Uuuuugh. That was weird. One minute, I was considering the political ramifications of the European Union, and the next, I was dissing the Nintendo 64.
So yeah, I can't remember much of what happened yesterday. Discuss memories and aftermath here.

I will say this.
Compared to last year, this edition of BTZ was vastly underwhelming.

At least with last year, ALL sections of the forums had name changes and people posted in all of them like crazy.
It was funnier last year.

What a day. Some priceless moments(like the Lucky Bob impersonating Matt Wilson video games thread) and pointless threads(mostly on the adult swim forum). Not to mention some cruel jokes.
Sooo.... what did I miss?

I thought it was great. Real funny stuff there... Delia was hilarious, and having a real Greg Sanders run around TZ was great too. Oh, and Lucky Bob-Matt Wilson was even better than the real Matt Wilson. Much funny.

This was a CRAZY day at Toon Zone. I haven't witnessed the other years, since I joined just last year after April 1st, but I hear the years before this were much better. Eh, oh well. It was still CRAZY.
And now that it's over, I needa change my avatar from Bleach to Bleach.

This year was good since I truthfully don't remember much from last year, I think last year I was too chicken to post stupid stuff.
Snapegurl was the funnay!!!

Sooo.... what did I miss? Eh, some Harry Potter fan with a split loyalty between Snade and Weird Al kinda stole the show, making her the first person to upstage Marvin the Paranoid Android during an April Fool's Day.
Wish I'd caught her real name.
EDIT: Full disclosure, I knew ahead of time that there would be no massive April Fools effort this year. And I missed it, frankly. Everyone did a good job, but don't let it creep up on you next year, developers!
'Nother edit: Especially the Godzilla forum.

Sooo.... what did I miss? Not much worth repeating. But you won't be seeing your accordian again for a long time. It's nothing personal, you understand. It's just that I still have a hard time believing that the name "Gwen" was picked randomly, after my profile has read: "Don't go looking for me. I've run off with Severus Snape; and we're very happy together" for several years now. :p
Oh, and Lucky Bob PWNED all of TZ. That's about it. Other than that, it was comparetively quiet.
Yeah....
I wanted to do something really strange this year. Hehe....
I personally, really dislike/hate Harry Potter.
I had a lotta help from my HP fan roommate and the internet getting the whole "DarkSnapeGurl16" character down.

WEIRD! What were the odds?
I actually put it together when I was making up the Mary Sue Fan Fiction for the whole thing. I had the screen name but I needed a character behind it so I looked through the harry potter mary sue community on Live Journal. They find sues, and laugh at them daily--- and one of the Sues a while back was a girl named Gwen and I tacked on "Quinne" because i'm a Harley Quinn fan.
I think I mentioned that "Snape was my puddin" in one post, lol.
But yeah, it was totally random and Im kinda amazed that you happen to be a snape fan.
I hope I didn't upset ya--- I kinda feel bad now.

Ahhh, Cafe's clean, I had fun here and in the real world, and I decided to keep the Avatar.
dig it.
I will say this.
Compared to last year, this edition of BTZ was vastly underwhelming.
Last year was planned about 5 months beforehand.
This year, pre-planning lasted about 3 weeks.
I liked it. Personally, as much as last years'.
Aside from name changes, there was absolutely nothing changed, yet people still behaved just like they did last year. Making wild, spam, fun topics and the rest played along. Some made specific pranks of their own, others followed what others posted. It was fun.
Which is why I don't mind if next year we don't do any changes, we still can have fun. In fact, doing little actually allows people to make "serious" discussions along with "joke" discussions.
In short, nice day. I wouldn't mind at all another one of the same next year.

