By now I am sure all of you had read the Bruce Timm interview on the newsboard. If not scurry over there first!
Well, we finally found out what the plans for the next Batman Beyond movie was going to be...CATWOMAN! I don't know if Nightwing would have played into the mix of things, but I am so seriously disappointed that our hopes of seeing that movie pretty much went down the drain. How great would that have been?

Considers another "Nooooooooooo" post, but figures to many of those will get one banned...and that wouldn't be cool.

In the new Bruce Timm interview (thanks, Dick Grayson!) Timm was asked about unfinished work on Batman Beyond and, rather go the route of talking about Nightwing (which we've all been speculating about here), he offered up this little nugget:
"I could easily go back and do some more B-Beyonds, sure. There was this one DTV story idea that Glen Murakami and I were toying with involving Catwoman, but it was pretty dark....I mean PITCH BLACK. So, after what happened with ROTJ, I don't think THAT one's gonna happen any time soon."
What story could be so dark--so PITCH BLACK--that they couldn't do that would have involved Catwoman? The only thing that comes to mind is that scene in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns where the Joker tortured her and Batman finds her tied up and wearing a Wonder Woman outfit...

What do you think it could have been about?
Must...resist..urge to make..a ...comment about a big pussy!..
d'oh!!!
Seriously, I doubt it's about Catwoman taking over Bab's body via a microchip...
Maybe Catwoman & Bruce had a daughter...and maybe she's taken on the mantle of the Cat...
Might be interesting....specially if she has a thing for terry...or better yet, he has a thing for her, while she doesn't..

That Catwoman story would've been awesome to see. I wonder how "dark" it would've been, maybe even darker than ROTJ? I've never considered Catwoman to be a dark character so it wouldve been really interesting to see how it turned out. But too bad! I'll hold out hope for the future.

Bruce Timm said it would have been dark, pitch black dark. Knowing that just twists the knife of pain a little more, ya know? A mature Batman movie that doesn't cater to the 5 and under crowd....oh, what I wouldn't give to see that project realized!

I will admit a Catwoman DTV is something that caught me off gaurd, but there's a slight chance that Nightwing could be involved. There was supposed to be a Catwoman/Nightwing animated spin-off, so this would have been a good way to deal with it. Still...the idea of a PITCH BLACK movie, darker than ROTJ, is just...interesting...

Yeah - it pretty much does suck. I would have like to have seen what they got up their sleeves. I was surprised that the BB DTV would have dealt with Castwoman and not Nightwing directly.

If there was one reason in the world to go on an EXTREMELY high overdose of tylenol, THIS WOULD BE IT!!! Or maybe start heavy drinking. Nah, that probably woulden't be a good idea since i'm a few years underage. :D Seriously though, this is unbelievable! Think of the possibilities of that kind of movie! As soon as I read that in the interview, I wanted to reach down my throat and tear out my adams apple! Well, I suppose there is still a very slim chance, so here's hoping!
See ya!

Considering that almost no one expected what Joker would do to Tim, not to mention that he said the Catwoman DTV would be even darker than ROTJ, the mind boggles...

Actually is suspect that Nightwing may not have been involved at all. I'm saying this because Timm said nothing about Nightwing. What I'm thinking here is that maybe there were two additional DTV BB projects in the planning stages. One about Nightwing by Dini (which he did say that that they were planning a second DTV about Nightwing before Warners decided that BB was dead). And a second about Catwoman which was at some early stage of planning by Timm.
Still, the revelation by Timm that it would have been about Catwoman did come out of left field. But I guess we'll have to file this under "what could have been" along with the post Legacy season of Superman, season 4 of BB, the Batman DTV featuring the team-up between Bane and the Joker...

Perhaps they didn't plan to focus on Nightwing in the movie because they already had plans for him for the next season of Batman Beyond?
Either way, it still sucks. What gets me more than anything is they knew they had a limited time with this show, they knew they only got signed on to do fifty some odd episodes and they knew KWB's track record for not renewing these shows. Yet they piddled away worthless episodes with dating robots and Max. Not that the episode they did were bad, really (tho some of them...yeah, some were dogs) but when you're sitting on ideas like this, you gotta strike while the iron is hot. Then again, who am I to judge. I have no idea the demands KWB put on the creators of this show to tame down the series, and perhaps they felt the best way to tell some of the stories they had were to do the DTVs. Then it was too late. Either way, it sucks!

