I'm talking about stuff like "Batman Adventures: Rogues Gallery" and "Shadows and Masks" or the Superman Adventures digests. My question is simply this: Are they in color or black & white? Is the text still just as readable at digest-size as it was in the initial full comic release? I'm thinking of nabbing a few of these, but I want to know if I'm getting my money's worth.

I have Batman:Rogues Gallery and Shadows and Masks and both of them are in color and they are pretty easy to read because the print is usually in all bold so it stands out.

Even if they were in black & white, they'd still be worth the money because the stories are excellent. If Batman Adventures had continued, it could have been the greatest Batman comic book ever.
Yea, they had great stories and I would've love to see them tie up the loose strings that had been left open after it was cancelled because there's a lot of them and they would've made more great stories.

Just my two cents I have the Superman Animated Series mini-comic books, they are in color and a quiet enjoyable read, if you like the animated series.

I have the two Justice League digests and the second Batman Adventures digest, and the art work and lettering holds up beautifully. As someone who missed out on a few issues along the way, this is a great way to play catch-up.
Have a good day then.

I've got:
BA: Rogues Gallery
BA: Shadows and Masks
SA: The Never Ending Battle
SA: Up, Up and Away
JLA: The Magnificent Seven
JLA: Friends and Foes
I'm sure there's gonna be a JLU digest coming out soon. And a Teen Titans/ The Batman digest, as well.

They're similar to trade paperback reprints, only printed in a smaller booklet size with multiple previous comic stories reprinted---and sold at a reasonably affordable price.
Archie comics has been doing this for decades (and probalby why their comics still sell, thanks to selling their comics at newsstands). DC used to do this with their regular (non-Animated) comics as well back in the 70's and 80's (with a series called "Blue Ribbon Digest")...