I hope I didn't upset ya--- I kinda feel bad now. 1) Do not feel bad. Even when folks deliberately poke fun at me, if it's good for a laugh, I'm all for it.
2) I always go for the bad guy. Always. You'd think I'd have learned by now, but no. =\
3) No matter how much time was put into it, Duke, it was a blast to see the Bowler return. :D

No one seems to think I saved the day with my "rules" schtick...personally, I was expecting new fake articles on the main page and crazy wallpapers and the whole nine yards, and when none of that showed up, that whole parody I started--and the antics that surrounded it--made this April Fool's memorable to me. I still can't get over the fact that I ACTUALLY got Fone Bone's name changed to that. WAHA!
Not that Bob as Matt wasn't a great moment as well. :D

Here's the "banned" Email I was sent, for anyone curious.
Dear MartianInvader,
Since you leaked our new rules to the public prematurely, we have been
forced back to the drawing board. That means more brain massages, focus
groups, writing ideas, feeding them to goats, feeding the focus groups
to goats, and rat sandwiches. All because of you. So you have been
banned. Forever. Seriously.
Of course we will be monitoring your IP EXTREMELY closely over the next
24 hours to make CERTAIN you don't sign up for a new name, you
rabble-rousing irresponsible anarchist!
Now you'll have to excuse us, we're going to tell all your friends about
this so that they will know what a deviant and a Communist you are.
Also you are stupid-looking.

This year's April Fools Top 5 according to Javeman:
5.- DarkSnapeGurl16
4.- Lucky Bob's antics
3.- Hi, I'm Daisy!
2.- Bowling Terrorist
1.- Sexy girls thread at Anime Forum
Honorable Mention: Pretty much anything at Adult Swim and "Don't Forget to Bring a Towel"
The Google ads just add to the hilarity.
And I spammed much more this year (especially with new topics) than I did last year. (Medical Animation?)

my favorites from this year:
1. patrick star's incredible likeness to "the monarch"
2. the bowling terrorist
3. darksnapegurl16
4. lucky bob ripping off matt wilson
seriously, i laughed so hard this day. that's a miracle in itself, since i'm sick :(

April Fool's Day this year was lots of fun. I really enjoyed the antics of DarkSnapeGurl16, The Monarch, and the Bowling Terrorist. :anime: I was around, but didn't have much time to participate as I had an appointment first thing in the morning.
Oh, and if no one figured it out ... I was Diva Glyttr :p

I was stumped on Diva, I admit.
Falcon, I think the ones that really stand out are the characters taken that are very unlike their 'actors.' More so, that the characters taken are so extreme that they lend towards a very definate role for the actor to play.
Otherwise it's more of a chance to be all out silly. Which is highly enjoyable. Just slightly less memorable.
But be calmed young mod. Twas but your first year trying on those mod type shoes. =)

Looking through last year's April Fools shenanigans, the Toonami board is quite hilarious. For those that didn't see it, they turned it into the Jetix board and were basically making fun of the Disney block.
And it's only a year later and it's Disney/ABC's biggest block. Bet they didn't see THAT coming! ;)

Hmm, I wonder how many modems we killed with that Anime thread? LOL, boy that was a truck load of pics we crammed in there. I really enjoyed making this post. Link. (http://forums.toonzone.net/showpost.php?p=1685138&postcount=46) I just reused a picture of Chiyo-chan from an old thread. As for the other two, they came from my odd and strange wallpaper collection.
The thread I enjoyed participating in, Please Ban William C. Maune. Link. (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=137647) I was cracking up seeing Chris attempting to ban himself... Uh, question for the mods. Did he really get banned for a while? I didn't see him make a post till later in the day.

Mind, all the personas were brilliant this year. It's just that, compared to last year, we didn't see them as often. I'd almost forgotten about Falcon's, due to the fact that it was only on briefly. (Didn't make it any less funny. I bow to your awesome explosive...ness.) And I think that Marvin didn't have as many lines this year, either. Which is understandable, we all have lives. I was at work for five hours, myself, but I got to sneak a peek now and then.
Del's was without a doubt the best, however. In terms of consistancy and volume.

