Sandman the Villain in Spider-Man3?

Harry over at AICN (http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=19747) is reporting who IS the villain for Spider-Man (http://www.superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=2781#) 3.

Hey folks, Harry here... Multiple spies at Sony have confirmed that Thomas Hayden Church will indeed be playing SANDMAN. There's a ton of Sandman conceptual art all over the Spidey-offices!

As with any rumor take this with a grain of salt until we hear an official announce from SONY.

I'm not going to buy it. Spider-Man has three MAJOR villains - Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom. I can't see movie three going with Sandman.

you know, at least Dr Octopus was kinda cool before the movie made him awesome, but Sandman........I'm not buying it just yet.

The last movie will probably focus around Harry's decent into madness, making him the main villain. As for Sandman... can you really see Thomas Haden Church as this guy?

Seriously though... that just doesn't make any sense to me. He would be better off playing either the Hobgoblin or Misterio.

This is AICN. I highly doubt this is true. We've heard reports that Venom and Man Wolf are in the show. I think those are more likely to be truthful.

If Sandman were to be used, he'd need a major revamp, as he has no connection to Peter, which all of the movies villains are supposed to have.

I still think we'll see Venom, personally.

Obscure? Not a major villain??? What are you talking about? Sandman is one of the biggest names in Spidey's rogues gallery. Plus he should look awesome in CG.

Sounds like a great call to me.

It might just be a short cameo at the begining of the movie.

Sandman is that not far off from being the main villain. Raimi and Maguire have both mentioned more than once in interviews that they'd love to take on Sandman in future films. This is also a way to stray away from a "scientist involved in a tragic accident" origin that the past 2 villains have had.

Harry will no doubt be the next GG sometime in this franchise, so I'm not expecting Venom at all until the main villains are out of the way. Plus, his origin is so complex that Brock at least needs to be introduced beforehand, if you wanna avoid a drawn out origin story.
