Do you have any songs that when you hear them, you can't help but smile or feel good?

I've a few that just make me feel wonderful while listening to them (odd mix, but eh):

Why Don't You & I - Santana (with Kroeger singing lead)
Knees Of My Bees - Alanis Morissette
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen
Rainy Days Never Stays - Brilliant Green
It's My Time - Martina McBride
3 x 5 - John Mayer
Natural Woman - Carole King
Rock Show - Blink 182
Get Lost by Troubled Hubble
Hell Yes by Beck
My Doorbell by White Stripes
Paper Bag -- Anna Nalick
Closer -- Nine Inch Nails (ehehe, shush)
My Best Friend -- Weezer
Pump It Up -- Elvis Costello
New World by Round Table
Kiss Wo Shiyou - YUKI

So are there any songs that make you happy?

YMCA always makes me VERY happy. I am also fond of Build Me Up Buttercup, Do The Loco-Motion, and Caribbean Amphibian from Sesame Street.

Beyond the Sea and Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head do it for me too.

Anything by Morning Musume. Hm...but if I were to pick out one of their specific songs, I'd say "Love Revolution". The video is awesome.

Most of the time I only listen to upbeat, optimistic music. I just prefer it. But, songs that always make me truly feel great include:

S Club 7 - Love Train
Myra - Miracles Happen
Yes - Run with the Fox
Katrina and the Waves - Walking on Sunshine
Association - Windy
S Club 7 - Bring it All Back
Petula Clark - Don't Give Up
Spongebob Squarepants - Ripped Pants
The Pirates - Spongebob Squarepants Theme (Movie Version)
Hope 7 - I Want Everything
Hampton the Hamster - The Hampter Dance
Essex Green - Everything is Green
Kylie Minogue - I Believe in You

And, during the Holidays, some Christmas songs never fail to make me smile broadly, such as:
Hilary and Haylie Duff - Same Old Christmas
Bob Rivers - All You Need is Elves
Hilary Duff - Santa Claus Lane (North Pole Remix)

Can be just about anything, really, especially if I'm in a good mood to begin with. Even some songs that others might hear and think are just loud and annoying make me happy because I appreciate the instrumental aspect of it so much.

Some that make me happy every time, though are:

"Farm Fiddlin'" by Zakk Wylde
"Ya Yo Gakk" by Steve Vai (can't recommend this one highly enough!)
"Bird Dance" by Borislav Mitic
"Concerto" by Cacophony
"Who Me?" by Buckethead
"Mabel's Fatal Fable" by Jason Becker
Lots of other songs by Santana, Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Deep Purple, Joe Satriani, Racer X, Buckethead, etc, etc...

Hound Dog and a little less conversation by Elvis presley

And I know this is not a song but Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin always makes me happy whenever that is on.

"She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5 - that song seems to have been written to describe my relationship with my best friend. I love her more than anyone else in this world.

Any thing by Dave Matthews BandOoh that reminds me, Crash Into Me by Dave Matthews is one for my list. I have no idea why, as I really don't care for anything else by him, but yeesh I love that song. Also Mad Season by Matchbox 20 (among others that I don't feel like listing right now 'cause I've got a headache).

This song always cheers me up, and no, I'm not kidding. I even recorded it in my MD Player.

When the way of the world has got you down and you wanna end your life,
Bills to pay, a dead-end job, and problems with the wife,
But don't throw in the towel 'cause there's a place just down the block,
Where you can drink your misery away...

At Flaming Moe's (Let's all go to Flaming Moe's)
When liquor in a mug, can warm you like a hug,
Happiness is just a Flaming Moe away,
Happiness is just a Flaming Moe away.

Boy, am I weird. :p

Love the original by Bobby Darin. And I love Nick Cave. But I can't say that I've ever popped on one of his tunes as Happy Music.
Well, considering that the first song I listed is about a man born with a physical deformity who commits suicide, I think I established a twisted emtional set from the get-go.

And to be pedantic, the Bobby Darin version, which I don't terribly like myself, wasn't the original, the Brecht version, which sounds delightfully like a cranky old German man on a carousel, is probably the original. I probably should have listed it seperately as Die Moritat von Mackie Messer.

"One Week" - gotta love those references
"Intergalaticplanetary", Moby's "Southside", Werid Al's "The Saga Begins", The Star Wars theme, the Star trek movie theme, any song written to the tune of ODE TO JOY.