Marvin was relegated to a few hours for the reasons you suggest; a lot of dull work and inability to get to a PC before midnight GMT. Pity.. oh well. I enjoyed his run of future DCAU episodes...

Rats I was only three digits away from taking over Toon Zone. Anyways I enjoyed Cartman and Zake's impersonations of Waggytoon. Yes, I remember that member when I was just still lurking. Matt Wilson acted like Squidward (from Spongebob Squarepants) all day on April Fools day, but I did like all those arguements with Lucky Bob impersonating him. Matt should have acted out Ed or Billy and be crazy all day. Next year we should have all those board change names and April Fools News like they did last year.

First off I have NEVER found Lucky Bob funny before yesterday. He was the SECOND funniest person on the board and I actually respect him now. I disagree with everything he says but he WILL get a birthday thread from me in the future.
I found it was interesting that Matt Wilson couldn't understand why so many people were pranking him (including me). Considering how he often writes definative reviews of things he has never seen and bashes creaters on the boards they visit I would have to say he picked a REALLY bad time to try and go legit. Karma, nothing more. And nothing personal from me.
By the way, my South Park as PG-13 prank didn't go over so well, did it? Was that because I was a arrogant prankster? (If so I apologize but I WILL note that that was a joke too.)
If Lucky Bob was the second funniest prankster, Delia97 was the funniest by a wide margin. First off I had no idea Delia was so funny. It's too bad she always has to close threads on the GAF and the Disney boards. I WILL say those particular boards are among the least fun at Toon Zone and she should be commended for actually keeping the boards on track. I thought her DarkSnapeGurl16 was HILARIOUS and it was even funnier because people kept asking her how she could be a mod if she was a new member and that she should have been banned. I love people with no sense of humor.
Speaking of no sense of humor I have to say I am increasingly impressed with the DCAF boards. True, few posters got into the spirit of things (it was a crock that Style 92's wondeful mock thread about BTAS's cancellation actually got criticized for not being believable enough. News flash: It wasn't supposed to be) but the mods were great. I LOVED the Anchorman parodies (probably because I have never seen the movie and it was all new to me) and I thought the board was wonderful. Honestly I HAVE been *****ing too much about the DCAF boards being no fun, but they really are now. If a certain The Batman bashing poster is banned the board will be perfect again.
Edit: Never mind. I just checked the the DCAF board and there were only FOUR joke threads. And two of them had posters *****ing in them while another one was completely ignored. Me and Gwen were right. The board is NO fun.
I thought it was a great year, although it IS important to know that this year there were a LOT more irrellevant threads versus funny ones. Trey Parker and Matt Stone dying REALLY rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. (I know I was annoyed with the Micheal Moore joke. We GET it. He's fat. So his opinions are irrellevant.) I WOULD like to see Bizarro Toon Zone come back next year though. Maybe more people would be in the spirit of things. It's only one day of the year after all, and if people find it annoying they don't HAVE to post here or even read any of the threads.
Now can I be Fone Bone again?

I know it's just for one day, but when every forum is crowded by pointless and/or in-joke threads it's kind of annoying. There are displeased TZers every 4/1. The best idea is to just stick with the real threads. This year there were no obnoxious backgrounds/new titles/wallpapers/font colors to annoy the more straight laced posters around here. =)
First off I have NEVER found Lucky Bob funny before yesterday. He was the SECOND funniest person on the board and I actually respect him now. I disagree with everything he says but he WILL get a birthday thread from me in the future. Awww... Now first, Lucky Bob rox my sox. Second, even when you disagree with someone, you should always wish well for them. It's too easy to only be nice to and bless those we agree and like.
I found it was interesting that Matt Wilson couldn't understand why so many people were pranking him (including me).Interesting and hilarious in and of itself. :D
I just checked the the DCAF board and there were only FOUR joke threads. And two of them had posters *****ing in them while another one was completely ignored. Me and Gwen were right. I thought it was a great year, although it IS important to know that this year there were a LOT more irrellevant threads versus funny ones. True. It's easy to be silly (and again, ain't nothing wrong with silliness!). I'm generally impressed with the more creative 4/1 pranks/jokes.

