Original Title: Piano of the Heart - A Heart-Throbbing Dance nya!

Kisshu has a new plot for attacking humans - combining Parasite Anima with...well, you'll see. Anyway, Ichigo starts her day with breakfast with her psycho parents *coughdadcough* and having to deal with slacking-off Minto and mean Shirogane at Cafe Mew Mew. While she and Retasu are sweeping outside the Cafe, however, they are approached by a lady named Mary McGuire (from San Fancisco), who speaks no Japanese. O_o It turns out Shirogane has arranged a party, and Mary-san is providing the music for the night. Kisshu drops by to put his new plan into action, and yet again Ichigo, Minto, and Retasu must save the day.

Okay, this episode is a memorable one considering it's the first big debut of Shintaro and Sakura Momomiya; Ichigo's insane father and doting mother. Not to mention the show's personal foreign guest who freaks out the main characters, a major Ichigo spazz-out, and the introduction of the new Chimera Animals. And next week Fon Purin is introduced! Yay.

I dunno why but i keep likeing this show, must be cause it reminds me of Sailor Moon.

But yeah, overall i really liked today's ep, having the spanish confuse Zoey and Bridgett was sweet.

They way they beat the monster was a little expected though.

Well the pianist went from being American (go fig) to Spanish. I'd like to know who they got to speak such fluent Spanish. (Or how the other VAs were able to do that without sounding fake) And some nice funny lines that MMU will most likely ***** about:

"Last time I did the macarena, I sent 5 people to the emergency room."

Something tells me it wasn't just Zoey's bad dancing. The macarena alone is powerful to do that.:D

"Ugh do we have to?"

Another moment where Corina chastises the catch-phrase. Those are always good in my book. Still won't make up for that "Animal Instinct" song. (Dangit I just got that song out of head.)

Otherwise, fun episode. Enjoyed the quieter moments of this episode.

I thought this episode was good....I liked seeing everyone dressed up,and Zoey's always funny....I think this is the first time I've ever seen subtitles in a dub(This episode had a Spanish-speaking pianist named Maria;it's a good thing her dialogue was subtitled,actually,since I only understood about half of what she was saying)...

I was annoyed when I heard "the animal instinct" but it was all good as soon as they played the personal themes.

Fun episode and kawaii Retasu and Ichigo at the party. Retasu should let her hair down more often.

Spanish speaking... Sean Schemmel speaking Spanish as well. That was interesting...

My comments about the episode:

-Props to 4Kids for actually keeping in the fact that the pianist spoke a different language then the ones usually used by the main characters (English in the original Japanese version; Spanish in the 4Kids dub). Of course, this makes me wonder if this will be the method used when Beck finally gets licensed.

-"Last time I did the macarena, I sent 5 people to the emergency room." Looks like one of the TMM dub writers took a page from the Steven Foster book of anime dubs. :anime:

-"Ugh do we have to?" Man, it seems like Mint isn't a fan of the "Mew Mew Style" chant (makes me wonder what 4Kids would do when it comes to Zakuro's opinion of the chant).

-Of course, the episodes is an example of hinting of a romantic pairing between Ichigo and Ryou. However, Ichigo isn't the only person that can be considered a romantic partner for Ryou, as Lettuce shows some interest in Ryou later on in the series.

Next week: the fourth member joins the Mew Mew team. Also, www.4Kids.tv launches its MMP flash game, with information on how to access it appearing next week during 4Kids TV (although I have a feeling you'll have to watch the other 4Kids TV titles to find out how to access the game).

Anyway, this week's comments:
- For some odd reason, I originally thought she was speaking French before Spanish. My foreign language knowledge is quite rusty...
- They did it again! As in a 'Shaman King' episode earlier this year (2005), the 4KidsTV logo covers up part of a scene's dubtitles. Honestly... 4Kids needs to make the logo transparent or smaller, and work with each of the individual show dubbing producers on this kind of stuff!
- Yeah, the 'Macarena' line was near-cringe worthy. Something a bit more quote-friendly... "I think I hate her." - Zoey/Ichigo, referring to Corina's/Mint's ability to feel right at home at a ball/dance.

Well, for the second straight week, I overslept and missed this week's ep. It'll suck if I miss next week. Kiki debuts! YAY! After seeing the promo that aired this morning, I like her already. She's spunky and energetic, and I like that in a person.

Media overload in today's post. Some things were made different in this episode that I thought kind of took away from the original ep, but meh. MMPU comparison. (http://mmpu.smuncensored.com/ep6.html)

Okay, first of all, in the beginning they took out Kisshu mentioning that the Parasite Animas contain condensed forms of DNA of animals from Earth. Also before that the light was saying that he "cannot forgive the species known as humans who soil this beautiful planet and think they are owner of it." It's a bit of a foreshadowing for future episodes regarding the aliens. The dub has the light go on about how Dren is doing on 'the blue planet'. Which he says almost every episode. It's Earth, sheesh.

