View Full Version : Smallville...A Waste Of Time?

I'm starting to get to the point where I'm thinking...this show's just a waste of time. We already know what's gonna happen...so why are we watching it again? Besides, each episode is practically the same thing anyway...it's starting to get old. I'm starting to despise Kryptonite and all the stupid things it does. And I want them to make an episode that focuses on Jor-El and Lara. Truth is, I think that Smallville has "grounded" (Pun intended) Clark way to much. He's almost helpless in this show. And I think that sucks. The same formula happens over and over again. Anybody else tired of it? I sure am hoping they'll get rid of the Kryptonite for a while...it's okay to have SUPER villains, but when every one of them gets there powers from the same source all the time, it starts to get rediculous. Who's with me...

I'm riding out the rest of the season first to see how things go. They are going to be getting away from the villian of the week theme. They basically did that to have a vehicle for Clark to discover new powers, but they are going to shift where he uses his powers to assit and show his abilities in other ways than fighting high school mutants.
I don't think that this show is necessarily locked into doing things the old school DC way, so there may be aspects we really don't know where they are going to go. This seems to be more of a reimagining of the Superman mythos than anything we've seen before. I don't forsee this series taking the route of the comic books, necessarilly.

Be patient JLL, like you, I've been bored by all of the villains thus far. The main reason I'm watching is because of the character interactions which I think is great so far. Luckily the writers are aware of the formula they're using. There's going to be some more krypto villains, but that should change in the future. I'm thinking there might be more of a shift away from the formula around the 14th episode or so.

If it's any consolation, it doesnt look like next week's ep doesnt focus on a krypto villain. Instead some strange unknown "level 3" in Luthor's plant, maybe involving Kryptonite research?

That's sounds neat. The only episode I really didn't think was the same thing was the unique episode "Hourglass." I think that's what it was called. About a guy who falls into a Kryptonite infested lake...which makes the lake like some sort of "Fountain of youth." Sure, it was involving Kryptonite (again) but still, at least this guy didn't get any powers for a change...he just got young.

I watch it because besides JL, it's the only superhero fare I get to see on the Boob Tube that isn't a rerun. Besides, it isn't that bad. Probably the best live action superhero portrayal (I know he isn't exactly a superhero, but he saves people w/ superpowers) I've seen. Give it time. When it becomes overtly campy, I'll cease to watch it. ;)

Cellular phones make Smallville special? You should prolly check out 24, there's even reviews raving about the major use of cell phones in that show.

I know that the "villain a week" as it had been named does it old, but then again, haven't there only been about 6 episodes so far out of 23 or something? It's not fair to shoot something down before it even gets off the ground. When the season is over...and it sucks, then sure! lol. And yeah, for such a small town as it is, you'd think he'd have died already, or be weaker. I mean, there kyptonite in the ground, in the water, around people's necks, being mistaken for ordinary rocks....you'd think the air would have a hint of kyptonite radiation in it at least. It's amazing. But then again, it's a comic and a story, and it wouldn't do for the hero to die so soon now would it? And yeah, the next new ep looks intriguing with it involving Luthor's business. But, it did look like there was another kryptonite villain if I'm not mistaken, just that him being affected by kyptonite is somehow tied to Level 3.