The respect is, and always has been, mutual. I love you Lucky Bob!:anime:
Awww... Now first, Lucky Bob rox my sox. Second, even when you disagree with someone, you should always wish well for them. It's too easy to only be nice to and bless those we agree and like. I'm too sensitive sometimes. I take a lot of stuff personally, probably because I usually can't tell when someone is joking (Aspergers Syndrome). Yesterday was VERY helpful for me. Thank you Gwen and Lucky Bob!
Interesting and hilarious in and of itself. :D Was he joking? I don't think he was. He got MAD. Like I said, he picked a bad time of year to try to go legit.
Oh, it is at times. They just take things very seriously in there. Which, depending on those who visit may or may not be to their liking.I like being silly. I also like monkeys!
True. It's easy to be silly (and again, ain't nothing wrong with silliness!). I'm generally impressed with the more creative 4/1 pranks/jokes. I love you Gwen!
No matter what anyone calls you, you'll always be Fone Bone to me.
So, I guess the whole my parents naming me Matt Zimmer thing was irrellevant!:D
I can be funny, but I still have to do my job here. April Fools is just a chance to take a break from that.
I tried to be a condensed version of all the annoying people I've run into on the internet. All I needed was a text translator that made every other letter capitalized and added little swirlies and stars to the text. I think I love you too. You were so great yesterday.
So, did ANYONE find my South Park prank funny? I hope so because I had been planning it for months.

Compared to last year it was supremely lame.
It was just a bunch pointless annoying spam and a chance for people to pad their post counts.
I ended up avoiding the board the whole day because of it.

Oh, all the sites are still on the TZ server in a separate mini-forum. But we didn't feel like re-doing those styles the exact same.
I wanted my user title to say 'Banned', as an AFD joke. That,a nd I know some people want to see me banned. So the joke was that I put 'Banned' as my title, and lead people into thinking I really was booted from the site. Then I start posting WITH that title and then... yeah. It sounded better in my head. =_=;
Unfortunatley.... :(
Maybe next year.
Hey, I coulda done that whole 'dead' thing. Then again, I'm sure people would be upset if it wasn't a joke.

But I think it's only fair to warn you something big has come up. Word has it from the big Boss that the greatest cartoon of all time and space, Batman: The Animated Series, is no more.
Warners made this decision early this morning. Apparently, high quality animation and story telling are no longer the mantra here at Warners. Disposability is the key. Disposability is everything. Have you ever switched from real dinner ware to plastic silverware and cups? Then you'd know how much more convenient it is. Use once, through out. Simple eh?
Well, That's the feeling at Warners right now. In cancelling BTAS in favor of The Batman, a much more disposable product, we feel we can maximize our potential audience.
The problem with BTAS was that the work was too enduring. The meaning and substance of it could reach and touch people for generations to come. But we know kids don't want to watch old stuff, they want new stuff. Hence the problem. Whereas with The Batman, we can crank out a few seasons of it, and since it will have no lasting effect on the public conciouness, we can pretend like it never happened and make another new Batman cartoon after that. We can even recycle the scripts too.
But first, BTAS must be dealt with. This Cancellation is retroactive to 1992: Further BTAS sets are now suspended. Further, we will be sending out roving teams into the streets of america to hunt down and destroy all copies of the first 2 BTAS sets already in circulation.
After which, we will burn all back issues of Batman Adventures comics, and destroy all the action figures. Even the masters of the series and it's accompaning movie will be destroyed.
We've already got Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in custody. Now we have to get to Bruce Timm, and have him forcibly remove Batman from the premises of Justice League Unlimited. Oh, and we'll just cancel the show too. Because I never understood who all those other people are.
Anyway Style, that's our new projects for this month. Go ahead pass this along if you wish. And that reminds me: Those episodes probably exist in your fond childhood memories, right? Well, I'm gonna need you to come into my office and sit quietly. I gotta got get a melon-baller. Recommend that the rest of the board do that as well.
Thank You! :)