Next the breakfast scene. Bleeeh....Zoey's dad isn't as funny as Shintaro. Dub-Shintaro sounds...somehow fake. Anyway, in the original, Shintaro was telling Ichigo to get ready to go to visit their relatives and attend a festival. Ichigo gripes about how her dad is only a normal worker despite being an Edo style sushi chef.

I'll go out on a limb and say that the English acting in the orgional wasn't very good? Er, you be the judge on that. In my opinion on ranking from best to worst it would be Mary, Aoyama, Shirogane, Akasaka.

(Considering the dub changes the foreign language from English to Spanish, there's probably going to be more of it when Zakuro/Renee is talking to the cranky English-speaking manager in episode 10.)
And here's Ichigo going hysterical (http://www.geocities.com/kidamahou/spazz.wma) over Minto calling Aoyama Ichigo's boyfriend. I think it's funnier in Japanese ^^;

In the Cafe while Maria is playing the piano, Zoey mentions that she wishes she could play like Maria does. Ichigo wonders where the piano came from in the first place ^^;

And Wesley mentions the party they're holding is for animal rights. O-o What the? So they remove environmental material from spots it's supposed to be in and add in random stuff? Guh.

The party scene itself was handled well, especially the part with Ichigo and Shirogane out on the balcony. Yay 4Kids.

And Dren is still blaaah. The cheeta Chimera Animal also was a bit better (well..that depends on your opinion O_o) in the original. The dub version just growls here and there, while its Japanese counterpart runs around yelling "Piaaaanooo!" and making wierd "youpyoupyoup" sounds. o.o;

Cue random insert song for group transformation, replacing just Ichigo's per the original episode. Oh yeah, and "animal instinct" makes me think of the Mews as snarling wildpeople tearing rabidly into meat. -_-;

Kisshu's mention of Deep Blue was cut and replaced with a hideously stupid line from Dren.

Original:

Kisshu: "Hehe. This is Deep Blue's will. Don't take it personally!"
Ichigo: "Deep Blue?"

Dub:

Dren: "This party was too stuffy anyway. Now it's a real wing-dinger!"
Zoey: "Wing-dinger?"

Moving on to Shirogane/Elliot. In the dub he jumps in front of Zoey and yells at the Predasite "Stop now! Listen to me! You're no Predasite! You're a beautiful and talented artist who's just being used! Remember who you are! Now! Turn up the music louder! Hurry!" This implies that the human-spirit Chimera Animals/Predasites are monster versions of the person whose soul they have, but in the original they're pretty much just monsters related to the person's theme/interest/whatever. Shirogane's line was "I can't believe you would use the spirit of a human who can play such a beautiful melody as a weapon! Listen to this sound of a pure spirit!" Cue piano recording.

And finally, Mary in the Japanese version did not speak to Ichigo in Ichigo's language as Maria did to Zoey.

Phew. Okay, next week it's Purin. Then two more fillers until Zakuro. Yay! Oh, and they showed a "Mews of the World" thing for Purin/Kiki during the second Winx episode. But from the regular preview after MMP, to me she sounds annoying and not as cute as Purin is. But then again, they upped her age four years.

Never imagined I’d ever see 4Kids use subtitles in a dub but then again they were BIG subtitles. Sometimes they were covered up by the 4KidsTV logo in the corner of the screen. Had to guess a few times what was underneath the logo.

the Japanese version should have gotten an actual American (whatever she was) or something to speak the English, using someone with too much of an Accent just sounds...meshy.

Zoey is cute in the dub, i thought the "I think I hate her...?" line was great.
sounded more like a question since her and Corina are sort of getting close.

all those cuts seemed to be more for time then editing for content. since FoxBox NEEDS the commerical time.

i missed Kikis promo. but i heard her on the episode ending. she sounds energetic...which is the point. look like a nutty episode.

this ep was so so with me. it definetly was funny and thumbs up on the Spanish part. fillers are just...boring a bit. i say 4.0/5

Well that was an interesting experiance. I can't remember the last time they used subtitles in a Sat.morning cartoon(if ever). A good episode, though I wish they'd make the logo smaller or transparent because it just made watching annoying.

At first I thought that Mew Mew power was going to be boring and dull. But later when I first saw it and more and more I learn to like Mew Mew is just great the outfits are so cute My favorite one is Corina's outfit because I love the color blue and also is not too short or to long is just perfect.:)
