Dub Title:N/A
Japanese Title: I Won't Die! Conclusion: Luffy vs Krieg!
Chapters:63-64
Alright, all the stupid stuff is over and now we finally get into the good stuff. Luffy and Krieg are gonna duke it out for the next three episodes and it's going to be sweet. At least I hope it will be. Chances are none of Luffy's cool lines will be intact, but hopefully that won't kill much of the moment off. Though it won't help. He also, for the first time, shows some strategy in his fighting. Hopefully they won't take that out.
Here's hoping this great fight stays clean, though I'm sure it won't.

Ah.....it was an average dub episode! Is it me, or did 4 kids add suction cups to Krieg's smaller spears ? SUCTION SPEARS! In a few more weeks we will see the destruction which is gonna be the 4 Kids dub of the Arlong arc!

I decided to give the show another chance to today and I thought it was pretty good, I look forward to seeing more.

You gotta admit even if you hate 4Kids that their edits are pretty darn good at keeping consistant and making them not look so completely out of place, and they seem to be fairly good at removing blood also unlike some editors*cough* WS *cough*
I've seen part of todays ep in the manga cause of Shonen Jump, stuck close to the manga part i've seen pretty much except for the edits.
Havn't seen all the spear stuff in the manga yet, thats prolly next issues manga hehehe.
I give it an A*yes i KNOW it butchered but its still fun, and only voice i don't care for is Sanji, and i like Zolo compared to Zoro*

I missed that but I did hear "Krieg's like a demon" from one of his crew members after he fired the poison cannon ball.

Krieg sure likes explosives, I'll give him that. Boy did he swing that bladed exploding stick a lot. But how was Luffy able to punch him when he had that spiked cape up? I thought he could be wounded by sharp things? Heck Krieg slashed at him a lot with that spear and still take much damage from anything other than the explosions. Freaky!

Freaky!Luffy does'nt have much regard for his own body. When he punchs Krieg in the orginal version theres a good amount of blood spray. So they edited the spikes that impailed Luffy into suction darts? God I hate 4kids...

Yep! They even added suction sound effects when Luffy took them off!

Funny, I didn't see any suction cups. Heck, they looked more like bullets to me.

Can anyone provide a picture (or pictures) of the suction cup edit? Please? :D

1. Heh, where does Krieg keep all those ammunition? In his pocket? :D
2. Didn't Krieg's pirates already call the gas bomb his most powerful weapon? Now, the exploding spear too?
3. As for the last several weeks, this fight is dragging. We needed not pegleg's inspirational Sanji speech! :p

The bullets were sharp-nosed when they were flying, but had suction cups when Luffy dropped them.
Damn, they cut one of the most badass scenes of the whole fight.
Well, of course. It's to be expected. I stopped cursing once I let go of any false hope. It's like expecting the BoSox to ever win the World Series............. oh wait........... :D

Missed the episode, like to see this too.
Reminds me of the slingshot Kaya held between her clevage. Ah, those were the days...
Waiting for them to pull another spring-loaded hammer gun.
As per the recomendations last week, I bit the bullet and purchased One Piece TPB #5, the end of the Kuro arc and the first two chapters of Baratie. I have to say, the pacing is much improved, but suffers from the same problem as the anime: they fight; give exposition and maybe a flashback; fight some more; give more exposition, fight some more; stop when the writers say they should stop.
However, I can kinda see why the storylines go on and on... Correct me if I'm wrong, but none of the villains in the storylines reappear later right? If so, I can kind of see why Oda would like to give them as much time as possible. If that is the case, the pacing is then semi-understandable, if not excusable.
The resolution to the Kuro arc was quite nice, however, easily the best part of the arc. There was some good, unforced character development there. Likewise with the introduction to Baratie, which feels much more natural than the rest of the arc after Krieg arrives. Also, I now "hear" the 4Kids voices when reading the mangas; strangely enough, they don't feel wrong at all.
One thing that I've noted is the sheer amount of long flashbacks used in the manga and anime. Creative writing 101: Flashbacks are a lazy way to handle exposition, and should be used only when necessary. And the flashbacks here? Unnecesary, in my opinion.
Final veredict: I'm skipping the Krieg arc and buying the intro to Arlong, to see how it's like.
As for today's episode...
Yawn, another fight, where little of consequence happens. The fighting? Lackluster. The lesson? Anvilicious. The suction cup edits were easily the best part of the episode for me.
Speaking of the darts (which by the way, Simon, were just the spikes he shot last episode with suction cups attached to the ends), I think It's the most understandable edit yet. I mean, the dude was impaled (as opposed to having the darts bounce off, like the bullets) and was (as aired) still fine. Not something you want to see the kids imitate. And really, I'm kinda glad--I have a mild needle-phobia, and seeing Luffy take them off--bleeding, no less-- is not something want to see.

For the most part, yes, however(minor spoiler):
Alvida and Buggy do return later on.

There is a filler arc later on in the anime that happens after the Davy Backfight arc where Arlong and a few other villians return.
Though it is not in the manga, and supposedly it's based on one of the One Piece Grand Battle video game storylines.

I haven't seen that, but I thought it was just the crew losing their memories and remembering past events or something like that.

Something like that. :p
Man, this episode was so badass in the original.
Originally I thought they were going for the "Hey kids! We're MATURE!" approach with lines like "Krieg's a demon!" and "It's time to DIE!!!", but then came the suction cups.

Thats one of the original scanlations, right? Did Viz get to this chapter yet? And did they censor the insane amount of blood on Luffy's hand?

Alvida and Buggy do return later on.not only:
Axe-arm morgan shows up for a giller arc, and Kuro has non-speaking cameo in ep 45. Jango ( moonwalking hypnotist) and Fullbody (whiny Marine officer who Sanji owned) return a handful of times also for comedic effect.

Kuro doesn't count, and Morgan never re-encounters the crew, so I wasn't including those. We just see Morgan escaping from the Marines.
Jango and Fullbody can be included, I guess, but they have such an insignificant role that it doesn't really matter.
The two I named are the only ones that actually come back into the story.

The Kuro reappearance wasn't in the manga anyway. So theres one less recyclable.

So there's still like two more episodes to this fight? That's kind of poor pacing. I mean, this episode felt like it could of been done in half the time and still came out fairly well. Glad to see that the hits are at least going through though. I mean sure the spears were edited to suction cups, but they were still "posionious" and you still saw thim hit each other a few times (I'm thinking of Zatch Bell where all the impact blows are edited for some reason). I also think they could find a better way to narrate Sanji realizing how much you have to fight for your dreams or being a side audience to the battle. Oh well.
Best Moments: Ghin giving Luffy his gas mask, Luffy punching Kreig in the face (I was going, it's about damn time), the ending part of the fight, the preview.
Grade: 2.5 Stars Out of 5.

Uncut OP battles are truly something to behold. So bloody, so gritty, so badass.
4kids loses everything. Poisen suction cups are unbeleivably lame.
The impact is lost man, Luffy needs to be bleeding all over the place to feel badass. Hes like Gutts almost in battle.

Yes they certainly are something else... They are so very violent for such a "friendly" looking show. And they are often incredibly insane. Oda's characters know few limits. They wont back down unless they can't even move their little pinky.