Let me just clarify one or two things.
First, what I did was not a slam or an ad-hom attack on Matt Wilson. Lampooning? Maybe. But for what it's worth, I still like the guy, and love his opinions even when I don't agree with them. This whole "imitating a well-known figure" thing is something that I have done for two years running. Jim Harvey was the victim last year, but I saw a greater potential for humor in imitating Matt this year. If anyone, including Mr. Wilson, thought that I was disparaging him, it was purely unintentional, and all in good fun. In fact, I didn't even think I did that good a job, but I'm glad others thought so. If you didn't, eh, them's the tastes.
Second, I love me too, Fone. But let's not get too chummy.

I enjoyed it this year much more than last year's
I dom't enjoy the concept of pranking people, I see it as mean and ill-spirited. I've never been "punk'd" but I've never been to keen on the concept either. Saying that, the whole changing of the forum style just seems like such a ...wasted time to me. (plus, the way I understand it, the best part of the prank is to witness the payoff, on the internet, this elemet is completely removed, thus making the effort useless)
Getting 90% banned for complaining about it didn't help my mood either >_> (yeah, pranking the person complaining about not liking pranks is a GREAT way to help the situation  )
But THIS year. This year was fun. I can take silliness. Sure you have the occasional idiots trying to lie to people with fake "news" (no offence Fone Bone, and others, but it's not clever, it's not funny, and it doens't really trick people) but I enjoyed the assumed personas, stolen avatars, and the total insanity that broke free. Plus I was able to break ACTUAL NEWS on april fools day, so I felt kinda vindicated there, and loosened up :D .

By the way, there WERE a bunch of people who bought it but I HAVE had my fill of it. I was only planning to do it this once and I got my fill and what I was looking for. This is going to be my ONLY fake news prank on Toon Zone.
Second, I love me too, Fone. But let's not get too chummy. Sorry, I love EVERYBODY I like so you're just going to have to deal with it.
.
Oh, I agree. That's what I found so fun But WHY did he get so mad? I was only kidding around. I felt kind of bad but then I saw how mad he got at Lucky Bob and I realized that he has no sense of humor. He can dish it out but he can't take it. That's too bad. I usually like reading Matt Wilson's reviews because they are very insightful but now I will always have this in the back of my mind.
What about silly monkeys? I love silly monkeys! Have you ever seen Joey and Davey Monkey on Sesame Street? They always say "BaNAnas!"
It's just a matter of getting used to identifying people with certain things. If you were to ever change your avatar, it would wierd me out. It's like when a friend all of a sudden drastically changes their hair or clothing styles. I might change my username to Matt Zimmer someday but I can't imagine changing my avater. If I did it would be to another cute character like Uncle Scrooge or Elmo. Those are the kind of characters I like.
Which one of you guys wrote it, or was it a collective effort?
That would be me. Thanks for the "new rules" by the way. They were hilarious.
This (http://forums.toonzone.net/showpost.php?p=1685238&postcount=30) was also me. :)

There are displeased TZers every 4/1. The best idea is to just stick with the real threads. This year there were no obnoxious backgrounds/new titles/wallpapers/font colors to annoy the more straight laced posters around here. =)Yeah, the awful wallpapers (especially the AS forum) last year was worse than anything this year, but that's not even my real complaint. I know message boards are clique-y by nature, but I'd never seen it that bad at TZ. The fact that, more or less, only the mods and their buddies got to participate is kind of frustrating. I wouldn't have wanted to be in on it (yeah, yeah. Sour grapes. I know ;)), but that type of exclusion, even when I have no interest in the activity, grates on my nerves for some reaon.