Oh yes, Stephenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride"

I believe that since the singer (Tycho from PennyArcade, e-mail him about the great music he stopped making) of the band has told me himself in an e-mail that he doesn't own his own music and got them from mp3.com, I can post this here:
The Fine Print - Strawberry Jam (http://textfrown.net/music/Aria/04%20The%20Fine%20Print%20-%20Strawberry%20Jam.mp3)

Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees and Muse - Butterflies and Hurricanes were so beautiful to me that listening to them made all my pain go away..

They don't do that anymore cause I've listened to them too many times.

Songs that make me happy because they are happy...
The Cure - Doing the Unstuck
Smashing Pumpkins - Today
The Killers - Mr. Brightside (well musically it is..)
Bright Eyes - Road to Joy

It is only fair to bring back this thread..........this song is from
Land Before Time...."If We Hold On Together"
Artist - Diana Ross
Music and Words ----James Horner and Will Jennings

It always makes me happy and brings hope into my heart..Stuart

Don't lose your way
With each passing day
You've come so far
Don't throw it away
Live believing
Dreams are for weaving
Wonders are waiting to start
Live your story
Faith hope and glory
Hold to the truth
In your heart

If we hold on together
I know our dreams
Will never die
Dreams see us through
To forever
Where clouds roll by
For you and I

Souls in the wind
Must learn how to bend
Seek out a star
Hold on to the end
Valley, mountain
There is a fountain
Washes our tears
All away
Worlds are swaying
Someone is praying
Please let them come
Home to stay

If we hold on together
I know our dreams
Will never die
Dreams see us through
To forever
Where clouds roll by
For you and I

When we are out there
In the dark
We'll dream about the sun
In the dark
We'll feel the light
Warm our hearts
Everyone

If we hold on together
I know our dreams
Will never die
Dreams see us through
To forever
As high
As souls can fly
The clouds roll by
For you and I

Maybe we can post as many happy songs, as sad ones?

Almost any upbeat song with an arena rock edge and lots of organ jamming (Like "Smokin" by Boston)! I feel a burst of joy whenever I hear "Holiday" by The Outlaws or "You Who Needs To Know" by 707.
Here is what "You Who Needs To Know" sounds like:

Sollen wir einen Faden für deutsche Dinge machen?
Sorry, the only German I know is "Guten tag, kinder schweinen!" But the original does sound rather flegmmy like the man who plays the organ on the sidewalk with the monkey wanting money.

(Some of) Mr. Toon's Songs of Happiness
"Happiness" from You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown
"Lean On Me"
"We Can Work It Out"- Stevie Wonder (cover)

I didn't read any of the posts in this thread before posting mine, and I doubt any of my selections are repeated.

"Hold On For One More Day"--Wilson Phillips
The Footloose theme
The Chrono Cross soundtrack
That one Barenaked Ladies song where they talk really really fast
99 Luft Balloons
"We Will Be Invincible" by Pat Benatar

Now you know I'm a freak, but at least MY songs are actually HAPPY-SOUNDING.

Happiest song about accepting the fact that all your friends willl all die some day, ever.

I would like to offer up Good Vibrations (both 2004 and original versions) by Brian Wilson, Time of the Season by the Zombies and Jesus Christ Was an Only Child by Modest Mouse.

Egads, how could I have forgotten that one? It's probably the happiest piece in classical music!

If one listens to this piece, a few times...Honestly, intently, with heart, it is easy to conclude, it is the happiest piece of music ever written, by anyone.

My experience with it, was it was it the ending music of a TV show I saw in 55 or 56.(called" Our Mr. Sun", directed by a minor director, Frank Capra, with some animation, by a little known team from Warners,,Jones and Freeling)

.No I didn't know the name of the writer of the music, all I remember is feeling great about listening to the music. Twelve years later, I found out who wrote that, why, and what it was...
..I too had forgotten about it in this thread..I know very vew few listen to classical, and few would listen to this...It is German, get a translation so you know what they are singing and give it a chance,,Listen a few times.. and you too will fall in love with this composer, his story, and much of his music. And the last movement of the 9th in particlar.....Yea, it is old music,, but it is as new as today.(and it has withstood the test of time.).thank you Sharklady for bringing it up.............Stuart

You're always surprised no one's mentioned The Flaming Lips :p . Okay, okay, "She Don't Use Jelly" is a Lips classic that can make any mood happy. Not all of their songs are about the raw realities of the world now, are they?

On a side to supress my jpop sappiness, "True" by Shimokawa Mikuni has such an empowering feel to it. I don't know why, but I really love this corny little song. Then there's the happiness installing "Southern Light Rollerama" by Mujaji. This sweet 3 minute track conveys such a floaty feeling to me**