Oh....my...god!
I have been drooling for a DTV about Catwoman ever since I first heard that Selina might have gotten spinn-off from B: TAS some eight years ago! Those pictures in Batman: Animated just got my blood pumping, and now...oh the bitter jest of fate!
Still, I pretty much detested all of the stories on BB involving the old cast because they planned out tragic ends for them. Sure, Freeze was a nutso, but did he really have to lose his wife to disease, his body to the accident, his wife to her doctor (that was so stupid!), then his freedom, then his wife to death, only to finally lose a second chance? Can this guy get no break???
Out of the Past was great, except for what happened to Talia, which wasn't really fair. She was always a strong person and she didn't deserve to be victimized...
So, I guess I'm glad that Terry McGuiness didn't get the honor of meeting my two favorite characters Two-Face and Catwoman, though I feel very sorry for us that we didn't get any sort of B: TAS or TNBA DTV about them.
(Psst...hey..Timm..there's always room for a Gotham Adventures Annual or fill-in issue....:) !)

AHHHHHHH!!!! I want this dtv to be made NOW!! man, why, why, why??
PITCH DARK!! oh man, that sound so good. it would be ultimate showdown between the bat and the cat. seriously, i bet that it would be a tragic love story in the flashbacks w/ bruce and selina. maybe hes responsible for her death? then finds out later she had a daughter? something like that. it would be great, i wish they would make it.
WE MUST START A PETITION!!!
or atleast get timm to give us the gist of what they were planning, my curiosity is killing me!!! (get it, the cat reference, hehe.)
oh well, hopefully we get some good bruce/selina scenes tomorrow in THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN!!! peace.

Ok, I totally want to know some of what was being planned for both the Catwoman DTV and her spinn-off. Though one thing does bother me:
Why are you guys and gals so pumped that it was going to be "Pitch Black" in Timm's words? I understand that a Batman film that is darker than the stuff we see most of the time, which is aimed at a younger audience, is something we rarely see, but is darker synonymous with better? Sure, "Batman and Robin" and "Critters" were awful, but even though I enjoyed ROTJ, it honestly still frightens me. In animation, I know I'm not used to seeing those kinds of storylines and violence, which does give it a greater impact. All in all, I don't really want to see anything like that again. Hearing about how a pyscho tortured and mutilated a young boy? That's not entertainment to me. It's nightmare material. And I only saw the edited version!
I would love to see Catwoman and Batman in a new film, but if it involves anything more gruesome than what was shown in ROTJ, I might wait a little while before subjecting myself to it. Can't Selina and Bruce be happy? Can't they just work things out? He is the most tortured character ever, and he doesn't deserve it. Hoping to see him or her in more pain is not something I wish for. I don't mind a sad story, or one that involves death, but ...I guess cartoons have always been a safe haven for me. I never had to worry about seeing something I couldn't handle. I want another Batman film as much as all of you, and a quality Catwoman film even more, but not at the cost of my own innocence or the well-fare of the characters. Know what I mean?

Just because he said the movie had a really dark tone to it, I don't read that it necessarily means more violence or senesless things like that. I like the Batman animated series for the fact that they put some dark stuff in there in more suggestive ways, like when Robin's parents died at the circus, you just saw this shadow of what happened and it was even more scary and more dark and had a better imapact if they showed his parents falling to their death. So I think that the Catwoman DTV would have risen to a new level of the Batman animated mythos without giving into the senesless violence and what not that plagues other movies.

I gotta back up Calhoun here. Just becuase he says "PITCH BLACK" does not mean it'll be ful lof voilnce and such, but just mean sit will be much more mature. Alot of people consider PHANTASM to be a really, really, really dark movie. Obviously this DTV would have been in the same vein. All these mean sis that we would have gotten a movie that doesn't pull it's punches and gives it to us straight. If there's a bit of blood in there, fine. But just becuase there's a bit of violence doesn't mean that the film should just be classified as a violent waste. We're not gonna see Catwoman all S&Med up. What we would see is an honest, straight forward, dark tale.

I'd love to see Timm return to comics with a special edition graphic novel of the story if he feels WB will never allow the movie to be made.

Agreed! He and Dini made some awesome comics for the animated line, and I kind of feel as if they've abondonned them because they've moved on to greater things. I wish they could help Gotham Adventures out of its slump. Something tells me that DC wouldn't say "no" to a Dini and Timm fill-in issue! That, and it might give Peterson and Levins an idea of what they are supposed to be doing...

This could've been great! Why must the PTB crush the hearts of the fans? The people who put money into their company?
The WB is losing serious points here. This is unbelievable.

This just tells me we don't count. It has alwasy stuck me that the only audience WB truly cares about when it comes to animation on DVD is the 5 and under crowd, and they cater to that target audience. This just hits the point home a little harder. WB wants to get points with parents and children, not us, apparently.

I would definatly like to hear the pitch for the abandoned DTV. And since this movie has no chance being made after the shoddy treatment of both Batman Beyond and the unbelieveably bad treatment of ROTJ, it would be nice to get closure on some characters.

Hmmm... the creator of Gargoyles (Greg Weisman, I believe his name was) has filled in fans of the show of his plans for subsequent seasons, in great detal. I wonder if Timm would ever be convinced to do the same for us? Not likely, but it's a neat thought...
(Note to impressionable youngsters: Pestering him about it won't work.)