What kind of exclusion are you talking about? Once a year the staff likes to cut loose and dress up. What's the big deal? Plus, lots of users did something on April Fool's Day even if they couldn't change their names, and lots more users posted and had fun without trying to take on a new identity. You could've participated if you'd wanted to and everyone would have included you. Your loss. Maybe next year, eh?

Also, I'm sure FB means love in male-bonding Snake-hugging-Otacon kind of way instead of say Raiden hugging... well anyone to use a geeky Metal Gear allusion.

We can't make name changes for everyone who wants one, we just can't. It's a lot of work to change the mods' names alone, and by the time we're done changing the identity to everyone on TZ, April Fools day might be over.

We do everything we possibly can to make everyone feel included (even the rules have that as a goal). There are forums out there that eat n00bs alive. We're not one of them. I'm willing to talk to anyone if they've got something to say that interests me, it doesn't matter who.
That said, I'll reiterate that I was annoyed that the mods and their selected choices got preferrential treatment over say posters who have been here longer or are more active.
Er, I was the mod who gave out the "preferential treatment," but it wasn't because I like those people any more than anyone else, it was because they set themselves up for it and I wanted to play a joke on them. Seriously, I don't even know Fone Bone, Martianinvader and Toonmaster that well. I don't post on the same forums they do. No offense to them, but if I'd wanted to dole out "preferential treatment," there would be a lot of other users I know better higher up on the list. But they gave me an opportunity to reach out and tweak them a little bit and I think we're a bit friendlier as a result.
Last time I checked a "clique" was not definied as "a group of people who don't know each other very well but want to be better friends." If you'd posted in the Toon Zone Rules thread about how you thought the name changes were stupid, I probably would've changed yours too. Besides, you were already playing a character anyway, it would've been no fun to change your name.

The mods here have a standard to live up to (most of them make an attempt to, at any rate). For them to have a day and be complete goofs is a nice respite for them. Even Javeman, who isn't technically a mod, but one who does do behind the scenes work... it's a nice treat for all of them. =)
Secondly about who participated and why and if that equals cliques.
I have to be honest, I have only once before interacted with Delia, and I thought it a blast to have her let loose around here! Same with a couple other folks who generally are more reserved and frequent the boards less often. It was great to see them and get to know them, even if only a little better.
For me, that breaks down the barriers of cliques, rather than cement them or exclude those outside of them.

While I hear what you're saying, I just don't agree with it.
Bingo.
I needed a day off to be silly. I'm a college student in a 3d Animation prog and school runs me into the ground.
24 hours to do something totally opposite of what I usually do is a nice break.

My internet was dodgy and I got pretty busy so I didn't get a chance to respond to this mini-can of worms I opened. So forgive me for kicking this thread up but I'd like to respond a bit.
When I said cliques I wasn't specifically referring to April Fool's day, but to certain groups of posters in Toonzone in general. Of course they're different than real cliques (how well can you know anyone soley over a message board) but they still consist of posters who seem to respond to certain specific people while others are ignored or marginalized. Maybe not through intent but thats how it ends up. Again, I'm not talking about this April Fool's day specifically and especially as I was gone for most of it, but I think it had a tendency to exacerbate the existing order.
If anything I've personally found the forums who do eat the n00bs more welcoming because if you just ignore and brazen it out then you become accepted.
Also (and let me shoot myself in the foot here) I oppose the mods generally as much as I can without going against the TOS if nothing else than out of principle. So this is also probably a partial reflection of that.
Dirtbag, I honestly don't care if I'm ignored or not or in a clique or not but I saw a chance to try to make Toonzone a better place and I'm going to take it.

Then why do you hang around here so much?

You coulda fooled me. You seem like a model poster. Also, it's hard to oppose "the mods." After all, there are upwards of 70 "the mods" and we disagree with each other so much (often on totally different sides of a given issue) that there are very few situations in which you can disagree with all of us at the same time. :p
