. The source of the Hime festivel and that whole twisted scenario is gone; I don't know how they build up an overall plot as potentially dark and intriguing as the last one. And even if they do I don't trust them to not cop out like they did with this one.

This is a late April Fool's joke right? I mean nothing personal against anyone, and the episodes I saw were enjoyable, but it is not a series I would want a sequel to.
What happened to the days when a series that was 1 season long stayed 1 season long? Now many shows are getting multiple seasons/series when they shouldn't. Yu-Gi-Oh! should have ended with 224. Full Metal Panic was fine with only 24 episodes. Galaxy Angel jumped the shark after season 1. Macross did not need Zero, or even 7. Ghost in the Shell had a second season, which I am not sure if it is worthy of one as I have not seen it yet.

I like happy endings so it was refreshing after all those bad things happening. Though the cheapening of death was a pitty...
Okay, if they can get around the religious stuff then this show could air on Toonami. The ending proves this.

Yes, I did, and it was an awesome series, especially episodes 15+. I just loved how you think you knew how things were going to continue, then bam, it does a complete twist on it.
Like I said, it does not need a sequel. The ending was perfect, why ruin it there?
Now if it was called Hime Sentai...just kidding. :D

Nagi: Things may have even gotten a bit foggier.

That's why we need a sequel.
Besides, we need some good Natsuki x Shizuru scenes.

How about some Akira X Mai just to make poor Takumi die instantly from the sight of it?
No... Akira is too young as well.

I fail to understand why anyone would want to air a 1:30am otaku fanservice show on Toonami.1:30 A.M.?
I concede.
This is somewhat ironic considering Anime fan-service for a mature male is about as arousing as mowing the lawn. And less lesbian stuff would be nice. That gets kinda creepy after a while. I have doubts whether My HiME will fit all that well into the current AS lineup, but now it makes sense. I think the show would work much better with a much wider audience if there was far less fanservice, but candy and nuts, dammit. :(
None of it makes much sense, but its there because in My HiME no one is allowed to die and no one's suffering is allowed to mean anything. Because kids these days demand PERTINENT SOCIAL COMMENTARY, Dostoyevsky-esque character development, and of course abhor any shows masquerading as product placement. It's Dostoevsky, LB. :D
While understanding your frustration, I'm happy the show didn't have an dreary ending, because that wouldn't be terribly original or moving either. Most action comedies, no matter how dark, end happily.
I don't really know where they go from here either. The source of the Hime festival and that whole twisted scenario is gone; I don't know how they build up an overall plot as potentially dark and intriguing as the last one. And even if they do I don't trust them to not cop out like they did with this one. It was pretty clear the producers opted for the 'cop out' when Alyssa and M.I.Y.U.'s orgins were revealed.
There's quite a bit more story there, like what is the true origin of the HiME star and what forces are behind it. You can guess the writers will have to work much harder to keep things interesting, but that's what they get paid to do.
Besides the girl in the closing, is that girl in the church another new HiME? Seems a little too coincidental.

No, I did not see her in that manner. It is just that the girl (can't think of her name right now) is Yukino's best friend, it has nothing to do with the type of love of lovers.
The only one that was truly lesbian was Shizuru.

Go watch the conversation they have right before Shizuru takes out Haruka.
Shizuru may be the more straightforward one, but Yukino is definitely one too.

Wow, Just watched the s1 finale and it was really cool. Never expected Mai-Hime to go out that way with all the depressing stuff that had been happening and even though I'm not a big happy ending fan I absolutely loved the ending.
although I'm not sure a second season is needed too much. I'll still look forward to it.
The new girl looks like a mix of Akane and Mai.
