Round 10 will begin tomorrow evening, at any time after 4 pm (note: not AT 4 pm... any time after 4 pm... which means I can post it any time Thursday night that I wanna so Nyah! :p)

In preparation for the challenge, both teams must prepare their wagers... and, to make things interesting... wager what you want. However much, or however little you'd like... just keep in mind my many fun ways of scoring the challenges :)

Wagers must be submitted to me, in some manner of posting, be it PM, Posting, IM, Smoke Signals, Sign Language, Da Vinci Code, whateve; by 4 pm tomorrow.

Alrighty gang! Round 10 is on!

Here's the wagers:

Flock of Molegulls: $1
Spongebob Molepants: $8000

Now... as you know by now... this is a math challenge... so, in keeping with the theme... here's how the payouts will work:

Correct Answers: X
Incorrect Answers: 2x-squared - 250x + 2

X= Wager

Both teams are to submit answers. You have until Sunday night to submit them to me... use your time wisely!!!

Here's the challenge:

1. Which of the following numbers below becomes a common English word when converted into Roman Numerals?
a) 28
b) 54
c) 626
d) 1,009
e) 2,376
f) 3,128

2. Grandpa Jones has four grandchildren. Each grandchild is precisely one year older than the next oldest one. One year Jones noticed that if you add the ages of his four grandchildren, you would get his age. How old is grandpa Jones?
a) 76
b) 78
c) 80

3. In a 10-kilometer race, Alex beat Burt by 20 meters and Carl by 40 meters. If Burt and Carl were to run a 10-K race, and Burt were to give Carl a 20-meter head start, who would probably win?

4. Sue Perstition was born on Friday the 13th. She recently celebrated one of the birthdays below on Friday the 13th. Which one was it?
a) 10th
b) 20th
c) 30th
d) 40th
e) 50th
f) 60th

5. Define the "letter class" of a whole number as the number of letters in that number. For example, the letter class of 16 (SIXTEEN) is 7, the letter class of 25 (TWENTY-FIVE) is 10, and so on. There is only one number between 1 and 5,000 that is the ONLY representative of it's letter class. Care to find it?

6. Place the numbers one through nine in the blanks below so that BOTH multiplications are true
__ __ X __ = __ __ __ = __ __ X __

7. A Cereal company places prizes in its cereal boxes. There are four different prizes distributed evenly over all the boxes that the company produces. On average, how many boxes of cereal would you need to buy before you collected a complete set?

8. Only once in American history has there been a decade in which four of the years were prime numbers. Can you find it?

9. A customer brought four items to the casheir of the 7-11 convenience store. "That'll be $7.11," the clerk said. At first, the customer thought it was a joke. "Ha Ha! Seven-eleven. I get it." But the clerk was serious. "No, really. I multiplied the prices of the four items you gave me, and I cam up with $7.11."
You multiplied them?" the customer asked. "You're supposed to ADD them, you know."
"I know" said the clerk, "but it doesn't make any difference. The total is still $7.11."
What were the prices of the four items?

10. Imagine a pasture that is just big enough to feed 11 sheep for a total of 8 days. It turns out that if we reduce the number of sheep to 10, they would be able to eat for 9 days. Theoretically, how long could two sheep last?

11. Bert and Ernie take turns multiplying numbers. First Bert chooses the number 4. Ernie multiplies it by 4 to get 16. Bert multiplies that by 4 to get 64. Ernie multiplies that by 4 to get 256.
After going back and forth several times, one of them comes up with the number 1,048,576. Who came up with that number?

12. Lucy Sly, a brilliant detective, has tracked some pirates to their island base. In their secret cave, she finds the pirate chief with three chest of treasure. One chest contains pieces of iron, one chest pieces of gold, and the third has a mixture.
In return for a chance to escape, the pirate chief offers Lucy one chest to take away with her. All three chests are labeled - IRON, GOLD, and MIXTURE. But, he warns her, all the labels are on the wrong chests.
"Then I can't tell which is which," She replies.
"I will take one object out of any of these chests and show it to you-although, you may not look inside."
Which chest would you choose to see an object from? How would you be sure you got the chest of gold?

13. Joe bought a bag of apples on Monday, and at a third of them. On tuesday, he ate half of the remaining apples. On wednesday, he looked in his bag and found he had only two apples left. How many did he have to start?

14. As you can see, each of the following three alphametics involves a famous name. Unfortunately, only one of these equations is possible. Can you determine which one has a solution?
a) MARY + TYLER = MOORE
b) JOYCE + CAROL = OATES
c) JAMES - EARL = JONES

Girlfriend thing is easier said then done...the problem is not finding a female, the problem is finding a female who doesn't tackle me and cause me to fall down a flight of stairs....and when they do it in hordes...it can cause deep hurting
